Gonna have to agree that removing color as a visual distinction for icons is the right thing to do. Color blindness is a thing that you have to compensate for when making a user interface, at the very least.
I remember at one job I was making a backend interface for describing profits and losses, and I received a complaint from one of the employees that he couldn't tell which numbers were negative and which were positive. Turns out he was colorblind and I had marked positive numbers as green and negative as red. That was a pretty defining moment in my understanding of how people use UIs.
On a more general point GÇö-áI like the new icons. I could immediately intuit which icons were for which function (except the inventory icon, represented by a cube, but since it was the only one, it was pretty obvious what it was anyways.)

Perhaps two sets of icons then, which would be controlled by a in the ESC menu on the "General Settings" tab. "Use monochrome icons": Checked by default. This would meet the needs of those suffering from colorblindness, while providing another option for those who are not and who wish to have colorful icons like before. Options are a good thing. Nah GÇö-áthe new icons are distinct enough without the color. Besides, the old icons didn't have any color distinction. They were all similar shades of blue and green.

Yeah GÇö-áI had similar problems with market, fitting, and people/places. Even after four years of playing I had to pause to make sure I was hitting the right button, and failed more often than I'd prefer to admit.

Grab the right edge of the bar and drag it out. This will increase the size of the icons.

A man is at a stadium watching a baseball game. He is hungry, so he goes to track down some food. He comes across a curious stand with a sign saying "Buddhist Hot Dog Vendor." He walks up to the stand and asks for a hot dog.
The vendor says "okay, that'll be $1.50."
The man hands the vendor two dollar bills and takes his hot dog.
There is a pregnant pause, and then the man asks, "hey, buddy, where's my change?"
The vendor says, "change comes from within."

Claire Gally wrote: Our brain computes colours before shapes (at least, that of normal humans who are not high on crack). Having each icon a distinct colour was helpful to discern what was doing what. Right now, I feel needlessly having to scrutinize the small icons to find the one I want to click on.
That's the thing, though GÇö-áthe old icons didn't have distinct colors. They were all the same shades of blueish green or greenish blue.

Trip report: WASD controls are fun as hell. It definitely needs a chase cam, though.
