Greetings! I am currently making P2 in a 0.1 system about 4 jumps from my high sec base. Low sec area has become a bit more dangerous as of late with multi-ship gate camps so I am looking to minimize my possible ship loss and still be able to get my P2 back to high sec. I am currently using a Bustard to do my PI transportation but I am going to only use it for high sec transportation. So I am moving to the much less costly Tayra for my low sec operations.
I am trying to come up with a fitting for the Tayra that maximizes cargo space while giving me a reasonable chance of making it through a gate camp. I know there is no perfect setup that is 100% full proof, but if I lose a Tayra, its MUCH easier on the pocketbook than losing a Bustard.
So I was thinking a couple warp stabilizers IIs in the low slots and maybe 2 expanded cargo IIs in the other two low spots. Med spots will mainly go towards shield tanking and maybe doing some additional cargo expanders for the rigs. Looking for some advice on how to fit my Tayra for what I am trying to do. Thanks! |

How about the actual pi hauler, then you could move more stuff and have more stabs and whatnot, ofc scout the path first. Or do it like i used to do, gather the stuff at local station and hide redfrog to jump it to market monthtly or so.

An unfit epithal is a better for PI than any fit a tayra can manage. |

Appreciate the feedback from both of you. I have to admit, I didn't know there was a ship with a hold for PI commodities until now. Still learning the newer stuff after being away from Eve for awhile. So I'll look to get one of those ships fitted up and give it a shot. Looks to be almost as good as a Bustard cargo/defense wise but WAY cheaper. Just what I was looking for! |

Two questions:
1. If you can already fly a Bustard, why not use a Crane? They excel at bypassing threats in losec.
The trick to bypassing gate camps is to not make yourself a target. Fitting warp core stabs and assuming that's enough will get you killed the moment they bring N+1 points, or a scripted HIC. But cloaking and getting into warp before they even get a chance to lock you is highly effective, even if your cargo is more limited.
2. Why do you need that much cargo space to haul PI goods? Using advanced processors to manufacture higher tier products compresses your goods considerably.
One of my characters runs 4 PI planets in losec, empties them every 2-3 days, hauls everything in a Nereus, and makes ~10mil ISK per haul. This setup isn't optimized and my PI character doesn't have maxed PI skills, but it's still good "passive" income.

Crane was a possibility too, but also an expensive one. I wanted to go more of the disposable ship route. Might still pick up a Crane for those extra tricky hauls. I need the cargo space because I haul P1 to my P2 factory planet. The P2 is on the logistical route back to my home base in high sec. In other words, its on the way home. I know some of you wont like this methodology, but I also believe not to have ones eggs all in one basket.
I'm going to give the Epithal a shot and see how it goes. |

I'm going to give the Epithal a shot and see how it goes. The "factory planet" method is tried and tested, just not how I chose to do losec PI. With that setup, needing the extra capacity makes sense and the Epithal is likely your best bet for a cheap, high volume hauler. I'd still fit for agility/warp speed instead of warp core strength and tank, but a good scout is a better option than either.
One other thing to be wary of is POCO camps. You will be most vulnerable not at a gate, but when you're at a POCO with no immediate escape and, most likely, distracted with PI instead of watching your overview.
