I have to add my support to this since I brought it up independently in a completely different thread. With the lack of any effective mechanism for early communication of feedback from the devs on important matters - no, dev blogs don't count as early - keeping track of their posts is an important way to stay up to date.
That said, there has been an increase in some devs using the forum socially, which is of course fine. But I think they'd be hard pressed to disagree that the gold bar still needs to appear on the threads they post in, when not making posts of importance to the community. That's the whole point of highlighting the thread in the first place.
It's just a forum mechanics issue. Thankfully we have EVE Search which makes sifting through dev posts much faster, but it still feels like sifting through the spam in my inbox every morning when I try to find posts of importance. Pass the idea on to the forum maintainers.

"Separating the wheat from the chaff" is a good thing.
It was really annoying to go to the Dev tracker thread on the CoH forums and find that more than half of that day's Dev posts were in the forum games section.
or finding a "real" thread with a Dev post, only to find the Dev trying to make a funny with an off the wall comment or a quote from some anime, that half the forum population understood, and the other half thought was a flame against the OP...

From a casual-forum-browser-trying-to-keep-up perspective (ie, not mine), it'd be neat if the Devs had a "Gold Bar" account for official work and a "non-gold-bar" account for socialising. Nobody's saying devs shouldn't post when they're bored or whatever, but it's already been acknowledged by various CCP types (can't remember exactly where atm) that it's pretty hard for people who don't read the forums religiously to keep up with what's been announced here. The gold bars used to make this easier because you could at least see which thread a dev had posted in (gold bars round the page numbers would help even more), but now, not so much, because 50% or so of "gold bar" posts don't contain anything that you'd want to dig through ten pages to read, if you'll excuse me saying so. Just an (early-morning) thought.

We are people too, we have the right to post on the forums just like you, whether it's "important" or not is irrelevant, we could just not post on the forums at all. At least when we post silly little comments it shows that there is really a person on the other end, not just some scripted bot with standard replies.
w00t! My first time being quoted by a dev! And I tricked you into doing it! Love you guys!

no no this is why I brought this up, I love the fact the devs post NORMAL posts as well as informative posts... I just think you guys should have a tool that gives you the choice to mark or not mark a thread, so if you post something with information you can flag it, but if its just chatter, you can choose not to mark it...
i'd say - game mechanic/development related posts by a dev should marked with a goldbar ... chitchat posts by devs should be marked with a pink bar ... because we all know pink stuff is sexeh ... ___________________

To the OP: Good suggestion. Although the link provided by another poster suffices to find all of the devs posts and allows you to preview them, it really doesn't invalidate your request. Myself, I have always used the outside source to review dev posts.
I think what is more significant is the fact that your post also recognizes that the devs have feelings that can be influenced by the tenor of the posts we make. The recent level of hostility shown by the newer members of our community and some of the "special" older members could cause a rift between the devs and the player base. This is why I appreciate the OP's post. It lacks any of the meanness that might cause that to happen.
Good luck w/ your gold bars bro.

Man you guys are really rough on the Devs, seems most gaming forum communities are. I just got reading a post on the NWN2 forums with complaining about the Devs post, now here too. I think a lot of you guys have a short memory about forums, there was a time not to long ago when a game like this was out there were no forums at all and if there was Devs never posted on them as part of the rules of the company. Now you guys get to chit chat with the very people that are making the game and you ***** about it.
If I was a DEV at CCP at this point I would be making list of the whiners and make it a point never to reply to anyone that whines on the forums period. Are you are gamer? www.playhardliveeasy.blogspot.com |

you gotta admit some of the dev posts arent very profesional and imply the devs are a bunch of drunks who just drink alchohol all day. personally i dont want to look at a topic because it has a gold bar to find its just some post about getting drunk , alot of people who arent even old enough to drink play this game aswell.
if you want to make personal comments fine but maybe it would be a good idea to do it under a character that is not representing CCP.

One of the problems is that Devs dont answer some more important posts that are about game mechanics, certain ship types and such.

Good suggestion actually. I'll make sure I'll put it into the list of things we want done on myeve. Just remember that there is no guarantee this will happen, or if it does, it probably won't be soon.
Now, enough of the dev bashing.
