Edited by: Csilkk on 10/09/2006 19:53:36 Hey
Using a Ferox - 5 hvy missle, 2-200mm rails (cant put 250s on)
3 large shield extenders / 2 invul fields 2 PDU 1 BCS 1 Shield relay
3 drones (2 med, 1 light)
I am getting beat up on these missions - been taken down to armor and if not careful or warp, strucutre.
I am using thunderbolts hvy missiles (em damg against Sansha nation).
any suggestions?
The sentry towers are tough but its the small frigs as well that I cant hit / take forever to kill.

Other than that, continue reading:
Setup: 5x heavy missiles 2x medium nos
3x large shield extender 1x EM field 1x thermal field
4x shield power relay
5x drones (any kind)
---------------------
Strategy:
1. Warp in, add bookmark, warp out, and warp back at long range. 2. Approach one group at a time 3. Turn around and fly away from the group(s)

5 heavies, 2 200 mm 2 LSE 2, 1 em hardener, 1 invuln or thermal (your choice), 1 booster 3 pds, 1 bcu
best drone load you can (thermal, they'll hurt sansha more than em)
Strategy: Walk in, kill stuff, rinse, repeat. The only place you should have issues at all is with the multiple platforms. Kill the heavy missile platforms, then the frigs, then the rest of the platforms, leaving the webber platforms for last. Run the booster whenever your shield gets below 35%.
Once you've got higher skills, you'll be able to run it without a booster. I run a 3 module tank (2 lse 2, 1 invuln 2) on BC 4 in there, so it's definitely doable. If you just can't hurt the frigs, juggle your tank to free up one slot for a painter.

Edited by: Krin Malatai on 11/09/2006 06:43:52 Hey Csilkk, I've just discovered the joys of Smartbombs! Keep your heavies and replace the rails with SBs, but only if the rats get within 5km of you. If the rats stay in range, turn on the SBs and ignore them till they blow. If they don't stay that close, replace the SBs with 125's and the BCS with a Tracking Mod. Manage your tank closely. BTW, try Mids 1 large Shield Booster 1 Booster Amp (JOY!) 1 large Shield Extender 1 Invuln Field 1 Specific Shield Hardener Lows 2 PDU 1 BCS 1 Damage Control (~50% Resistances on structure gives you time to bug out if needed)
This is a CPU intensive setup, but work well if you can fit it. Good Luck! . . . The Government's primary function is protecting the rights of each of its Citizens. The Citizen's rights end at impinging on another Citizen's rights. . . . |

Ran this mission yesterday...
5x Limos Heavy Launchers, 1x 150mm Prototype Rail, 1x Tractor - 3x Regolith Large extenders, 2x named hardeners (EM/Themal) - 3x Shield Relays (the recharge ones, not sure of name) 1x BCU - 2x Med drones 1x Light drone
You'll need some skills to fit this. Heavies take care of sentries and larger ships, railgun and drones for the frigs. On some rooms it's really best to get in, bookmark, leave and warp in at range. In the last room, kill overseer and mission done. The other rats keep spawning.

How is mining in this mission? Do the rats respawn rapidly?
I am thinking of mining out the omber in a barge and have a tempest as guard.
BUT my tempest char is suppose to do the hauling. Is it possible or too much of a hassle to leave a barge in the room with no guard?

Edited by: Acarion Sphinx on 11/09/2006 13:05:47 Edited by: Acarion Sphinx on 11/09/2006 13:05:00 Fighting off true power It has already been stated what to use best, but to clarify:
Hi: 5x Hvy Lauchers (best you can fit) (Thunderbolt missiles) 2x whatever feels comfy
Med: 3x Large Shield Extender (best you can fit) 2x Harderers (photon scattering/heat dissipation)
Low: 2x Shield Power Relay 2x Ballistic Control System
Dronebay: 5x Hobgoblin light scout drones (mediums are really slow chasing those friggys)
1. Your tank is depending on your skills with Battlecruiser, Shield Management and Shield Operation, try getting them as high as possible. You have around 10.000 shield HP, make best use of it, try to get as much damage output as you can (another BCS if you can). The sooner you kill off the enemy, the less need for tanking them.
2. Focus fire with missiles and drones. 3. Kill the cruisers at range.
Smartbombs Waste of slots IMHO. The only smartbombs youŠll have use for is large ones, at stage 4, where you have 10 intys orbiting just outside 4000 meters. All other Frigs are orbing out of range for smartbombs.
Mining out the omber 1. Is there omber in massive attack? 2. Getting a barge or hauler in here isnŠt the best idea, everything respawns rather quickly.

Somewhat OT, but I've done this a few times in a Jag. Just in case it's useful to somebody, if you lead the ships beyond the 20k range of the stasis towers in the second pocket and take them out, the towers no longer web. At least that's been their behavior all three times I've done it.
It hurts quite a bit while I'm getting out of web range though, even with 75 EM resistance.
The third pocket is still rough, but manageable if I lead the frigates away from the bigger ships.
This mission is one of the L3s that seems more worthwhile to loot. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Has anybody gotten any loot out of the overseer's storage yet? Ran it twice yesterday-nothing.

I've only bothered to go into the overseer's stash 3 times and I've never gotten anything from the stash. Never even gotten anything decent off the captain in there.

Do the types of Rats vary in these missions? I did it in a Brutix pretty easily, with 5 med rails and 2 smalls set up to shoot to about 25km. As soon as you enter the last area point yourself away from the mission area and afterburn away.
Half the mission area will give chase, the frigs and interceptors will catch up first but will die before they get in range to do too much.
Then just keep slowing your speed to let others get into firing range one by one, last time I did this mission they barely got through my shields, let alone force me to turn my armor rep on.
They were all Gallente ships though with limited range, if they had been firing missiles at me I think it would have been a different story.
Plus I did end up about 150km away from the Overseer, takes a while to get back

You could put one invul field at least. :) I am doing fine even with 1 shield extender in most missions, max i use is 3 if i don't have to cover all 4 resistances. With 4 shield power relays you are still capable of using non stop an invul field and fire 2x250 rails. _______ Cheers! |

The rats / initial starting conditions are always the same on each stage of the mission. The Sansha Massive Attack would probably be easier in a Brutix because the (incoming) damage is mostly EM / thermal to which the OP's Ferox is most vulnerable.
When I do this mission in a Ferox I use a single (T2) large extender with 2 active hardeners (1 thermal and 1 EM, both T1) other mids are a fleeting webber and tracking computer. Low slots 2 T2 PDS and 2 T2 MFS
Offensively, I use 5 250mm rails, 2 assault launchers and a squad of hobgoblin drones and so my method is geared towards this 'Railox' setup - you do need pretty good gunnery skills though.
The 3rd stage is the hardest part as the warp-in point lands you right in amongst a group of frigs and inties: the easy way to do this stage is to drop a BM at your warp in point, and warp off ASAP. You can then warp back to any distance from the BM and blow the frigates away from the range of your choice.
The harder (but more satisfying) way to do it is to kill the frigate group without warping off. As soon as you get control of your ship pick a warpable object and align on it & keep moving away from the asteroid belt area just in case things go wrong you can instantly warp out. This also has the advantage that by the time you're done with the frigate group you'll be at a nice range to pick off the Sansha Demon and Berserkers (plus it reduces graphics lag if you have a slow old PC like mine)
The trick to this is to know what your target priority is in order to reduce the incoming DPS as fast as possible. Don't waste time shooting at stuff your guns won't hit e.g. Centi Loyal Butchers keep a transversal of about 500m/s at 15km which is faster than your guns can track - put your drones and missiles on them first. Concentrate your guns (and web) on the ones you can hit (Devourers and Cannibals are the easy marks).
As soon as your drones finish one target assign them all to the next one - you don't want them picking their own targets because they'll end up on different frigates. Unless something goes badly wrong they are all dead before they can break the passive shield tank, even with just 1 extender (~6900 SP)
On the last stage just target the Overseer and as soon as he's down warp off home to finish the mission.

Just did this mission last night, in a ferox
Highs: 5heavies+2tractor beams Mids: 3LE II, EM active hardener, named invu field Lows: 3 named Shield Power Relays, 1 Named BCU
I was concerned with the third stage. But it was easy as pie. After warp in only 1 group of frigs aggro you. So start flying from the other group, that includes 3 sansha demon, while firing at those that fire at you. I used thunderbolts and 5 hobgoblin I drones.
By the time i was finished with the first group i was roughly 35km from the demon's group. Popped 2 out of 3 demons as they were mwding to me and the rest as they say is history.
Easy, peasy shields never dropped below 55%, and i only have 700k in missile related skills.
By the way i compared dps of 5lights vs 2medium+1light drones in Quickfit. 5 lights come out ahead.
