Crow is a caladri ship.
Why do people pimp it out so? With 3 missile launchers points it is hands down one of, if not the best, interceptor.

because as soon as you make an inty go really ..REALLY fast, then tracking plays into the issue....and yes those caldari weapons dont need tracking

Pimping modules generally come in 2 types: speed and tank. There are others, like ecm and weapons, but they're not used nearly as much.
Spending serious cash to faction tank an inty is obviously a bit of a waste, since anything cruiser sized or above will probably kill you anyway. Speed is basically the only way, especially since it's the inties primary means of survival, like the tank is to the average pimped battleship.
Problem is, once you're going a million miles a second, you can't hit anything....except with missiles.
Long answer short, speed is the only thing worth pimping on an inty, crow ignores speed penalties (tracking) best, therefore most pimped inties are crows.

That is a perfectly thought out and explained response. Your forum-foo is strong.
To the OP: I agree, pimpin' out small ships is a huge waste of isk unless you have billions in the bank. One time a guy in my corp had a pimped stealth bomber, and he was lobbing torps at me and messing with his 30k warp scrammer when some NPCs spawned. I had sentry drones out and... somehow, they blew up his bomber. (one or two hitted him no less!) Moral of the story: expensive mods in small delicate ships are about the same level as investing in faction mods for an Ibis. ------------------------------------------

the thing about pimping out a crow to go 8kms+ (not hard, just need the implants) is that you should actually never die... So, wheres the waste their?

Pimping out a Crow isn't a waste of isk, if you literly can't loose a 1on1 against anything and are pretty much untouchable. And unless lag plays a major part there is no way a skilled pilot is gonna loose his implants flying a crow.
That said, nerf pirate implants...

As said, it's down to 'insane' speed and range combined with missiles, that don't suffer from tracking and optimal/falloff.
Basicly, only way to pimp a non-crow ceptor would be with a halo set - which doesn't offer anything close to what the snake-crow does.

It's the only Interceptor that can effectively fight at the speeds that are attainable with implants and gang assist.
(Due to the wonderful eve physics that add your own velocity to the enemies transversal and thus kill gun tracking. If the Crows velocity would be added to the targets velocity when computing damage sustained through missile explosion velocity you'd be about equally nerfed <wink>.)

Great responses! Thank you much for clearing this up. I personally like to go against the flow and use the Stiletto and the Taranis more than any other. They serve their purposes.

I'll leave this with a nerfing thought, because they're always fun: bring firing ship speed into play when doing the explosion speed damage reduction computation.
The Crow is one of the few ships that spits out missiles above their natural speed, and it's very powerful for it.

Why should the crow choose to get into your range? Of course an outpimped AC Claw can beat such a Crow, considering the lights will do way too little damage if it doesn't web the Claw. But you can always choose to not fight, and my pod would be safe, still... Don't speak english, just F5, F5, F5... |

Crow has been the interceptor "favorite" since... well... before August 2004, I know that much.
Personally I'm going for a Raptor, just because I'm messed in the head (and they're dirt cheap compared to a crow).

I have a raptor, nano's tech II mwd etc...I use it to transport my pod between ships and ops, they really make for great shuttles you know.

It's simple the only ship that can be pimped for speed and still hit as long it's in missile range. What good is a ranis going so fast? Can't hit crap.

but it's easier for a blasterranis to get fast longrange ceptors (if they are not pimped) into webrange ___________________

Please enlighten me on this crow business. All things being equal with implants and named mods, for pure speed crusaders must be faster because of the lowslots right? Or even the minmatar one that's lighter than the crusader? Never understood what you people are on about with specifically the crow being fast tbh

But a turret based interceptor can not hit the target when going at such high speeds - which the missile based crow can. - Hence such speed is "completely" useless on other interceptors.

Bring other ceptors up to crow standard instead of nerfing crow. Deduct own speed from target speed for transversal purposes on turret ceptors (hello crusader!)

Yeah I read some of the thread now and people are apparently discussing ceptors which not only are fast but can actually be used for something :) I still like fast crusaders for ultra fast tackling though.

EDIT And I'd like to see a crow get away from a crusader with 4 nanos and a webber. It'll be in your face like water when you fall over with a wakeboard and then you'll be going "but I had 3 launchers :(" and I'll fly off and lol!!

Did you try to fire a missile to a ship moving with 5km/s? The missiles don't need tracking, that's right, But the missiles do damage at around 0.1Damage per hit. How long would you takt to kill 100Shield? Right, 1k of missiles. If a small ship moves to you direct way you kill it with one or two volley out of medium guns, with missiles it doesn't matter if he flies directly to you or transversal, you do no damage. And if a Crow can go with 9km/s a Claw or Crusader can go for 10 - 12km/s
