I am about a week away from being able to sit in a Thanatos. I just figured out I have to train leadership to be able to use fighters. Is there a post or can someone give me information on what else I will need to train to use it well? |

check all prereqs for :
Thanatos Fighters Capital Armor repairer
Next come:
Advanced Drone Interfacing (if you can fly your carrier, you can learn this one) Jump drive Operation 5 to learn jump drive calibration and jump fuel conservation to 4 capital remote repping modules too Possibly Gang assist mods also consider maxing up your regular drones skills, since fighters aren't always the best option. _

- fighters, 20% damage per level, so go for IV at least - capital armor repairer - advanced drone control interfacing, for extra fighters - preferably jump drive operation V and then jump drive calibration, a big help in making long jumps. - also be sure to have your basic drone skills trained up high, fighters isnt the only weapon a carrier can put to good use, 14 tech2 light or medium drones for example can be nasty vs interceptors. - for capital remote armor repair and shield transfer units you will need remote rep V and shield emission V. for cap transfer you will need energy emission V.

What about guns? Can carriers shoot as well or do they reley on their fighters?

Carriers can't fit gus. Your guns are your drones. ATM I have over 200 drones in my bay so at any time I can send fighters, ECMers, webbers, lights, heavys, reppers, etc. The carrier buys you the ability to change your tactics on the fly. Train to use every drone there is because you will always find a need for them.

How do the different carriers compare to one another?
I know the Gallente one has the most drone bay, with the Caldari and Amarr having the least. Are there any other major diferences that might be good to be aware of?

carrier 4 fighters 4 adv drone interfacing 4 capital armor repairs 4 jump drive ops 5 (yay another really long skill with little benefit ) the 2 advanced jump drive skills at 4
there all pretty much a must

Gallente carrier gets a drone damage bonus, always handy!
Amarr and Caldari get a tanking bonus, not bad but since carriers are currently pos/safespot huggers, not as useful as it looks!
Still very good compared to the crappy remote repair duration bonus the minmatar one gets. You kill your one cap in a blink with remote reppers one a nid' (I fly one, but mostly since I'm known for my optimism when it comes to minmatar ships eventually getting a boost!) _

Caldari/Amarr tanks rock.
I have tanked 2 BSs and a HAC using a Chimera witha T2 tank. Yes, that includes a T2 XL shield booster. They could not get my shield below 98% 
With 6 T2 hardeners and a decent DCU resists are about 85% all around. With gang bonus, skills, and 2x T2 PDUs I had 36k shields.
Hell I was passive tanking a BS and Phoon. I did not need the booster until the second BS showed.
With a Gist/Pith tank, better DCU, the siege warfare gang mods, and a capital booster I'd bet I could tank 5 battleships easily, probably more. So, in a small enagagement the Caldari and Amarr carrier can be on the front lines. The Gal and Minnie sit at a SS and send off fighters.

you can fly a carrier in a week? and you didnt know they cant fit guns? Im sorry but, you fail. ---------------------------

I pretty much just wanted one so that I can move items through 0.0 without having to worry about gate camps. Being able to help out in battle is just a plus. Thanks for all of the info, it has helped me a lot. If you have any other tips or tricks you wish to share, keep them coming. |

Thats one expensive hauler. Bring some friends and you could take as many items/ships up that you wanted with a freighter

Hehe, that's the best use for carriers... I'm also thinking of training for them just for being able to jump past camps but I can never find the time...
