Nothing should be done or will be done.
People put their isk in a position where it could easily be stolen, and it was stolen.

How funny, CCP do something about it ??? from what i've seen here CCP believe that if you get scammed in rl you can get scammed here, hey thats fine, the only piece of non rocket science CCP don't seem to have figured out yet is that crime in real life has punishment as it's balancing factor, in CCP's yarry cool piraty universe there's crime, crime and crime, and punishment ? whats that, thats not all cool and yarry and stuff is it....... look at the guys whose accounts just got hacked, what happens ? they get their accounts banned, ie they persecute the victims of the crime. yarr ? lol

Heres all I have to say about scamming in EVE: If you're naive enough to fall for it, you deserve it..live and learn. Might sound like pedestal preaching, but I've never once been scammed in EVE, because imho you have to be more then unreasonably blind to fall victim to it.

I just really can't care about a scam for fictional money. By the end of the day CCP owns it all anyhow.
Maybe that's why people are much more willing to invest and take "risks" in the IPO and not really caring when it turns out to be a scam. Because it's not their money. Their money are the ones CCP recives every month. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute |

Equating smart or intelligent with scam-proof-ness is pretty dodgy, imo.
Correlating it with low trust levels, or hight fraidy-cat levels may be more useful.

Better to lose money here than in real life. If anyone learned from this they got that knowledge very cheap.

I think it would be interesting if there was a way to 'buy' people's banking records. Much like you can pay agents to track people down for you, it would be nifty if some guy is in some faction's space, you can find some agent in that space and if you have enough standing pay him to get info about whoever scammed you - like who they've been giving money to, who they've traded with, etc. Then there is an in-game mechanism for tracking who really benefits from the scam.
And it should be hard - so maybe you need really good standing with the one agent who can get thebanking records for the area of space the guy is in - and you probably odn't have the standing you need, so you need to find a player who does have the standing and pay him to pay the agent to get the information you want.
Information trading is certainly a potential area of development for the EVE universe. _____ Lifewire is a big, ugly, mean... carebear. |

Hm, I think people are missing the point of the OP a little. She's not suggesting everyone get their money back and CCP not allow this behavior, it seems she wants more Official in-game action around it. Which, with the consent of some of the involved players, might be neat.
If CCP contacted Dentara and got agreement, maybe they could put up signs on billboards about the notorious criminal on the run from the law, that kind of thing. Not interefering with the mechanics, but taking advantage of a well-publicized event to add a little more flavor to the game.
In short, no one gets their money back, no one gets banned or officially punished, and no more threads about that get posted because they're dumb. But the story does get used for RP purposes by CCP. Not a bad idea, in theory. |

as sooo many will say, it is a sandbox...
ok fine
now pay attention, to NOT be scammed, ganked, griefed, you must NEVE EVER EVER trust anyone in the game, not even your ceo, or other corpmates.
Never give anyone isk upfront, for any reason. Never give them items. Never help others.
Always F-over anyone you can Always gank and grief when you can Always steal when you can
The point...F others before they F you....after all that is what the game is all about according the lack of ingame police and courts (rules) that would give you an avenue of recourse.
remember, in the game, you have no friends, only potential victims.(thats the way CCP wants it)

It's not that they cannot do anything about it, it's that they don't want to do anything about it.
CCP's vision of EvE has always been a game where players make the content, not the game itself. Want the perpetrators punished? Fine. Punish them yourself. Afaik Dentara Rast is using his cash to fly officer fitted faction battleships into PvP. Punish him.

Why does CCP need to do anything about it?
Are you helpless? Do you not have your own spaceship with guns and/or missiles? If the guys who pulled off the EIB scam (congrats!) offend you so much, why not go kill them repeatedly?
"OH NOES! I'm only a weak little player who lost my life's savings in the EIB scam. I can't fight someone like that!"
Well, there were lots of people who got scammed. Get them ALL to stop whining and begging CCP to refund their ISK because they were gullible, and build a giant fleet to go smack the guilty. If they all had enough ISK to "invest" 700 billion in a scam, I'm sure they could cough up enough for a decent sized fleet to go camp the former EIB members.
EIB scam == brilliant gameplay entirely within the rules. Move along, nothing to see here.

Clearly, owning a certain share of stock has a great deal of correlation with one's intelligence. Or not.
Putting one's faith in said share of stock has some correlation with one's intelligence.

but wheres the punishment ? real life ain't all yarry and cool, people get caught, then they pay, "we cant do nuffink about it yarr", well it sounds all modern and cool yarr, but, well its just a cop out at the end of the day. and no i wasnt scammed in any way (fyi) just feel that they are forgetting crime goes with punishment, it doesn't get a free reign, with no punishment.

He scammed himself really - instead of being known as one of the founding members of what could have been one of the greatest player created contents in EvE, he'll just be known as some guy who suckered a bunch of idiots. He also damaged the ability of anyone else who might want to create a banking corp.

That's for the players to do. Nothing stops people from war-deccing any corp Rast joins.
Ofcourse he may, and probably will, just use other characters, which is what happens far too often, as alts tend to let you commit aa 'perfect' crime.
Sorry you can't afford a dev so you get me instead ^^ - Xorus I hear Xorus is only 50 isk an hour - Immy Oooh that could get Suvetar for the day! - Cathath |
