Originally by: Detavi Kade just as I consider GOLF to be pvp, so is mining/manufacturing/production...hell I even consider mission running to be pvp, since it is a form of time/isk conversion. And the faster you can run it, versus someone else, the more buying power you have on the market.
it's an MMO people, where your actions has, albeit a small one, influence on other folks. therefore, it's pretty much 100% pvp. hell even the forums have pvp.
When you describe it like this, EVERYTHING is pvp. Since everything is pvp under this definition, there is no point in describing something as "pvp" since everything is anyway. The distiction becomes meaningless. Every game everywhere would be pvp.

pretty much. some games just try to cover it up with illusions of pve.
mmo = pvp, some are more obvious than others.

Gate camping, especially in 0.0 space, is not griefing. Now that y'all are done arguing the semantics part of things, you should consider the motiviations behind people's actions.
PvP actions can only really be considered griefing if the purpose is to ruin other peoples fun. If they have another purpose, and you suffering a loss of time/isk/ship/fun is a side-effect, then it is not griefing.
Back to the 0.0 gate camp, the purpose is (likely) defense of the system. Are you, the lone pilot, going to reimburse them for ship losses if they suffer a major defeat after letting 30 single ships in, who eventually form a 30 ship fleet to come wipe the gate camp? I'm guessing no.

At the risk of repeating myself: no-one is 'defending' anything. I agree that staring at a gate for hours and occasionally managing to get one shot off before some unsuspecting soul explodes under the fire of 20 ships is boring.
But it is still pvp
