Greetings fellow scientists and archeologists.
I would like to share my conclusions regarding several years of researching terran databases located in sleeper facilities. Notably what I am about to show you I would have second guesses about for lack of feasibility, but the appearance of Sleeper assets in known space behooves a bit of urgency to avoid taking unnecessary chances.
I have pieced together what I think is a warning from the past. It's possible that our ancestors may have been under the oppression of a powerful surveillance system that was capable of reading minds and remotely tracking behavior.
Given the pattern of recurrence of the mention of this system, I think this is the time of the year, give or take a few days, that this system becomes active. This means that some means of enabling or starting it might surface and the sleepers might be carrying this technology.
Whatever you do, if you find any equipment that might appear to have something to do with my report DO NOT ACTIVATE IT.
The warning is thus:
Quote: You better watch out, You better not cry, You better not pout, I'm telling you why: Santa Claus is coming to town!
He's making a list, And checking it twice, Gonna find out who's naughty or nice. Santa Claus is coming to town! He sees you when you're sleeping, He knows when you're awake. He knows when you've been bad or good, So be good for goodness sake!
OH!...You better watch out, You better not cry You better not pout, I'm Telling you why. Santa Claus is coming to town.
He sees you when you're sleeping, He knows when you're awake. He knows when you've been bad or good, So be good for goodness sake!
OH!...You better watch out, You better not cry You better not pout, I'm Telling you why. Santa Claus is coming to town.
Allow me to decipher this warning.
First it comes in a rhyming manner that suggest it was to be committed to memory, possible for people at a young age. We have many "sayings" throughout the various cultures working to this effect. Let's start with the actual "order" of the warning that comes in paragraphs 1, 3, and 5.
Quote: You better watch out, You better not cry, You better not pout, I'm telling you why: Santa Claus is coming to town!
OH!...You better watch out, You better not cry You better not pout, I'm Telling you why. Santa Claus is coming to town.
OH!...You better watch out, You better not cry You better not pout, I'm Telling you why. Santa Claus is coming to town.
It would appear that some authoritarian system was afoot, the nature of which was to regulate human behavior. Look carefully at this reference to a "Santa Claus". This might be an ancient spelling to "clause" which might be based on a "law". Even to this day we name systems derived from passages of laws along the lines of the law itself. This law might be "santa" and could have been some form of legislation or a "clause" to existing legislation regarding behavior. Note also the "coming to town" reference. We might at times say things like "I really went to town on that cargo of spirits and dancers" and this "coming to town" might mean that this system either had locational enforcement (had to be there to be in effect) or worse, that it would "go to town" on people who violated the clause.
I think this was a surveillance system because of the rather frightening 2 and 4th versus:
Quote:
He's making a list, And checking it twice, Gonna find out who's naughty or nice. Santa Claus is coming to town! He sees you when you're sleeping, He knows when you're awake. He knows when you've been bad or good, So be good for goodness sake!
He sees you when you're sleeping, He knows when you're awake. He knows when you've been bad or good, So be good for goodness sake!
There is not much more I can say regarding the horror of a system that knows enough about the status of your brainwave patterns to "see" you when you are sleeping or awake, and even worse, if you have been bad or good. For who is to decide what bad or good really is? (Such a concept is alien in the Federation by the way but even the Amarr still grate on definitions in spite of the many theologians on the subject).
The ancient pattern is thus: around this time of year a surveillance system would make it's rounds or sorties and enact some kind of actions on people who, constantly under observation by this system, have differing results based on how bad or good they were, whatever or whoever was determining that.
As for the "actions" - I'm not sure. Further bits and pieces floating about the term "santa" bears reference to "stockings". This part could have been left out of the rhyme, for this might have been too scary for kids. "Stockings" may be derived from "Stockade" which is a military term for "prison". The term "stocks" also appears in reference to punishment. So people who were deemed "bad" by this brain-scanning surveillance morality(?) control system would be put into prison by enforcement actions once a year. This I think is the best description of what actually happens, but considering the implications of this technology, I would not be surprised if further research were to reveal that indeed people who behaved wrongly were "placed into a huge sock" of some kind for further cruelty.
Remember, if you run into any equipment that might serve these ends, DO NOT activate it. Please report it to concerned parties in A'J for further analyses.

I'm no anthropologist, but if there's one thing I've learned over the years, it's that the human race is a deeply weird and varied thing, and that any literal reading of what could be pop-culture or folklore is likely to miss the point entirely.
For all you know, this could be a jaunty song about a jolly fat man who flies around rewarding well-behaved children, or something equally bizarre. Maker knows, we had stories at least that weird when I was growing up to try and keep us in line.

Suvee had one about an executive with a team of jolly Achuran helpers who would throw badly behaved children out of the corporate enclaves if they weren't grateful for all the benefits of corporate life.
"You let one of them go, but that's nothing new is it? Every now and then a little victim is allowed to escape; because she smiled, because he's got freckles, because they begged. And that's how you live with yourself. That's how you slaughter millions."

In Wiyrkomi, we had a story where a diminutive worker would sit on a shelf and run performance evaluations on the staff and if you scored highly, you would get a year-end bonus. If you didn't, you'd get transferred to Deep Core Mining. |

Clan Elder used to tell us tales about a red beast which comes down from the mountains during the winter solstice to gobble up all the smoked lamb from the larder and all the lighting sources from the house commons.
I asked if that was why the guards on the walls were always doubled during winter. He just laughed.

Quite sure this is the sole reason the Federation were so quick to befriend the Minmatar. Surely Gutter Press can reveal the truth. |
