Well, here's the short of it:
Are there other crew on our ships? I know the description of pod-pilots says that we don't need a full crew compliment, but are there any other crew on our battleships and cruisers, etc? Or just us pod-pilots?
Thanks. |

I believe it's been established that ships do have crews. Kinda hard to put out a fire in the engine room when you're in a pod.

This question has been asked 75465784393 times and yes there are crews. I believe there are some chronicles that tell of this, Jovian Wet Grave, I think. The Jovians can dimish the number of personal on a ship due to the development of pod-pilots.
Personally I think it'd be insane to have a Raven with only a captain. As said by someone else, Someone has to get down there on deck 5 and fix that leaky pipe.
I believe only frigates have 1-3 ppl including pod-pilot. If I'm not mistaken. I really need a signature. |

aye been debated many a time, but these things do have bridges and*****pits on the models and yes, certaintly the old website. IIRC frigates are just you, anything bigger has a crew, but remember pods are just brought in for gameplay sake but have been incorporated into the story now hehe.

Apparently they do, but that doesn't make sense with the sec loss for killing a BS compared to podding the pilot. Mass murder (the ship) is a small loss, one murder (the pod) is a big one.

Edited by: sHERU on 29/08/2006 21:57:57 If memory serves me right, for example... the Vexor has about a 200 man crew. To bad these details are left out on the new website.
Keeps me reminding of some of the dev's calling WoW a monster genocide game, imagine all those poor crew members on BS's in 10/10 complexes, actualy EVE is one of the worst genocide MMO games out there
(gues thats the reason to removed that bit of information from the website)

Still I would want my nose put into one of those threads where dev's would say that "yes, ships DO have crews". Because this issue has been discussed "75465784393 times", it's quite hard to find something. Been arguing over this for quite some time on another forum- me being "sure" that there are crews and others are "sure" that there aren't any. We're all noobs and can't find any material regarding this issue to prove our points.
Only thing I found was in EVE Chronicles - "Hands of a killer", where was stated that when Apocalypse blew up, there were 6314 casualties. My foes stated that these were "chronicles" and they described pre-pod events.
*sigh*
I know it's not a problem gameplay-wise but If anyone can help out poor ol' noob with this, I would be grateful :D warning: not "here's lots of isk" grateful

Your foes were wrong. The "captain" in Hands of a killer was the pod pilot himself. The whole point of the chronicle was to show that YES, there are crews in the larger ships still but that they considered to be little more than tools.
The pod technology grants the pilot immortality of a sort and makes it possible for ships to function with far fewer crew but everything above a frigate still requires some people, if only to carry out very basic maintenance.
As for the ships, as far as Eve's history goes these ships have been in service long before pod technology became the norm and so things such as the bridge and windows are mostly relics of an old design adpated for the new pod technology.

Small addition to Wild Rho's post; Capsules remove the need for a bridge crew, ships still have maintenance crews to keep the ship running though. -----

OK, interesting posts.
No dev answer though, so its merely conjecture so far.
As for everyone who said "ships need maintenance crews" - what about automated maintenance? I still think we need a clearer answer on our pod-piloted ships from thoe in the know.
And to he guy who said "search the forums first" - I DID, thats why I'm asking a DEV to answer. |

I like to roleplay that I have a ship of the old style with a bridge and a very large crew compliment, but with camera drones allowing my crew to know the area well enough or my navigation officer in a pod doing the piloting... I'm the captain! not a pilot!

That chronicle clearly states the person is signing up to a pod-captained ship aswell.
