Depends what GM it is... I heard Arkanon is hot...
But dont you agree with me? Its stupid GMs cant see modules last activated or anything like that?
Ofcorse plenty of people will have good experiances with GMs since they sit in empire non-stop but those in 0,0 who have experianced this client lock-up and have lost ships to it will tell you as i am its completley annoying for the customer service of a game you love to do nothing to help you with a problem that is entirly nothing to do with you.
What you are asking for would surely create as many problems as it solves, if not more. Even putting aside the storage concerns you would have with that amount of logging, actively keeping a log of all module activations and the like would put a massive strain on the servers - and we all know that the servers have no load on them already
The way I see it, client crashes, net dropouts etc all fall under the "**** happens, move on" category. Its a part of online gaming that we just need to live with.
Then lets do somthing never done before on the eve-o forums. Agree to disagree because as i see it client freezing is nothing to do with my computer, absolutley nothing at all so it can only mean server-side. Net drops i agree, nothing should be done about them, if its anything to do with your computer not being upto standard to play eve, then i agree, forget the petitions but when you have a fast PC that can handle alot more than EvE then the client freezes its quite frustrating when it happens to you not once, but twice. ________ Euphoria Released

I've petitioned because my modules were activated, but they weren't applied to my Apoc at the time (My repair wasn't working, it was activly taking away cap, but armor wasn't being applied every so often). I petitioned one like that twice down where my corp resides, and I got BOTH ships back. They wouldnt of given me my ships back if they couldnt prove what modules are activate or not.
Then its selective replies. Some people 'we can see that in the log' and others get their ships back.

Sure, there is no issue with your computer itself, but remember the EVE client has its own bugs and habits. I know mine just closes for no apparent reason from time to time (haven't lost a ship to it yet, thankfully). You can have a perfectly happy computer, a perfectly happy server, but your eve client might grumble all by itself.
What I am saying is that just because your computer runs fine does not automatically mean the problem is with the server. The client is the meat in that sandwich and can have issues too. The problem is that when these issues occur, there is no way for the GM's to tell, and probably never will be.

hes right though sid, say i jump my carrier into a fleet battle and i imediately notice its screwed al;l i would have to do is sit ther and not activate anything and i would get my ship back.
What you are proposing opens up far too much exploitability. Loosing a ship suxz, loosing a ship to a bug suxz even more, but you enemy getting back there ship they dont deserve would **** me of even more.
im afraid a agree than you have to prove to them it was there fault rather rather than the other way around. and i have lost ships to lag and stuff and never got them back so i know how it feels, but i prefer it this was than the way you are propsing.
I will agree though than CCP Customer service can be lackign at time in other elements such as que times. i think mainly its because they got caught flat footed a bit with the sudden increase in players.

sorry but..
the few times I have needed customer services they have been helpful to me.. and the reason there logs don't show anything after a month is quite simple really.. there are over 100k actual users with upto 30k on at any given time.. now consider that EVERY ACTION they make is recorded to a 'log' thats a hell of alot of logs...
so sadly to save the servers crashing due to there being billions of logs clogging up the servers they have to clean out the older logs... which unfortuantly means that some ppl have to suffer
yes I have a petition in atm, before anyone says well you aren't having to wait.. but the way I see it is if I am able to get my stuff back then YAY if not I remember THIS IS ONLY A GAME!!!!

No it shouldnt, because a locked up client would pretty much appear the same to the eve server (ie. to the GM's TOOL!) as a pulled out network cable, or a closed client, or a switched off power button.
As such, reimbursing that kind of thing would be highly exploitable.
AND BEFORE YOU SAY IT!! You can have more than one computer / player on the one ip. Having more than one active account on an ip does not automatically equal you should get your stuff back if one drops off. --

If they don't have that attitude, thats when players will start exploiting the petition system. As such, they go by THEIR logs and THEIR tools, and if they can find a problem on their side, they will happily reimburse you.

I didnt crash it was a game freeze, where one client froze and the other (on the same PC) worked fine. I was running windows media player in the background and thats all, my PC can handle 3 EvE clients open while using bit-torent and a media player open without much problems at all... so two clients and one media player should be easy.

Edited by: Garia666 on 05/09/2006 14:55:14 Edited by: Garia666 on 05/09/2006 14:47:51 Excellent Idea Sid, Where should i start there is to much to mention.
First of all i think i can say after years of playing that i can have a good opinion over the part of customer service.
And with the word customer service in mind i dare to say the following. My overall opinion is that CCP isn't a Professional Organization ( and just to make sure you all get what i mean.) That doesn't mean there technical skills as they use the most advanced technology to run there service to host there Magnificent game.
However Costumer support is far from professional.
Words like they are trying to address the problems ( with customer support ) are words we hear far to many and for a to long of a time.
The forums are controlled by to people who deliberately censor it in such a way they could learn a Chinese tyrant the ropes on doing it effectively. Words like fair and objectively are not to be found in any Icelandic dictionary what so ever. However when your in BoB or are good pals with an GM or Forum Admin you can get so far.. You even can get your own private stuff stiky-ed in the forums as other people need to F off.
Another example
They have own made rules ( EULA/FORUM ) Rulez they don't even live by.
A Tiny Example is Forum rule 21. What do you do when you have a problem with a moderator? You have to send your eve mail to the same moderator email address which never will arrive at any administrator.
I could go on for another 30 minutes but i wont as i am trying to stay constructive and try not to let it get to me.

sidthesexist, you are wrong about the clients.
If one client is running in bad memory, it can crash, whilst the other one will simply carry on running. Most likely if one of the clients are crashing, its a problem on your end. I can run 3-5 on mine with no issues what so ever. If one client fials and the other runs fine, then it's an issue on your end 90% of the time. Corp: www.ravenwarriors.com |

one client lagged the other one out due to not getting enough CPU time for soem stupid reason. ur computer does not like running 2-3 instances at once.... ur memory is loaded full of crap from other aps overheating if u run them out of 2 different folders... one might havce files that are fragmented to hell and caused a freeze couse the HD couldnt get the info fast enough u have virsues.. trojans... lot of ebil stuff
and the list goes on....but i cant even say enything that would be near 80% correct... couse i dont know what kind of comp do u have.... what type of soft u use, what state is ur system in... how meny ppl use it... yadadadada plapla loads of tehnical crap and mambojambo

basically how i see customer service atm..... IF u take the time and write all the info u have and how it happened, u have a chace on getting a fast reply... couse it much easyer for them to check up on things from the logs....
i dont think most ppl immagine how much log is written PER second ingame... its insane ammount...
if u write i: i lost my raven to some bug.... can i have it back... kthxbye who will wanna go through the log and find out what happened... i wouldnt...it would be a HUGE waste of time...
but a faster reply would be nice on some occations....

WRONG each client is running its own instance of eve - each ofthose is a seperate process - wich means there buth running sepertly - so if 1 locks up it could be becasue your computor has alocated resources to the outher account of eve - also each client has its own connection to the server so 1 client locking up is not server side OR they would both lock up because that there both on teh same server - so infact by saying 1 froze and the outher dident you are infact saying that the server connection was ok and that infact u know this because your outher acount was still running on it

Now shut up before i get Pug or Species onto you.
Ohh and i can afford to lose them its just the most annoying thing losing them to a freeze and not getting them back!!
So by that logic, if they cant prove it was my fault for losing a ship, I should get it back?
That attitude may work in some industries, but in a game like this it would ruin the meaningful nature of its PVP. How would you feel if every time you killed someone fair and square, they petitioned the loss as a "client lock up" and got their ship and mods back.
Personally, I would get fed up very fast.
Wtf is wrong with you? Stop trying to defend customer service, it is crap and you know it, your just afraid of all your PKs getting their ships back.
It's not about being fair to make sure you don't "exploit the reimbursement system" it's about going over the top to make sur eeveryone is having a good enjoyment of the game. That's how it works, you should expect to get your ship back if it really was a bug.
So some guy gets his Ferox back after you blew it up? Oh boy, it's the end of the world, I can't enjoy the game until he has no ISK left. EVE is a PvP based game, not a grief based one, if nubs want their ship back give them back, even if you do have to wait a month.
I'm sure if CCP was more forgiving with reimbursement everyone would be happier.
Except you, since you apparently just like to flame people in an argument of opinion, because you know they cannot possibly "win"

i wouldent be happy and i expect alot of other people wouldent be, also i doubt allaince would be whos only way of beeing someone is by makign them have no isks left.
As for new GM tools... the only thing they could do would be to put a "spyware" program on your PC to tell them what your PC weas doing at the time of the crash... that always causes a huge uproar as peoplwe say its a invation of privacy bla bla bla... and people will complain it slows down there computer or makes it crash.
otherwise they have no way of telling if its your PC,your client, your ISP, Your telephone/cable company, your router, modem, packet loss, the supplier of the connection between countries, there isp. All they can see if there server has done something funkey if it hasnt then they have no idea if you crashed, fell asleep, logged etc... I dont think there are any tools that can cover all of those.

I'm sure people contacting the GM's would enjoy the game much more if they gave out free faction battleships for every petition, so lets have them do that. After all, we have to go over the top to make sure everyone is enjoying the game
Originally by: DefJam101 So some guy gets his Ferox back after you blew it up? Oh boy, it's the end of the world, I can't enjoy the game until he has no ISK left.
One guy with one ferox isn't the problem. But it wouldn't just be one guy with one ferox, it would be thousands of guys with thousands of feroxes, battleships, HACs, Carriers, Dreads....If that happened on a large scale, it would be incredibly damaging to the game. Economics is a big part of Eve, and destroyed suff is a big driver of the economy and economic warfare. If the reimbursement system started being abused, the consequences would spread through the entire game.
Originally by: DefJam101 EVE is a PvP based game, not a grief based one, if nubs want their ship back give them back, even if you do have to wait a month.
And because the nubs get their ships back every time they come up with a good lie, they then have no need to buy new ships. So demand for ships falls, demand for minerals falls - thus nerfing everyone using those elements of the game.
Not to mention that if the reinbursements petitions turned into the "free ship dispenser", the queue would get a lot longer than a month.
The sad truth is that people do lie. The more they stand to gain, and the more they think they can get away with it, the more they tend to lie. If the GM's worked on the assumption that the player was telling the truth, they would be ruthlessly abused by the liars, and the consequences for the game as a whole would be devastating. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

Originally by: sidthesexist As said above, running two clients one freezes the other doesnt, if it was my problem both would freeze.
I've had situations - especially before upgrading to 1GB or when Eve's been "leaky" when I've had the computer go into "disk thrash" and one client has frozen totally solid for a minute or more (or just feels that way!) whilst the other (running on the other hard disk) has been quite unaffected.
I'm not saying this was what happened to you, just that it is definitely possible to get only one client freezing due to clientside issues!

I am bumping this topic to see if CCP is man enough to adress and aknowledge that they have problems with there customer service. And instead of locking or hoping that the Topic will die out.
I would be an great idea to make this in to a sticky

A suggestion for CCP:
Remove the 'reimbursment' petition option altogether. The only provided response is 'No', no matter how heavily weighed the proof is to an exploit used or a server-side issue.
