I'm curious, seeing this thread , what happens in the background? what are those daily 1hr made for, on a supercomputing-clusterific-powercomputer? database repair? what do the ccp worker do at that time, why is sometimes dt longer and sometimes shorter?
please include words like "blades" "cluster" and plenty of acronyms in the reply, we're between geeks after all :p

There are only two possibilites:
1. They rent the server to the local movie studio for an hour each day to act as a render farm, to further pad their pockets.
or
2. CCP is really run by a bunch of space faring mice, and during that hour they use the cluster to boot up Deep Thought II, and feed him all the data they've collected over the last 23 hours from our gaming.
EDIT: Forgot... it's mice, not hamsters.

To the thread title question: Given that the cluster is located in a hosting center in london and the devs operate out of there office in reykjavik, probably not a lot different to usual, barring valar and anyone else who needs to oversee any particular work that day ?
In response to what they do with the actual servers, I believe they use it as a chance to backup data and do the database equivalent of defragmenting (I know almost nothing about databases in reality myself) as well as apply any changes to hardware setups or software that can't be done while the servers are live.
