This is the most stupid argument ever. So you're saying that it gives you a certain lvl of satisfaction when ppl lose 500k (lol) worth of drones after they log?? I agree logging is bad (I hate it just as much as you), but not fixing current drone behavior because of that reason is stupid.
It's like saying "if ppl log off they should automatically have all their ammo dumped in space"...

Actually your idea abt ammo being dumped is pretty good tbh - would stop logon traps/ loging off in enemy territory.
The problem is that CCP can't prove if you CTD'ed or if you logged off. If they could, a certain corp would score a few less kills

I agree also. Who in the recent week or so with all these disconnects hasn't lost multiple drones. A whole playing style had to change due to the possible loss of mining/combat drones.
Please at least give as 'drones in remote space' controll option. Warp back in, they are still flagged as your drones (green star), give us control again!
No wonder ppl can charge so much for T2 drones, I'm sure the sellers are dev's who know ppl will be loosin' them due to disconnects

/signed 3 days late because I only saw it now.
Every time I ctd, no matter where I am, I'm pretty much useless until I can go get more drones. If I'm in 0.0 I'm screwed. I think the people who would exploit this by logging off in or just before combat would do it anyway.

I agree, atleast give back control of drones when you come back in drone control range.
Simply keep the drones under the distant space tab and allow you to regain control when you come in range. A possible bonus feature would be to allow you to warp in on your drones in distant space.

I saw this thread a bit late, but it has been a hot topic with all Drone Specialists for a long time! It would be greatly appreciated to regain control of your drones when you log back into the game.
For normal drones, maybe you could right click on each drone in space (once you get within your drone control range), and have an option like "reactivate drone"?
For Fighters, they should show up on your Overview's "Distant Drones" pulldown as "Idle". You could then issue the command for them to fly back to your Carrier. This would eliminate the problem with them following your ship to the 1,000,000km logoff position and getting stuck there.
If this long time problem got fixed, I imagine the number of pilots that would be overjoyed would number in the tens of thousands! In one fell swoop CCP could make a lot of their paying customers very happy!

thats why i dont fly any drone based ship. sometimes it happens that i loose connection 3 times in 2 hours (ok sometimes eve chrashes too )!!!
but dont ask me if its logic that when a ship warps away, after a period of time the remaining drones should be back in ur bay, cause then i must say no it isn`t.
but after u reloged it would really really helpful if u get drone controll back instantly, without scooping them to ur drone bay.

As a carrier pilot I've complained about this on the forums plenty enough, so /signed.
Luckily I learned about this quirk last winter when I was first trying out a Carrier on the test server.

Seems I've jinxed myself.
System crashed while I was in my carrier recalling fighters. When I got back in game, I was missing a fighter (seems the others got inside). I BMed the point right where I logged in immediately, but the fighter wasn't there either. Great.
I heard something about them showing back up after downtime. Guess I'll have to find out.

i think it should work when warping out and back in too tbh, its not that overpowered and since there are battleships that relies on drones they should be controllable again if they warp out and back in.
perhaps a timer for regaining control once in control range, 20-40 seconds? long enough for the drones to be threatened, but short enough so you can start fighting again without being helpless and loose them all because you crashed.
