People constantly talk about getting people into 0.0. However, if most of 0.0 is claimed by an alliance, then there's no way for corporations or individuals to actually enter into 0.0. Therefore, the question is: How much of 0.0 is there left for new corporations and individuals to claim?

Not much. Stain seems empty according to the alliance maps, and Curse has lots of small corps/alliances fighting over a very small ammount of systems for so many corps...but for new corps to get into 0.0 the best way is to join a alliance. --------------------------

There is good and bad 0.0 space (good/bad ore, rats, complexes etc). I think basicly all good space is taken, but if you settle for bad 0.0, there is plenty of 0.0 systems that you can move in to.
Of course gank squads can show up and try to kill you, but... thats life in 0.0.

Yes, but I'm talking about REALISTIC solutions here, unless you think that a corp should be able to defeat alliances before they enter into 0.0.

So you think that someone should be able to take on alliances before they enter into 0.0. Fine, that's your opinion.
In exchange, please don't be one of the people who cry "Why do people always stay in Empire. They must not go to 0.0 because they're cowards." No it's because they can't defeat alliances (though this is not necessary at the momnent, there's only so many 0.0 systems around.
The main problem I see, is how easy it is to defend a large section of territory. Many of the 0.0 systems have only a handful of Out of Reigon jumps. You could then defend dozens of systems by only camping four gates. This enabled huge sections of space to be claimed.

tbh - not all ways into 0.0 depend on the power of bullets .. sometimes words work also ...
and entering a terretory claimed by alliance/corp A doesn't mean you'll die instantly to them if they don't like you. it only means - you'll likely run into them - if you can evade them you won't get killed by them. a "claim" normally only means "who are the watchdogs i have to look for" ___________________

Edited by: Eternal Fury on 06/09/2006 14:12:26 take a fast ship(Inty's are great for this) and just go to a region that is close, and start flying around.
You'll find that a lot of times even the big dogs on the block don't spend any time in certain systems.
If you Toss a Large POS up, outfit it for long term use(ammo/drone factories, refineing array, corp hanger, ship hanger, and some guns utilizeing ammo from teh NPC Drops in the area) you can effectively stay in their space, just safe spotting when they come by.
If you avoid any and all contact with them, don't build more then one or two POS's, they will in most cases ignore you. It's only when you start mineing in their good systems, or trying to run the complex's they claim that they start getting territorial.
Though, most DO have an NBSI policy.
But hey, it works.
Once you've been out there for a few months, some of their people will start thinking of that area as yours, even if you don't claim it. If you occationally help them out, you may even be able to get + standings with them. Attack pirates, occationally help out their people, and you may even become a friend to that alliance, or even be asked to join.

The way alliances go about 'claiming space' is arrogant and stupid most of the time.
You don't claim a region just because you sit in the stations all day, just like you (if you were some kind of evil dictator) dont just march into a country, sit down and say "right lads this countrys mine now"
An alliance/corp only truely claims a region when I cant just get in a ship and take a wander through the middle of the 'claimed' space without being dealt with swiftly and decisivly by said corp/alliance. People use the term claimed far too often.
Take a look at the alliance map, find a region thats not marked out, or even one assigned to some weak & pointless alliance, gather your corp, buy a pos or 2, find a system and go claim it for yourself. As long as your prepared to fight for it thers no reason why you cant. ----- Move along, nothign to see here... |

you need to be in an alliance for sovreignty, but a pvp corp has no problems going in and killing people and becoming feared. people should stop complaining when 1005 industrial corps cant get in though. --------------

1st step would be to prepare your corp. Make sure you have the bookmarks of the region you intend to go to. Look at who all live in the area, decide who you might wanna be friends with, who you think you can handle as enemies.
First regions to look to are probably 0.0 regios with NPC stations. Much easier on the corp wallet and no dreadfleet coming to pound you out of existence. Regions such as Stain would be a prime candidate.
Then all the corp members move out to the region and to the designated system/NPC station. Make sure to have a supply line to empire, and see if you can build stuff yourself with some BPOs you bring with you. Sit in a system long enough, and defend it against hostiles while making friends with some (you probably can't survive with everyone in the area shooting at you).
Start ratting and mining and building up reserves for any serious conflict coming your way. Having a carrier or two to ferry supplies to and from lowsec empire would be good. You'd also want to have a few out of corp alts to deal with wardecs. Once you live in 0.0, any remaining people in Empire are easy targets for wardecs, since the bulk of your fighting force will be in 0.0.
With a bit of luck and some diplomacy you can come to a working relationship with neighbours, and/or weed out particularly hostile or ineffective corps so you can strengthen your hold on an area. Make sure to train your pilots in PvP and always be alert for hostiles knocking on your door, so you can either fight or flee whatever you feel up to.
Once you're big enough as a corp, or when you join an alliance or form one yourself, you can start working on getting your own space and stop living from NPC stations. But by that time you'll need a lot of people, good logistics and enough PvP ability to fight off intruders.
At least, that's what I would do if I were an empire based corp with 0.0 ambitions

No space, not even BoB space, is "perfectly" held. (some idiots think this means there are no valid claims....)
Game mechanics make perfectly held space impossible.
But in the more firmly help space, don't expect to have an easy time operating. In fact, don't expect to be able to do much NPCing or mining at all.
In less firmly held space, in the less popular systems, its often very quiet.
If you want to operate in the most profitable areas, or even most "above average" areas, you'll need to fight for the right, or convince those who do hold it that you are a worth while addition to their their team.
But anywhere in 0.0, you need to "expect" hostile visitors at literially any moment, or you will die. And you might die anyway.

Bassicly if you have some aspirations of settling somewere and then living peacefully forget about it ..
If your prepeared to endlessly fight and dodge everyone and hardly peek your precious head out then you can manage and mark the word manage beacuse there will always be someone bigger knocking at your door or one day even taking down your POS ...
most people in alliances do enjoy the quite life but when all hell brakes loss they will have to move along or fight for every inch ..
That is how it works is there any space that is unclaimed considering you will have a hell of a time getting back to empire betwen all that betwen you and empire yes there are such places .. will you be unbothered never .. 0.0 is no easy task you either come in guns blazing or you perish to the ones that have been doing it for a much longer time .. Give up your dreams join a small alliance that have 0.0 space but are so small on the radar that the big boys wont even mess with you ..

There seems to be a general misunderstanding: Many means to get into 0.0 doesn't require you to defeat an alliance with 800 people or more and take their space.
Ok, if you want to go into deep alliance claimed 0.0 with valuable ore, you usually need to make an arrangement with an alliance or join one, but there are also places in 0.0, where smaller corps can find a home. Depends on what you prefer, your abilities and numbers and your diplomatic skills. Friendships means a lot also in 0.0. Quite a difference, if everyone wants to kill you or if you can just wave to some campers with their bubbles and slow boat to the gate. So try to make friends and avoid to **** of everyone, except you know what you are doing.

It is widely known that many alliances "claim" areas larger than they need and can cover, but they claim them none the less and you will need to wrestle it out of their control.
Unless of course you choose to do it the diplomatic way.

Nothing in life is free.
There are, however, a great many alliances that hold onto their chunk of space by armed conflict on a regular basis. Many times these alliancs will be glad to have more friendlies operating in their area and be perfectly willing to negotiate positive standings.
Doing this means their enemies will be your enemies, but it also means that you just cut in half the number of people who you need to shoot at. Now you will have access to better information as other corps report locations of shared hostiles, better isk (mining/ratting opportunities), and a more controlled set of hostiles. You are unlikely to have a bunch of dreads show up on your doorstep, because the original alliance you negotiated with should be the one that is the dominant one for this region. Generally speaking, the only folks who gank POSs in an area are the ones that claim to own it.
If you just want to carebear and avoid combat, then your only path to 0.0 is to join an existing industrial alliance. But if you're willing to fight, your options are a lot wider.

First, run a small POS in lo sec space in Empire for a few weeks. Get used to fueling it and getting supplies to it. Go ratting in your low sec system. Genesis is full of low sec systems (for example). As a previous poster mentioned, you will need instas for you and your corpmates in the region you operate in - you can buy them or make your own for only the systems you need. Practice making safespots, and inline scanning safespots near the gates.
Your next step is to tear everything down, and choose from the following options:
Join ISS - easy to get in, some very good advice for noob corps to start operating in 0.0 and they have a few regions which they operate in, with many local Alliances as blue. The security channels or useful as well.
Pick a spot and setup a POS there, without joining an Alliance or telling/asking anyone. This carries 3 risks. 1) You get popped on the way to setup, or generally die at gatecamps to home all the time 2) An Alliance takes offense and takes down your puny tower 3) You can't resupply the POS, and it goes offline and/or you lose it. So, this option carries a lot of risk ISK-wise, but many corps have done this successfully. If you choose a system which is not great, you may not be bothered at all except for roaming gank squads. Make local friends! Use the experience you gained by running a low sec POS. Ratting will pay for the fuel, but you will have to haul it in. No alliance holds permanent gatecamps on routes to their systems, but they usually have scouts to alert them of incoming folks, and they might hunt you down.
Last option is to join an Alliance. TBH I have found them all to arrogant folks who will not even talk to you, and if they do, and you don't have capital ships or 50 pvp folks, tell you to go fly a kite. These same alliances will tell the public they hold xx region(s). They don't. They might also have you go under their wing as a "sponsor" corp and ask you to pay massive amounts of ISK - 700 mil a week was quoted to me once. I laughed in his face and closed that chat.
Regardless of constellation sovereignty, if it ever comes, Alliances will still "hold" vast swathes of space with very little actual claim, but they won't hesitate to shoot on sight. Until game mechanics change to the point where alliances are FORCED to make an effort to claim space, you're stuck with some unsavory options. Do step 1, and see how it feels. Finally...
Get a group of friends (10+) and arm for pvp in some big ships, drop some ratting mods in cargo. Fly to an ISS outpost, refit, and go ratting in 2-3 groups. Keep an eye on local. Do this for a week, the the attraction of moving to 0.0 might wear off :)

If you're less concerned about OWNING your own space and more concerned about being able to operate in 0.0, there are many systems in many regions that are owned by NPC organizations. Most of the time, it's not worth the effort to dig out a POS in one of these systems. Of course, you're at an increased risk of hostiles showing up, but it's probably fair to say that, at the moment, most of the good systems are claimed AND defended.
Although ... 8 new regions ... Soon(TM).
