In a Dev chat a few months ago TomB said soemthing about removeing all the Unlimited BPC's and compensating the owners that have them.
I ask if any ground has been made in deciding how to do this? I have several Unlimited BPC's in my corp that I have refrained from selling because TomB said they were going to be removed. I would like to know when or if this has been scratched.
Personally I want to sell mine but don't want to sell soemthing that the Dev's are going to remove later. So is there any idea of how long I need to hang onto these or can I just sell them now?
A response from TomB would be nice BTW.

it was asked in a later CSM and TomB confirmed they were joking about removing them . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

CCP should just set all the current unlimited copies to max runs and they die out slowly

Edited by: Will McBlack on 18/10/2003 15:49:37 I know what would happen when the above was done ... But people may have to get used to that idea, dont they? Anyway, I will not reply to this topic as it will become an all-out flame-war. Maybe even delete these 2 posts (just to be sure).

Very good reply Redundancy :)
Personaly I cant see why we cant make unlimited copies anymore.
I meen you can make an unlimited number of copies from an original so why limit the number of runs on the copy.
Im all for it being possible to make it limited tho.

Redundancy, I have no problem giving up my unlimited BPC as long as I got compensated fairly. I would like to think that others would not complain either but your prolly right. There are a bunch of snivelin morons out there that will complain about anything. So are you saying im free to go ahead and sell these? I also remember seeing a post about issuing warnings those selling Unlimited BPC's. Spelling corrections welcome, but don't expect me to edit my post. |

Well, as an owner of a few unlimted BP copies and have paid well for them, I do have a suggestion. If you want to rid the game of the unlimited copies, then I suggest replacing them with Original's matching the same effeciency levels they are currently at. That to me would be a fair exchange and would rid the game of those bps for good. My 2 cents.

I seem to recall that someone on the dev team mentioned possible buy-back services for infinite copies. Also that a way to remove them from the game in an amicable way was being researched. And then nothing. Nada. end of story.
So I guess the question is does CCP care about the infintes any more or are they happy to let then remain as they are forever?

I think im just gonna trash all mine. No one seems to want them and I really am tired of them sitting in my hanger.
I did get a offer for a crazy price, may was well just given them to him for free. Too bad im a jerk and would rather trash them than give for a very unreasonable price, ie less than 25% of the origional price. Spelling corrections welcome, but don't expect me to edit my post. |

Think of all the new battleship original BPs. Even more sellers of limited BPCs isn't what we need.

you are a greedy one. u have probably not paid more then 15-20mill for a lvl3 cruiser bpc and you knew that it is a copy when you bought it. you have probably have it for several months and if they changed all unlimited to maxrun it would be more then fair. ==================

If CCP bought them all @ 50% of the value of an original, it would remove them from the game (as they need to be) but still compensate people for them and they are half way to buying a real bp if they still want one.

Greedy, perhaps, all a point of view. You also assume I have ship bpc's, you assume incorrectly as there are many other items in Eve other than ships, my friend. The unlimited researched BP copies I have now cost me more than the original BP's now available on the market. The mineral requirements for these BPs have also been changed with the last patch, so now these items costs more for me to make. So obviously, I would not be interested in selling these copies for half of the original value, thank you very much. I realize there are many other conditions of sale that do not meet mine, but we are just discussing ideas, are we not?

... The number of people who bought all sorts of ship modules, only to see them nerfed to hell and beyond after one patch or another, can be safely considered to be thousands. Essentially, the developers took away what people had paid for.
What is so different about nerfing the blueprint copies to limited-run versions, that it cannot be done?
If nerfing ship equipment could be done under the label of balancing, nerf the BP copies and call that balancing the market or whatever *shrugs*

I think 25% would be a more reasonable price, as the going price of unlimited BPCs before the patch was 25% of original value.
Either way, something needs to be done about the unlimited BP copies in the game. They are simply killing the cruiser market, and they're not helping the battleship market either.
With the current way limited copies are working and the limited number of ways a blueprint can be researched, people are effectively being punished for doing things the "right way" and paying 4x for an original what they could have paid for an unlimited copy - Thanks to the unlimited copies in place, owners of originals have almost no advantage over owners of mere copies.
Actually, at this point, I don't think there should be any problem with simply removing the copies from the game outright, with the simple rationale that enough time has passed since the introduction of limited-run copies that any unlimited copies have more than paid for themselves by now at a value of 25% of the price of an original. ------------ Ezra Cornell pe0n, Xanadu Corporation |

Just leave the unlimited copies alone.. Most of them will die a death once tech 2 is established and people move onwards. Ok some bpc's will still be useful but people will be making more money off the tech 2 and upwards items by then

I dont get it, whats the problem with them?
There is a very finite number of them out there, if left in the game they will simply become relics of an old age, most dedicated corps will sooner or later upgrade their unlimited copies to become originals, at that time they will ither give them to friends or sell them to new corps who consider them a good investment untill they too can buy originals...
They are a part of the game and honestly I cant see what the problem with alowing them to stay in is.
Yes my corp owns 3 unlimited cruiser BP copies, I would hate to see them turned into limited copies as we have payed for unlimited but If we were compensated with a fair price I could give them upp.
Turning them into limited copies however would be like robbing us, Im not hearing people with originals complaing that originals can make an unlimited number of copies.
And yes we have quite a few originals as well.

Basic and Tech I BPCs will be irrelevent soon enough. An unlimited BPC is a static thing that can't be researched and will likely be orphaned by changes in technology. Right now they were and still are handy investments, especially in commonly used and bought cruisers like the Thorax and Blackbird. But they are no longer a threat economically, as they are in limited supply and represent current, but certainly not cutting edge technology.

Personal Opinion follows...
It is my personal opinion that you would never work out a system of recompense that would satisfy people in exchange, and you can't simply take them away because it would be seen very negatively (and not just by people that own them).
Reducing the power of items is different, because you're always leaving people with the same item, and have very few options for dealing with an overpowered item other than rebalancing it so that it doesn't disrupt gameplay. Adjusting everything else upwards is more work and essentially exactly the same effect.
When tech level 2 is introduced, I expect that a large number of items are going to become fairly redundant, meaning that they're going to be reduced anyway in terms of their effective demand, yet can still provide that rather diverse bottom level of supply of the most basic items in the game.
My opinion is that there's no particular reason to do anything further to the blueprints when it would undoubtably be unpopular and probably unfair, when in the light of the eventual introduction of tech 2,it is probably unnessecary.

Tell me one reason why (in the current system) a corp would even think of buying an original for an item such as a cruiser when they already have an unlimited copy. (The exception is battleships, where the price of megacyte has pretty much killed everything but BYOM and more importantly licensing deals. But for cruisers and below, licensing is not a popular technique and hence an original has no advantage.) ------------ Ezra Cornell pe0n, Xanadu Corporation |

True, short of the most megacyte expensive BP's and then only if the mineral efficency on it is very low, I can not see any reason for upgrading the copies but what is the problem?
As we ahve all seen tech II is slowly seeping into the game, hopefully we will soon see the first tech II frigs, after that the tech II cruisers and then my friend those unlimited cruiser BP's will become irrelevant.
Who would want to fly a Thorax if you could fly a tech II cruiser, a cruiser that has a new design (I hope) and is superior to the thorax in every way.
So the race will start all over, a fortunate few get their hand on the new BP's, hopefully a BP copy recearched out of an original, dropped by a pirate or aquired in an agent mission, soon the tech II cruisers will become more common and then most players will upgrade all their ships to tech II, unlimited tech I copies become sidelined and forgotten as the demand for the products drop to almost 0.
So again, whats the problem with them, what problem do they cause? So there are a few more manufacturers on the market... lets face it most players still buy their cruisers, its too much of a hassle to mine the mega and zyd needed.

Edited by: GraveDigger on 24/10/2003 06:58:52 I think they should all be removed from the game. if they were, more owners of originals would build ships, instead of making limited run copys. there would be less ship builders, price of ships would go up, and become more profitable to build ship instead of 1 run copys. just my .02
