If not - this project will be interesting in showing how to live the life of a lone wolf.
For sure you'll be threatened not like other "real new players" - I'm unsure wheter you should go incognito or not. But maybe that would suit CCP Rise or CCP Fozzie better.
Let's see what kind of impact you'll have on market speculations... "CCP Falcon bought a huge stock of EMP S - there must be an upcoming devblog where they buff EMP S, we all need to buy now!"
Also, this is not true. CCP employees are not allowed to lead large nullsec corps, but they are free to join any corp they want. They aren't allowed to scam or suicide gank as well.

For sure, but there are ways of saying these things, Im very aware of "why" hes IA and why its of interest to him, you could say my corp got him his job :p.
Just doesnt need to **** on a colleague in public, could have said "IA are aware of this and will be monitoring it closely", bam, everyone is happy. |

Falcon, I know it'd be a bit of extra effort but you should potentially look at transcoding clips and sections of this project onto a YouTube channel (maybe not the official CCP ran ones) so that new players interested can see a semi-Let's Play from a dev. Just an idea.

I think this is a good idea and it will be fun to watch. EVEBet should be taking up numbers and putting down odds on what is going to happen.

This is a clumsy comment to direct at an employee who is doing something positive and helpful for new players.

Still doesn't mean he is wrong...
I think its great what Falcon is doing but in no way can it help him relate to how a new player feels simply because he is probably one of the most knowledgeable people about Eve.
One of the major aspects of why Eve is so damn good is its complexity, you can't replicate this just by rolling a new character.
Again, great to see a Dev actually playing Eve on a regular basis and interacting with the community but in regards to resembling a new players experience.. not even close.

Whilst I am sure you are correct, there is still a lot to be learned, if he refuses donations, as the first few million is the hardest. I remember just how tough it was to, afford a fitted Destroyer, only to lose three in a row. With experience, chump change, but to a newbie many days or longer of work. There are skills and experiences that cannot be forgotten and so long as Falcon keeps that in mind, it should be a good experience, for him, and later for all new players.

Again, I applaud what Falcon is doing, but when you have that experience you know what to do and what not to do. Also as a new player you don't have everybody gunning for you just because you are a dev. |

Even veterans can have problems doing the NPE. I still remember watching Elise Randolph doing the same experiment a while back and even he was having some troubles with the tutorials.
But yeah, still won't even get close to the learning curve that new players have to deal with when they are starting. |

The IA post brings up an interesting principle. I wonder whether the balance between direct community interaction and safety is correct at the moment.
I would like to see more direct and public dev interaction. I would like to see devs flying around much more often trying normal things. I've never seen a CCP character in lowsec. I think the current rules are too restrictive and limit interaction too much.
We have come a long way from T20. A conversation with the community about the appropriateness of certain actions by CCP characters would be welcome and might even be surprising.

What?
I have started fresh accounts and characters before for the purposes of spying. Even without transfers of isk it's not particularly hard for a veteran to become established and make money because I, as a player, know exactly what I'm doing when it comes to skills, ships, fittings, and effective ways to make isk.
When I was a newbie in 2006 I lost a Badger full of Antibiotics to a TunDraGon gatecamp in Aunenen. I didn't know what the hell I was doing. I didn't know any tricks for being safer or any better ways to make money.
If you are a complete newbie you'll most likely follow the career funnel straight into mining, and biomass your character in about a month because you're bored to tears. Maybe you'll train up defender missiles because they sound cool? Maybe you'll try to fit your Merlin with lasers? Maybe you'll go belt ratting in lowsec while not knowing what local is. Maybe you'll fit your ship by buying modules and seeing if they'll fit onto your ship instead of downloading EFT to work out what's the best fit. Maybe if you are looking for a ship fitting you'll end up on Battleclinic. Maybe you'll try to navigate through the game using the rats nest that is the ingame map instead of just going on Dotlan.
So... I really don't think that this experiment is going to provide much useful insight if CCP Falcon considers the knowledge of a 10+ year veteran to be 'on equal footing' to a brand new player with a link to the Eve Uni wiki. |

I fear you lack the completely fresh perspective of a new player who knows figuratively nothing of the ins and outs of mechanics or ways to get ahead in the game at all and makes terrible life choices such as mining in an apocalypse or grinding out missions in hisec like I did back when I started. All the same it's a neat idea, I'm sure this will at the very least teach new players watching your stream a few things about the game and hopefully will allow you to scrutinise a lot of the new player experience and share your findings with other devs. Eve's player retention has been historically pretty low and I'll support anything to bring more new blood into the world of mining to replace all the isboxing accounts that are being unsubbed. Devs playing their own game can never be a bad thing in my eyes.
if you want to improve the new player experience you could always fix rat AI so the rats don't rush to defend the guy who's been shooting at their friends for hours/days/years from the bright-eyed t1 thrasher pilot just because he activates his spooky warp scrambler :^)
