Wow!! Map looks fantastic, am really impressed with this! Nicely done CCP
Couple thoughts thought - will keep short and very specific since that seems to be what's helpful. To me #4 is the most important.
1. Map rotation speed when you click + drag feels sluggish compared to the current map; IMO definitely needs to be the same as the current map
2. I don't see the square cursor adding anything...prefer the old one. However others may feel differently.
3. System names need to show up when you hover the cursor over a system
4. Glowy lines and dots looks really nice but for a map, but slightly larger and brighter dots and clearer lines would make it much easier to navigate (readability and clarity is more important for a map than fanciness - although it does look really really good). |

THIS. Map sluggish to rotate by click + drag compared to the old one. Looks amazing, but if I had to use it for something, I'd use the old one. Can we have the option to retain the old map?
EDIT: One other point - "ships destroyed in the last 24 hours" should show when you hover your mouse over a system (shouldn't need to click on it to see this info). |

Couple things now that it's been updated:
1) One other VERY BIG issue that I would like to point out is that using right click to drag the map around does not work!
This means that it's nearly impossible to navigate to a star on the other side of the map if you're zoomed in and clicked on something. You're basically stuck with the thing you've clicked on centered on screen, which should not be the case. At the moment the only way to look at another region for example is to click on a system from being very far zoomed out, and that system will then center on screen. It makes the map very uncomfortable to navigate.
2) The map rotation speed is still slower than the old one so it feels sluggish and not easy to move around.
I'm SUPER happy that the stupid square mouse has been removed, thx for that CCP! The pointer is much better. |

1. This is intended, at least for now. Right-click-panning the map was causing some issues so it has been disabled for now. We want to see how players feel about not manually panning but rather clicking on stars to center on them to pan. We will continue to make experiments like this while the new map is still in beta. 2. I'll pass this on to the team.
Ah ok! Thanks for getting back about this :) I wondered about the right click-drag thing....but since it's intentional it makes sense, cheers. I agree with what others above have said though - don't make this a permanent change please...super irritating. If people want to navigate by clicking, they can do that without everyone being forced to do so by removing the right-click/drag feature.
On the rotation speed - I checked just to make sure I wasn't crazy......a full click+drag across the width of my screen rotates the current map 2.5 times, but the new map 1.5 times.
Another two things I noticed;
A. The old map loads for me defaulted with esoteria/paragon soul at the bottom of the map (if you are looking from 'above'). The new beta map loads by default the opposite way (with esoteria/paragon soul at the top edge).
B. When docked in station - the old map hides the station services window when opened; the new map does not. |
