All the other games I play do not have the number of patches that Eve have. Is it a way that the game designers / prorammers can ensure that they keep themselves employed.

Because some Dev in Iceland said in a meeting, "This player, Orny, doesn't like having to download patches. Why don't we fix a few bugs every day, just so we can annoy Orny by making him download a patch every day." When all the other Devs thought this was a great idea, they then implemented it. EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.
