As a new player considering being a pirate, I found quickly that I would need some kind of a ship setup to suit my needs. After asking around about what things do, etc, I finally came up with the following. I'd appreciate purely constructive critique on the setup. It took me several hours worth of working the numbers, and by the end I wasn't sure if it was all 100% correct, but feel free to point out errors and I'll correct them. Without any further delay, here is my proposed design. Included is all the information you probably ever need about this character and setup, and then some.
**Setup** -Based on use of the Tristan Class frigate-

*All suggestions are based on my preferences* -Ive never used a passive targt so i dont know just how usefull itl be once a fight starts (i dont like it cuz its not like u can instapop things ina frig). Id personally use either a sensore damp or a multi spec ecm. -I personally never plate my frigs cuz theyr paper thin anyway what i do like to use is a DCU or energised nano. -I like the nos so u can run the scram/rep if need be for a longer period of time... To me it looks like a decent set up.

I tend to agree with you about the plating thing, but about the passive targeter - I believe it will be useful in the sense that if I catch somebody in an asteroid belt who doesn't want trouble and is busy ratting, the ability to sneak up on them while they're occupied with minimal suspicion seems to make it seem very worth it. Now, mind you, I am reading the effects of these modules at face value, and have never really seen them in action, but it makes sense to me. |

Locking time on a frigate is so small it won't matter if they know or not, they'll know as soon as you fire on them. Swap the passive targetter for something else (web/cap battery/etc.).

Ok, I understand now. Ship stats updated. Thanks |

One not-so-small problem there: you can't activate modules as you're hoping to. To bring a module online outside of a station's fitting service, you need 95% cap, and you drop to very low cap after it's done. If you're running the AB, you won't have that 95% cap, and won't be able to bring your SAR online.
Just train Engineering up to at least level IV, and your setups will get a lot easier to fit.

never use a damage control on a frigate... not very effective. ---"What's in your wallet?"--- "There are two kinds of respect, fear and admiration.... I'll take what I can get" |

Armor: 430 HP Structure: 382 HP
Add a DC and you almost double the length of your tank. Definitely worthwhile on Gallente ships (and is useful on some others as well).

Train engineering to 4 ASAP, and to 5 in a few weeks. It will boost your powergrid significantly! Electronics will also improve your CPU, which is good.
ditch neutron blasters for Ions, they're easier to fit and do the job well.
Never leave a lowslot empty, you can always fit a nanofiber internal structure for extra speed.
Don't forget your light drone, can't hurt ...
And, tbh, you're a bit underskilled to go for solo piracy. Find a group who'll fly with you and perhaps with a bit more experience to guide you. _

And where exactly would I find a group like this? |

doubtfull you will even be able to do so. stop training your darn skills for this setup and train your learning skills, being a pirate, you cant really afford to loose implants with the risk of having a anti-pirate corp blow the stuffmuffins out of you.
if i were you i would not think about being a pirate for about ahh a good 3-4 months so you will have the 1337 skills and actualy be affective in pirate gangs.

Train the skills that'll give you a benefit now at this point in the game. When you've got a setup and skillset you're comfortable with, then train the learnings. You won't see any benefit from them for months.

I'd train the learning soon all to lv 4 at least, they will reduce the time required on most early skills by hours, ofc u wont see their true edge till u start the longer skills but its very usefull to have early on. Train all support gun skils u can. Leanr the engineering/electronics/mechanic (truly depends on what time of tanking sys ur gonna use. Plz remeber pirates set up to hit fast and hard. So gunning/missle (depends on ur style, though i prefer guns) are a must at least have em all at 4, scep into small guns if ur gonna be using frigs btw its relatively quick. Also remember that ewar turns the tide of any fight (ECM is overpowered atm, but u can also use things like webs/sensor damps and boosters/tracking disruptors etc) so train electronics.

About learnings, my usual advice for starters is :
- In your first few days, train a minimum of skills to lvl 3 to fit a frig for NPC. (said list is on an In game Notedpad)
- then train basic learnings to 4 (variant if you plan for early group pvp: train for mwd, webber, just after you've trained your learnings to 2/3)
- At this point, you should have better understandings of the game mechanics and be able to get a few more useful skills for what you plan to do. Skill up a bit and ...
- Train your advanced learnings to 4, takes some time but is definitely worhtwile.
If you encounter a skill that would help you big time while you're after your learnings, don't worry too much and take a few hours off to train it to lvl.2! A few hours missing won't have any impact on the long run! _
