Edited by: Zorok on 02/09/2006 08:49:07 I have a unique solution to the problem of instas that won't require any skill training or require having to give up slots on your ship. The way this system would work is that you would press a button to intiate your ship's Navigation Mode. When your ship is running in this mode, your warp accuracy is 1500M but you consume twice as much capacitor when you warp as well as taking a 50% penalty to all your weapon-system's damage capability. This would apply to all weapons to include drones as well. To prevent the system being abused, there would be a 5 min timer where you can't switch back to normal attack mode during that time. Once in normal mode, Navigation Mode can be reinitiated instantly. Also docking will reset the 5 min timer and set your ship back to normal mode. The beauty of this mode is that it would only be useful for travel and nothing else. Comments anyone?

On a separate note, I propose allowing BMs still in the game to help with mining ops and gate placement however I believe that no bookmarks should be allowed within 15KM of the jumpgates. Everywhere else is free game.

After thinking about the possible abuses with this system, I would also say that in addition to the 5 min timer, have it so if a ship is in navigation mode and warps to within 15km of a gate, navigation mode can't be switched off. This is done to prevent abuse by pirates who will just wait the 5 min timer out jump to a gate at 1500M and then switch back to normal mode to catch players coming through a gate. It would be almost as bad as a log-in trap. Besides if they want to do that, that's what covert-ops are for :-D

An interesting concept which although potentially subject to abuse, is no more so than other 'solutions' mooted so far. I think the big and most obvious downside to it that I can see at first glance is that anyone 'rigged for travel' and gets caught in a bubble is at an immediate disadvantage whereas with instas they'd get pulled up short of the gate but would still have full combat capability if they were setup to do so....ergo people will just use instas. "no instas within 15km of the gate", I"ll set them to 30, or 40 or 60km. The potentially obvious solution to that of course is no bm's within 200km of the gate...gate pirates have to work a fraction harder, cov-ops pilots scouting gates have to work from further out..Hmm seems simple on the surface of it, I'm sure someone will come up with something else though! I like it at the moment though.

Agreed! I never thougt about that possibility with making 60KM bookmarks. Yes 200KM would be a better option. Thanks!

125km would be better, since 100 is max warp range.
200km is good for tactical BMs.

True but people will still have to go all the way out to 200km to create the BMs they won't warp in at 200km when in normal mode. It will still be the usual warp distances that we now have.

Good idea, but I maintain that the problem with bm's is their implementation, not what they do (see my post).

This isn't just part of a solution to the BM issue but also a way to facilitate CCPs goal of making 0.0 more habitable to those who currently choose not to venture out there due to the fact they don't have the money for BMs etc. This comment is actually a suggestion in tandem with my other suggestion concerning the invulnerability shell.
