Wouldn't it be far more effective to brag about the amazing fleet combat and alliance wars in Eve-online, than to brag about ppl backstabing friends and exploiting trust.
Ohh wait we dont have lagg-free amazing fleet combat... now I understand.

Well done, you answered your own question in your own post in your own thread.
I honestly don't see the point of this thread. What are you wanting them to do?

Have you ever guessed at the amount of people that were drawn to EVE due to the GS-HC heist?

It's more intresting of a story when backstabbing and betrayal is involved to be honest.

Well I don't know really. Seems "many vs many" is done many times over in other games, maybe not in ships but nevertheless. So to show amazing fleet battles would differentiate EVE how? Scamming, intrigue, GHSC heist...well that sort of thing is pretty uncommon, and is usually NOT ALLOWED in other games or seriously frowned upon. My laymen's understanding of marketing is that you advertise the stuff that makes you stand out from the rest. Gives the customer a reason to consider your product versus the dozen of other products out there.
But yah I get your point Lisa. It's not a very good one though imo. If it was a cleverly disguised request for REMOVING LAG, then ya I'm all over that. Less lag please CCP! Otherwise, the OP was just flamebait.

Exactly. Drama sells. Newspapers, soap operas, and reality TV wouldn't draw the crowds if they used a 'puppies and petunias' approach to advertising.
It's a tale of drama, trust, backstabbing, shady characters, community interaction and pitchfork/torch raising, transactions with currency amounts in the billions, and how it all affect the community and the economy.
In a game where there's nothing to do but spam LFG and go on 3hr raids, this could probably never happen, but neither can any of the myriad of other things that happen in EVE on a daily basis.
Talking about the latest IGB reference site, community resource or a corp's earnings from ship building doesn't sell the game to people as well drama does. :)
EVE TV got plugged, the new expansions get plugged... all the features and highlights of EVE get their time in the spotlight.
Caleb is on the money... this stuff gets people reading. ;)

GS-HC??? Guided Social Hands Club??
I like that name more than GH-SC (Guided Hands Social Club)
I was in the corp that got heisted by Aranis Xemdal, an awefull experience really, but also tought me one or 2 things. Seen from a game perspective, its a great job they did. 10 months of lying, deciving and gaining trust. Seen from a personal perspective, it was a low pathetic thing to do.
I guess if I had gotten it through my head earlier that is an essential thing in the game, it wouldn't have been such a bad experience.

Actually, it works quite the other way in the vast majority of the cases. Problem players try out games like EVE, find out that there are repercussions and consequences for their behavior, and flee back to other games where they can circumvent the rules - games where the victim has no recourse available for retribution, revenge, or recouperation of losses.

and where have yo been hiding our head???
Eve is ripe with the lamest game players, because CCP rarely enforses any rule that a large group colaberate on to use, because CCP can not risk losing a few accounts, in order to ensure more will sign up...you wonder why other games have 10x the subscribers (or more), it isn't because the games are better, it is because they do not allow exploit users to remain in the game.

Look at some MMORPGs statistics and see how EvE is one of the few MMORPGs that show an increase of subscriptions without any decrease of them (that is, more people come in than those that go out). And not many games have many more players, there are 11 other MMORPGS in the 120K+ range, and only three of them have th 10x that you ask for
And, AFAIK, people have been banned for different motives, so it's not as there was a lot of exploiters not attacked. Unless you consider a exploit something allowed (scamming), not forbbiden (log-in traps) or that you don't like (warp stabs, gate camping), of course.
Have fun.

sorry but that site shows ENB as one of the current games....so the data is old, not acurate by far.
now saying that, even the old total subscribers of the top games exceeds 1 million....and while eve is on this chart from the site you indicated can't even show eve as a blip on the radar in comparison. FRODO HAS FAILED; BUSH HAS THE RING!!! The HippoKing spots a new post |
