Also I have a hard time believing that CCP is even still doing the dev work. Takes 6 months to release a captains closet.....takes 1 month to do a large visual upgrade on ships and asteroid belts and paints 4 dreads and adds a T3 destroyer and adds a Tug Capital and new modules and WASD control and 2 new hull designs and an interface re-work and more?

You do realize that the '1 month; was not actually a month And if the art for something is done in a month, they are not sitting on it, twiddling there thumbs waiting for the next expansion to hit so they can work on new projects. Once they are done, they can perp it to ship and move on to another project, when that's done it ships, etc. does;t matter if it takes 1 week or a year. Why people still don;t realize this is beyond me.

The new system suits better to Agile development, but also haves its downfalls. So far, we've seen what creative and ingenuous developers can do when they get it right, but shall they take a single wrong turn and the honeymoon will be over.
I am specially curious about winter and the impact it used to have (apparently) in the quality of summer expansions. But also have the impression that CCP's devs are in 110% mode. Would love to see a Glassdoor from someone who left the company this month or next one...

Nothing, because a lot of great expansions and the greatest to date was released in the summer. Apocaryto was made in the winter and most eve players think it was the best. So you have no idea what you are talking about. Also, if they make a mistake, they can fix it faster, which is what a lot of old vets want, add stuff, if its broken, fix it, don;t leave it to fester.

You don;t realize how business works do you? CCP MUST expand there products, this is why they tried WoD and made Dust, and why they are making valk and starting on legion. If ccp just has eve, and lets say SC or ED drains people from it, then CCP and EVE die. That is highly unlikely to happen, but because it MAY happen, ccp has to have a second or even third product that makes them money. Tossing all there stuff into eve is stupid.

To be honest at first I was extremely sceptical of CCP Seagul. The way scanning was butchered into the non complexity ground, the overlay, those tip tools, and then the visions she had...
Visions ar nice but I can't play them, so I let my accounts lapse (also because I got a bit bored), but I kept in touch with the website and forums. And slowly I noticed that things where coming together, like little pieces of a big never ending puzzle.
I also realized that having 'was responsible for running an 12 year old MMO into the ground' on your r+¬sum+¬, isn't something most people strive for.
So yeah, I'm more confident in the future of EVE then I was 6 month's ago.
Hope they can keep up the pace.

Read johnathan livingstone seagull, and see if you think the same.
She is also becoming a legend.
Totally impressed. Not only is she doing a great job, she is revitalising the energy of the entire corp. And encouraging and supporting the creative talents of the team, to do the best they are capable of, and then a little more, is icing on the cake.
If people think your definition is a valid one, well she has taken it and given it a whole new meaning.
Thanks, Seagull.

I was happy to see her promoted, and she has exceeded my expectations since then.
I not only feel that EVE is in very good hands now, with a clearly defined course, high morale, and an increasing ability to design and ship good stuff; I have a much better feeling about any of their other projects. Poking my head into the DUST514 forums, I see that the last release there was significant, that it got a very warm welcome from the player base. That gives me hope that Legion and Valkyrie will be good things.
Long may she reign.

I vote that CCP Seagull's name should be changed to CCP FrigateBird
Reason: a Frigate Bird is pretty much a seagull, but WAY more badass.

I've read Jonathan Livingston Seagull (by Richard Bach) as well, even if a was a bit youngish at the time.
The term 'Seagull Manager' is a bit later in date (use google if you're too young or otherwise generally ignorant).
CCP's Seagull appear to be a different breed, and all reports state that it's a manager to beg for.
But there's dark secrets simmering in the nastiest parts of humankind ...
There's even a rumour that CCP Seagull is a 'furry', or LARP:er or just outright member of a group of people who dress up as something else (like a tree, an elf, a heroic dwarf (something I absolutely haven't done, but I did keep my axe)) to frolic in the woods ...
It might be that EvE-Devs are in for interesting times ...
CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

Well, of course, there is so much buzzword bingo in corporations these days, that I imagine for some, having these points at the head of one's list of important things is more critical than the Job they do. Most intelligent people Ignore such crap as much as possible.
But if your life involves working for a company where they test for this skill, at interview, then more power to you!
However making unsubstantiated rumors about CCP employees personal lives is something that is ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN by the terms of this forum (and civilized society) I suggest you modify your post before ISD take a dim view of your characters posting privileges. (or continuing subscription)
But it will be interesting how that works out for you?
Ps I have not reported at this point but very sorely tempted, if you attempt to RUBBISH employees reputations with libel again, I will not hesitate to. Of course Others may have already, do you feel lucky?

That argument to be made for anyone, it is encouraging that her beliefs, from her presentations, focus less on the us and me, and more on the wider picture.
She is enabling her staff to be creative, and encouraging the testing of assumptions. By doing so she is making herself less of the solution and more of the means of letting everyone be the solution.
She is creating a culture, that will reinforce itself. And does not need her to always be at the head, pushing and pulling, and that is inspirational leadership.
This is pretty damn amazing.

She is a LARPer, and you should set aside your silly preconceptions about LARPers and watch that presentation all the way through, because it shows you some of what she brings to the table at CCP, and why she's such a good fit.

Nah, no need to paint as unattractive to a competitor to keep her, someone who is clearly as smart as she is, the best way to keep her is to appreciate her, value her, and let her know. CCP will hopefully do the same.

I think they are doing a good job on most aspects of this game. Graphics and new ships really bring out the eye candy and fun. My BIGGEST concern though that I starting to see is that they might be making some aspects of the game too easy. Getting rid of the spew mechanic, removal of the med clones, etc. I started this game because of the level of the challenge and the loss you go through when you screw up.
Just remember, that World of Warcraft USE TO BE A CHALLENGE back in its hey day but now they watered it down so damn bad for the casual player because they cried so much. I just hope that this game does not follow the same path. |

I heard WoW would love to have you back. (go back)

...accelerating the death of EvE.
6 releases a year...of the same schlock that we got in 2 before. New ship skins but no new careers. Variations of old themes may be pabulum to the masses but it sure as hell isn't attracting new subs.
When was the last major news release about EvE? The ones that have happened during her tenure were well on their way to happening before she was handed the keys. Edgy news stories are what attracted people to EvE. CCP relies on them as they do next to zero advertising.
And ridding EvE of the 24 hour skill queue? Talk about giving people less of a reason to log on. At least there used to be a chance that someone would stay on after updating their training. Now there are systems that have more stations than population.
The job of an executive is to keep the business in business. Based on that criteria CCP Seagull is failing. Will you still sing her praises when they are shutting down the servers?

My BIGGEST concern though that I starting to see is that they might be making some aspects of the game too easy. Getting rid of the spew mechanic, removal of the med clones, etc. I started this game because of the level of the challenge and the loss you go through when you screw up.
Just remember, that World of Warcraft USE TO BE A CHALLENGE back in its hey day but now they watered it down so damn bad for the casual player because they cried so much. I just hope that this game does not follow the same path. Watered it down and went to 10 million subs. Sorry your clique game got popular. I am sure Blizzard regrets it too.

In terms of things players have asked for and are cool, I'd guess a Star Wars warp sequence is somewhere on the docket. here's a good example of exactly what players had in mind.
Don't like my comment? Oh well..... not here for your popularity. |

I like what our feathered friend is bringing to the game.
CCP seem energised at the moment and that makes me want to p(l)ay.
It must be kinda exhausting though - I wonder if they can keep it up, rattling out the awesomeness. Knowing this community it will only take about a month before everyone is saying how ****** things are.
I think Seagull is doing an awesome job btw. Keep on!
Aaaaaaand relax.

If that's the case, I better take my anti-bitter vet meds and go run around provi block for a bit to vent my frustrations. |
