Hello everyone. I'm a wormhole player, so I do a lot of scanning. I also manage to kill a decent number of scanning boats out here as well. And I've noticed something about scanning based on the fits I've seen: scanning speed isn't as powerful a utility buff as scan strength and deviation reduction. Most fits emphasize scan strength, and reasonably so when it means you can catch that ship one scan radius higher than the next guy. Most of the time spent after hitting the "Scan" button is while the probes warping. It is my belief that Astrometric Acquisition isn't currently worth training to V when the benefit is so minute compared to the other scanning skills. Thus I propose the skill bonus be changed from 5% reduction in scan probe scan time per level to 5% increase in scan probe warp speed per level. Of course, the Scan Acquisition Array modules would also be changed to confer +10/20% scan probe warp speed bonuses. With these changes Acquisition-focused scan fits would actually become preferable in certain situations and the scan meta can be tweaked slightly to hopefully generate some interesting content.

Six of one, half dozen of another. It does make a difference, if you already have probes near his safe spot. I just hope they don't add another skill for probe warp speed.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Right now, if you know roughly where your prey is/will be, you can get into position and drop the probes so that transit time is negligible. Not to mention a lot of combat scanning is done against people already on grid, with probes pre-deployed, where there is no transit time at all. If this change happened, then Astrometic Acquisition wouldn't be worth the train to III or IV, let alone V. |

I'd like to change the skill to allow it to pick up other objects in space like GSC and possibly wrecks. The change to the skill can represent an increase in the capsuleers sophistication at scanning for objects of more varieties. CCP openly state nothing should be unscannable but yet there are things that can't be scanned..

I hadn't thought of that. Most of my experience is in trying to stealthily combat probe a target down, for which I often use 32 AU scan radii and a probe formation to keep my probes off d-scan. I use a deviation-reduction, high-strength setup so I can get a better idea of where they are from longer range and then move the probes in much closer to hopefully find the target with only a single scan cycle before being spotted on d-scan.
At the very least, probe warp speed modules, rigs, or a skill should be considered as viable additions to the game in order to shake up the combat scanning meta and allow for more stealth-focused fits.
