I was questioning that myself in another thread. Most likely CCP just has their hands full with so many changes in the works. Personally I'd love to hear more about updates concerning Tiericide. |

I hope they've been sensible enough to drop it. The whole idea was superfluous. No one was suffering from the existence of named modules. And the lack of creativity demonstrated by whoever was in charge of coming up with new names and descriptions was just breathtaking. I am still irritated every time I see "scoped scanners" and "ample launchers" in my inventory.

I am still irritated every time I see "scoped scanners" and "ample launchers" in my inventory. its like, holy ****, not even WoW has names dumb'ed down as uch as EVE, was watching a friend play it the other day and he picked up a weapon called something along the line sof "grubs skullsmasher", it had a little tooltip that it was a SWORD, but it had the name to explain WHY it had bones and metal teeth attached to it, with a hilt that looked like a hammer

Agree 100% After the initial cries of disapproval Fozzie made a post saying that due to the negative feedback they'd be talking in-house about it. THEN he says something along the lines of "But we reject the notion that players should have to memorize lots of obscure names in order to play Eve effectively."

No, module tiercide is itself a sound idea. What I'm against is a homogenous naming convention and a reduction in incentives to train for T2 modules.
What I hope to see from module tiercide is an increase in diversity between sub-T2 modules, and in situations where T2 is not necessarily the optimal choice (however as said above, I'd like them to maintain a general superiority over T1 variants). I think armor plates are a good example of the latter concept: T2 armor plates provide the biggest boost to armor HP, but in turn they cost more CPU and PG, and they add more to the mass of the ship.
What also needs to happen is an elimination of scenarios where certain variants are superior in every respect. A lot of modules have this issue with regards to their meta 4 and T2 variants, where every attribute between the two types is the same, except that the meta 4 variant is easier to fit and easier on capacitor. The classic argument is that this is fine because T2 modules can be manufactured whereas meta 4 modules are acquired from rat loot drops. In a scenario where the supply of meta 4 modules is limited then it makes sense to use the T2 variant, but in practice this rarely happens.
My biggest concern though is how much immersion is lost if everything has "ample" or "compact" or "polarized" variants. Now I'm not saying that "Quad LiF Fueled Booster Rockets" was a particularly informative name, but it could have been given a name that retained some of its original flavor more than "Prototype 100MN Microwarpdrive I".

SO much this. CCP is taking a wrecking ball to the learning curve in EvE, knocking away big chunks of what makes eve fun and interesting, all while the players continue to sing praises to seagull. I wasn't happy when they changed the missile names, but it was just a small area. This is so broad and encompassing, that I wouldn't be surprised anymore if turrets are eventually named "Large pulse laser" "Medium Pulse Laser" etc. Shame on CCP, for eroding so many of the interesting and unique names many modules had. They are part of the flavour and personality of eve. |

The game hasn't survived for 10 yrs because it was dumbed-down and easy. It's a freakin niche game, not an "appeal to the broadest base" game, and once that changes many if not most of the loyal niche players will leave.
And there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

not to mention the whole, "provides no meaningful changes" aspect of the first round. I mean sure some of the less useful mods can certainly stand a cleanup pass, as we really don't need 4x co processor variants that don't even get used. but the LML changes were just so underwhelming and provided no choices worth making they might as well go the way of clone upgrades.
