Ok, so I patch day, Eve gets patched.
DvD player starts playing DvD's back with choppy/*****ling sound. I end up doing a system restore back to 11th August (when I knew I had no problems playing DvD's) - all works fine, except Eve which now doesn't work.
I re-install Eve, from scratch downlaoding the full, new version of the client....
DvD play-back is now broken again, with choppy/*****ling sound.
Just what the heck did you guys do?

Edited by: Agnst on 10/09/2006 14:55:04 I dont see how the two can be possibly related.
Unless you run EvE at the same time as you are watching a movie?
If thats the case use the task manager to set the priority of the DVD application to Above Normal, that should remove any of the stuttering.
EDIT: Oh hey, same alliance.

I'm sorry, but the EVE installation doesn't alter any drivers or settings to do with the DVD drive. ____________________________

Nothing to do with running Eve and movies at the same time.
Eve gets patched, my DvD player stops playing back correctly. I do a system restore and its fine again, that is, until I re-install Eve which ****s the whole thing up again.
So I've rolled back my system again, hey presto, DvD player is fine, Eve is once again not working. I'm pretty sure that if I install Eve again the same thing will happen...

I have to go with coldplasma then, EVE does not and has no reason to touch any DVD driver.

Edited by: Maximillion Carter on 10/09/2006 15:20:32 The Eve install /patches only ever alter information in the main EVE install directory, usually \Program Files\CCP\EVE.
Can't see how it could ever effect drivers in your windows directory

Edited by: Gabriel Karade on 10/09/2006 15:43:47 Look I know it sounds nuts but that's what is happening. I have Eve installed on the D: partition, keeping C: strictly for windows.
Even today, I've been watching a DvD, I install the new client and *bang* I get the same issues with the sound being fubared on DvD playback.
Role back system to before the Eve patch day and the sound is fine again. ----------

you must have installed something else between eve patch day now.
why do you need to use a system restore point? why cant you just uninstall eve? is it because that doesnt fix it? only going to the restore point before the patch day does?
run starforce uninstall tool thats notorious for causing problems with dvd drives. it doesnt come with eve though

Starforce on your system???
Right Click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager > View [Show Hidden Devices] > Non Plug And PLay Devices > Look for any Starforce related entries

Edited by: Gabriel Karade on 10/09/2006 16:04:14 I've had a look through for starforce in the device manager, it doesn't appear to be there.
I orginally did a system restore because I had no idea what was causing the problem, and that did infact fix it.
It was when I re-installed the 4561 Eve client afterwards (nothing else was installed, and no restarts were involved) that the sound problems returned. ----------

It's not just you, I'm getting the same trouble with music playback when running EVE, never had the trouble before the last patch, cant think what the hell causes it though.

EVE got a lot of revamped network code, including a new encryption procedure.
Maybe the problem comes from EVE and your DVD player trying to use the functions at the same time? --*=*=*--

It's funny how many people are replying to this post without reading it. If you guys would take a moment and clearly read what the OP is saying you would realize something is wierd. Here let me make it as simple as possible:
1. DVD's play fine. 2. Install new EVE patch. 3. DVD's borked.
I'm sorry I don't have any information on why the EVE patch would bork up your DVD but I do believe you based on what you've said.

Just to clarify, is the DVD playback borked while you are playing Eve, or just generally borked after installing Eve?

sorry, but I run Eve on 5 different PC's depending on where I am, and each has differnet hardware, and various brands of dvd+-rw drives, without any issues ever.
I would have to say it is a setup/config of your system cauisng the issue.
try this, remove the current dvd player, install another, and repeat the test steps you have already taken. If it is the same, it has nothing to do with the dvd player or eve and is a system issue (as it was said a few times, eve doesn't alter drivers or system config's, I run eve off a COPIED directory and manualy patch each one as needed)
now for the cynical view; ALL users have a bad habit of swearing they did not install or download 'bad' stuff that caused teh issues they discribe, only for the truth to come out and they somehow "forgot" they had...

Yeah just to clarify, I'm not trying to play a DvD whilst playing Eve, infact I've just nuked my last install of Eve (again).
It is really is weird, I restored my system last night, DvD's playing fine again (Yay!). Installed Eve again this afternoon. Logged in briefly to change a skill, logged off again, tried a DvD and the exact same sound problem as before had returned. Did a restore about an hour ago, and DvD playback is fine again (no Eve client installed on my machine at the moment).
I would never have thought it was Eve, but that is the only thing that changed between doing a restore, playing a DvD that worked, then having the sound borked again.
This really has me at a loss to explain. I'll probably try installing Eve again later but I fully expect the same thing to happen since it's happened twice already ----------

When I first encountered the problem I tried re-installing PowerDvD - no change, tried installing InterActual player - same problem, also tried cleaning the lens (hey it was worth a try).
I'll try installing the Eve Client again later, but you have to remember all I did between restoring my system to an earlier point, installing Eve and finding the sound borked again was to watch a DvD... ----------

ok back to the simple things; are you using the same file each time to install eve???? have you scanned that file with multiple virus scanners?? have you been to 'dodgy sites' or did you download anything prior to the eve installer download??
Did you get the eve installer off a trusted CCP site, or a p2p source??
--------------------------------------------------- eve DOES NOT have anything to do with your dvd player/drivers. --------------------------------------------------- YOU have 'something' on your system, most likely a virus or trojan, that is causing your issue.

Using XP professional. Like I said, after the restore watched a DvD no problems, re-installed Eve (full new 4561 client), tried watching a DvD after briefly using Eve - problem had returned.
All I can do is try it again once I've downloaded the client again (downloading from the 'Eve client' link from the main page.
And no, no dodgey sites have been involved

Edited by: Too Kind on 10/09/2006 16:41:30 If the EVE installation effects your player, although it's not running, the only thing I can think of is a problem with a dll. Like EVE installs and loads a newer version and that the dvd player uses too and doesn't like. But normally that shouldn't happen. A bit strange.

Seems like CCP got something wrong this time too. I dont have any problems but i do remember the thread where a guy had whole catalogs removed after he uninstalled EVE, once again "EVE never touches anything it shouldnt". Next thing you know a guy proves that the installer was buggy.
Just telling you people so you know that maybe, just maybe, something is wrong. Since he has clearly tried it many times with the same result it seems like maybe EVE is updating some DLLs that the DVD player is using aswell or something along those lines.

No I meant if you reinstall Eve, do not start it up but try watching a DVD first do you get choppy sound?
I had a similar problem, only after playing Eve that newer sound drivers fixed.

it is also wise to install eve to a different path then the old one, incase it is a bad area on the hdd corrupting a file (redownload the installer also)
