THEN... as for the frosting on the cake... would that be too much to ask the community?

We've been asking for that on the test server forums weeks before the release, tons of pages and likes, always ignored by CCP. |

Mr Epeen wrote:I would love to see a high resolution option. But I don't think they have the manpower for it. It's a fairly labor intensive project. But what they could do is take a page from Bethesda's playbook and release the code for enthusiast modders to work on. They'd have to put some sort of security on it to stop hacking of the client, but look at what us guys with no life have done with the Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. Some fantastic home made texture pack out there. C'mon CCP. I'm chomping at the bit here. I love modding stuff and would love to have a crack at texturing some of the ships in high resolution. See what you can do. Mr Epeen
They have high-res original files, but they choose to release badly compressed versions to save bandwidth and so that ppl who run EVE on Commodore 64 can play like its 2003
What we have ingame is nothing like the Crucible desktop backgrounds or the nebula trailer they released. In high-sec where the space is colorful it's not so bad but in low sec / 0.0 where we get to see color on black backgrounds, the low-res and the tiled colors jump in our face. Screenshot
So much ruined potential; its like you painted the Mona Lisa, people are paying to see it, but instead of displaying the original you take picture of it with a disposable camera and print it with an ink printer from the 90s and that's what you show, keeping the original in your basement. It's a shame. |

well yes,
its really time to re-push EVE into 2011 again...with usual "standard" quality of textures of this graphic card generation.
or will this definately lead to performace problems in fleetwars? If not, CCP hang on, and give it a high quality option....BEFORE you leave the staff back to WoD ! :-) |

No need for double client (normal and premium), just release "HD patch" with hi res textures as an optional download. And as mentioned before, Capitals looks like craap with present textures.
All effects, postprocessing and other stuff are great... JUST THAT HI-RES TEXTURES.
And as long as EVE is PC/mac only, you dont have restrictions like consoles. Make it best looking game and i bet that EVE would be as an 3D benchmark for gamer magazines (opportunity for EVE advertise/marketing). GÇ£Reality can destroy the dream, why shouldn't the dream destroy reality?GÇ¥ |

The Thanny needs a real texture buff, and more details to make it less of a complete flat pancake! The Nyx might be flat in areas, but there's detail breaking it up to make it more pleasing to look at. |

I would seriously appreciate HD nebulas. Its inevitable that they will go higher res eventually - why not make it available now?
As for the ships, meh Im always zoomed out!

I think my biggest complaint for the longest time regarding textures has been that of the lights on ships. They are blurry and and hardly defined at all. In fact they rather look like ****. I was hoping this would change with the V3 updates to the ships but they really haven't at all. They are still just as crappy looking as ever.
Ultimately yes...higher texture detail for those PC's that can use them. Support our boobies!-áLINKY! |

Doubtful. Earlier in the year, I found a neat plugin that allowed you to use MLAA in any 3D application. I filed a petition inquiring about using it in EVE, and was told it would result in a ban. Too bad! |

I can force MLAA to work just from my graphic card settings. I think the GM you were talking to was uneducated as to what you were talking about, and assumed the blanket "durrr 3rd party app, me ban!" response. |

I think this is a great idea! The high res assets are already there, all CCP has to do is package them up and send them out to the players.
They'll also make fan videos and promo videos look better, so CCP marketing should be behind this idea too
8GB RAM is $35 (!), and most current gen high end GPUs have at least 1.5GB RAM on the GPU alone, so if CCP has high-res models and textures lurking on their content creation servers, release them! |

I think I am going ot say this again - how about this, we let them finish what they have on the table before making NEW demands on things not even in the pipe... or shall we just drop the whole V3 skins to where they are now, leave Time-Dialtion to off on TQ, skip all the balancing of things, and the couple new ship models, and all the rest... and go to HD, yea... this sounds great... then people will *****... HD but the Amarr look like crap, LAG!!!... LAG!!!!... unplayable... whaaa.... Hybreds suck now, or X sucks now... CCP is crap... whaaaa... This is the worst HD game... what do you mean the updates are 800GB!!!... wtf CCP, why can't I patch it like a real game... Whaaaaa.... whaaaa... my ***** hurts... whaaaa I have sand in my ****... whaaaaa...
For godsake people, relax and enjoy what you have... ...and Pinning/Toggle must be restored (paraphrase of Cicero). |

CCP Mannbj+¦rn wrote:As Torfi has mentioned before we are discussing the possibility of making optional downloads a reality. If we can make that happen and you have a graphics card that can handle it, then why not? There is more to it for us than just making the art assets available for download. We have to have some way of maintaining and updating optional downloads, plus some handy way for you to select them at your will. Now on the subject of blocking the stars. We have been looking into how to make that a reality and as you see in the video from Fanfest it was our intent from the beginning. Unfortunately things don't always go as planned. Because of the compression artifact that you get in some of the textures now, we would like to explore some better ways of storing them, and also the possibility of optional high quality downloads. Until we know for sure that the format we have is the best we can come up with without killing performance, we just donGÇÖt want to be pushing nebulae content updates, and new tech to support it, over and over again to the community. We truly felt that this was a good start for this part of the renovation and we are hoping that we now have something that we can work with in the future and keep raising the quality of your surroundings.

That's great! One MIPMAP level more would mean 4 times the texture size, but apart from more VRAM use and load on the GPU texture units it is a rather simple change. The problem seems to be how to manage and update optional content in the client... |
