Hello everyone,
I saw the 14 day trial and decided to check out the game. After about a week I have realized that there is such a huge amount of content here that I'll never get a great understanding in this time. So to help me in my decision I figured I'd ask.
SO; What are some of the aspects that you feel make Eve great? What keeps you thinking about Eve when you should be working / at school?

What appeals to me about EVE is that you can do anything you want. PVE combat, PVP, industry, trading, transportation. Anything. Even if you change your mind about what you want to do, you don't need to make a new character, just pick up some new skill books and you're set.
There's tonnes of exploring to do, too. One day, I plan to visit every single system in the galaxy, taking a picture of each.
I quit Everquest after a week, but I see myself being here for quit a while.

The open endess (is that even a word?) of the whole thing. For a lot of people this may be overwhelming, but you can truely do anything you want in the game, as long as you dont exploit the code. Devs did a great job in letting us do anything we can think of.
Best part is, a player only a month old "could" take down a player who is 3 years older. That is what makes this game awesome. No matter how many skill points you have, you can still get blewed up by a noob. So everyone is a threat.
Acerbus Vindictum may be able to use you.

I enjoy how in-depth the game is. How I'm able to persue any venture regardless of my initial character creation goals. I'm a fighter, but I can also redirect skill training and time to becoming an industrialists or whatnot.
I also enjoy the more tangible risk vs. reward aspects well ingrained into all aspects of EVE, regardless of which path you take risk vs. reward is as risky and rewarding.
In short... EVE is the most surreal or realistic virtual reality. And this attracts me the most. Also, it looks good, also it has good game play... it's just simply awesome.

It is not everybody idea of fun but if you want complete freedoom, it doesn't get better than this.

Downtimes, if you are quick, you can feel what I mean, there's another one extended, unrefunded downtime on 31. August !
If it wasn't that, eve would be the best online game I ever played, so it's just one of my top 5 (4-5th acutally)

Hey everyone, thanks for reading and posting.
Let me ask another question. The first one was posted out of a bit of frustration but I wanted to keep a positive outlook. In the 7 days I've spent playing I have had a blast. I spent all day Sunday outfitting a new frigate and loved it. Here's my problem; now that I have this great little newb ship none of the missions I get are any challenge.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for a battleship or big reward any time in the near future. What I am looking for is something more challenging to shoot at in the meantime than drones (which were fun when I had a really weak ship).
I have read the player guide to missions and I'm training social and connections to improve standing and hopefully get to the next level of missions but this process looks like a very dull grind.
Perhaps the community give me some help :). Where does a starting character generally go from here? I can see the combat missions in this could be fantastic, especially if they're as in depth as the market, crafting, and corporations!
Thanks again for reading, any advice is welcome.

One of the level 1 missions is really challenging. Otherwise, you could try complexes (set the map to DED Deadspace report, look at the 1/10 ones) or the pirates that are to be found in the asteroid belts of most systems.

The missions aren't nearly as deep, unfortunately. But that makes sense considering they're NPC-oriented rather than player-driven. Still, I think they're pretty fun to do a few times, especially in weaker ships than is usually recommended.
If you like the idea of mission running and really don't qualify for any L2 agents yet, try belt ratting or doing 1/10 complexes. But it really doesn't take too much effort to get the lower quality L2s if you're concentrating your efforts on one corp.
If you're feeling adventurous, try LowSec. For me that made a huge difference in keeping mission running fun.
And you can always try mining, industry, marketeering, pirating... * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I think what I like most is the indepth equipment and combat model. How a small frigate does have certain advantages over a titan. And also the small details such as the nonlinear cap and shield recharge, which feels so much more realistic than a fixed linear one.

I picked up some homeless people and janitors last night, but the missions are challenging at the beginning. If you are doing level 1 missions in a newb frigate and are not challenged... then you are on the right track.
I have been taking on Level II missions in my cruiser and get my shields blown off in 3 hits heh. Too bad for them I use Gallante craft :P
Acerbus Vindictum may be able to use you.

I love the fact I can go up in skills and I don't have to be logged in! Working 40+ hours a week, this is perfect for me.
I also like the community. For the most part everyone has been really helpful and great about answering the questions I have had.

Combat, big time. Every scenario is different, its very difficult to control every aspect of the fight, and it actually takes brains, not just "hey, its a T2 ship vs. a T1 one, I win".
I find the community mature, the single shard makes a lot of the 0.0 regions worth fighting for as its limited territory with a growing number of people, and the strongest and smartest (i.e., non-noobish) players generally survive, limiting the number of unintelligent smacktalkers we have to deal with...somewhat.
As for keeping entertained as time goes on, remember that missions aren't the only things out there. Mining, manufacturing, combat in all its forms (NPC and PC). Go explore, fly within your means, and see the stars.
Whorum Skills ftw!

The Level 1 missions are very easy. Level 2 missions are a little more action packed but still rather easy. But, they do get rather interesting. I've helped people do Level 3 and Level 4 missions. Unfortunately, it can take a while to get there. If you want to get there fast, ask questions in the help channels or mission related help channels on increasing your standings. The higher your standings, the better the missions rewards get and you have the opportunity of gaining access to a higher mission level agent.

I have been enjoying pretty much everything about this game I can think of.
I especially like that its open ended though and that I can choose to do whatever I feel like even if it could possibly be shady.
I like that fact that players are, within reason, given free reign over the universe they are thrusted into to.
What I DON"T like is the busted tutorial mission at the end of the tutorial. That extra standing would have helped alot. ___ {o,o} |)__) -"-"- O RLY? |

What I like best is that this is an adult game. No holding hands and overly protecting your players. If the game mechanics allow you to do something it goes, simple as that. Secondly I really do like all the choices you can make for your gamestyle. Will you carebear around in safe space of jump right into the action in unsafe, trade or mine or fly mission. Even when specialising with the skills you get to choose. All this diversity is making Eve a game in wich you can choose to go another path if one path gets you bored and in wich you get to meet up with tons of people doing all kinds of different things in different ways.

I've been playing Eve for about a week, and it's imense
I just can't get over the sheer scale of everything, and how many players are in the game
It's so open too, you can do anything, funds and Concord providing that is
Also, the graphics are very good too, especially come of the nebula effects.
I can see me staying for a while
