Hi Guys,
Just a quick question, this is the first time I've bought a CCG and was just wondering if anyone could recommend the best storage sleeves/deck protectors for my cards. A link to a good UK online retailer would also be handy since I can't seem to find anyone who sells the stuff here in Ireland.
Thanks for your help.

I usually use Ultra-Pro deck protectors. In America, they are the most common, and can be picked up at almost any Target or Wal-Mart.
Ultra-Pro Satin protectors are the best in my opinion, due to the fact that they are the easiest to shuffle (almost like they aren't even on the card.
I don't have any UK links though. I usually use www.dacw.com
They usually have good deals. ----------------------------------------- Will Work for a Cool Sig!

Ultra pro is indeed the best suited. Various other companies create them but in general they are of a less good quality and a little less costly. Cards are equally proteced but shuffling is alot harder and overall hadnling is less comfortable.
But if you like CCG you will invest a lot of money in it so paying a little extra doesnot matter that much
You can find the sleeves in most if not any shop where they sell Magic the Gatherign cards

I actually have come to greatly prefer the Dragon Shield line of card protectors (http://www.trollandtoad.com/p113526.html) or the Neo Sleves (a small selection here http://www.coolstuffinc.com/main_supplies.php?viewType=Card%20Sleeves&info1=Card%20Sleeves) which have prettier art.
I don't like the Ultra-Pro holo-stamp obscuring the corner of my cards. ;) -------------------------- Just here for the CCG. :) |

Hmm...
I might have to try out the Neo Sleeves. I got a pack of 50 with a nifty skull on them in a Yu-Gi-Oh package (its a guilty pleasure at age 24). But the funny thing was they were Magic-sized, not the little Yugi sized.
I'll give them a shot.

Whatever protectors you use, remember that different brands can be slightly different sized. So mixing them in the same deck can make the cards hard to shuffle. It's best to stick to one brand, and of course use a couple of different colors to avoid mixing up cards with everyone else :)

My sister's boyfriend uses the snap-close cases for his magic card deck.
It's 60 cards and liek 8 inches tall, and most of the cards aren't that good except nightmare and lord of the pit.
Sorry you can't afford a dev so you get me instead ^^ - Xorus |

You can always 'over-do' it of course...
Weird people.
And since when are Nightmare and Lord of the Pit good cards? They weren't back when I played...

OMG! So much has changed since you played then, with cards like Eon Hub and Blanket of Night. Playing Lord of the Pit and Nightmares have suddenly come back into vogue! Good stuff, man!
But to the topic presented here. Might I suggest, you also buy a pack of plain clear plastic protectors for your station since you have to flip it and since your regions don't start in your market place, you might as well use some of those clear plastics for them as well and use your niffty new expensive protectors just for your deck. Just a suggestion.

FYI.... Rulebook suggests a minimum deck size is 52 cards (not including starbase or regions). A lot of card sleeves come 50 to a pack. Most annoying... My friend reminds me that Hotdogs come 10 to a pack while buns come 8 to a pack. If any devs are listening/paying attention. A 50 card minimum maybe. That way I can buy 2 packs of different colors, and leftovers for starbases and regions. FYI #2.... Sleeves with images on the back, typical of Dragon Shield, tend to NOT be legal for tournament play as it is easy to "mark" those cards.
I know they haven't released tournament rules yet. But it's something to consider before you buy a bunch of cool sleeves and then not get to play them.

I've been playing competitive CCGs for about 10 years in the US & Canada, and never encountered this rule, though admittedly I've stuck mostly to a couple specific games. Is this a Magic:TG thing?

Dude, I only mentioned it as an FYI. So that players don't plunk down $15 for sleeves and then not be able to play em. If CCP decides they're ok with then fine. I know AEG had that rule for it's games ( I haven't played an AEG game in a while so that may have changed). Others have told me that other games have such rules. Some games allow holographic fronts on their sleeves. If you've ever played against someone using those sleeves, it can give you a headache trying to read their cards AND the holo fronts only affect your opponant. the guy playing the cards is unaffected. With most games they're illegal (as it certainly hinders your ability to read the card). Since the player themselves are unaffected the only conceivable purpose for those type of sleeves IS to mess with your opponant.

They were legal in Worlds and Kotei's from 1997-2002 (Gold Edition, when I stopped playing). As a result I know exactly what you mean about those annoying mirror-shield sleeves. I don't mind some foily effects, but the holo-mirrorball-backs all need to be slagged.

Seriously, Dude, no need to whip out your CCG resume. This is a CCP game I don't think the players here give 2 wits how many koteis I've TO'd or how many times I've been to Gencon and Origins.
Since the type of sleeves I'm refering to have only been around since 2001 maybe 2000, I can see how it wouldn't have been an issue. Especially considering when Gold edition came around getting different solid colors was a big deal. Before then it was Red/Black/Clear. WHEN it was on the books AEG hardly ever enforced it. Sadly they never do anything until it is blindingly obvious.
Since this is a CCP game/board I'm going redirect this back to my original post: Wait till CCP puts out their tournament rules before going hog wild on sleeves.
