I've been looking at all of the cruisers in game, tring to find one I'd want to try for PVP.
The Celestis hasn't exactly been a huge PVP ship as far as I know, but I was thinking about possible uses for it, and it's set-up.
High: 2xMed Blaster, 2xMed Nos Mid: 10MN ABII, Scrambler, Webber... and either 2 ECMs or an ECM and a tracking disruper.. Lows: Med armor repper, damage control, explosive hardener
The Celestis with the tech2 AB can get up to 600+, so maybe it'd be able to dodge a lot of fire with the tracking disrupters, while it's main damage would be drones and those two blasters. Any ideas on whether this could work or not? I could see enemy drones being a problem :/

I haven't really ever flown this ship, but I'd try this:
3xRails, 1xLauncher (Whatever fits really) 10mn AB, 20km scram, 2xSensor Damps, Multispec Small Rep, Plate, DCU or Mag Stab
Not sure what exactly you can fit for a plate, but it should do a decent job. Even if you miss a cycle with the ECM the sensor damps will make it so you won't be relocked quickly. Alternatively you could try droping the ECM for something else and using ECM drones.

Hmm... 2 or 3 sensor damps would make most any ships targetting range like 10km with that... with the AB you'd be able to stay out of range at any point, and even if they did get in range with say, a MWD, it'd take 5 years to target you, enough to hopefully get back out of range.
Hmm... interesting idea...
I'll have to crunch some numbers with this.

Celestus is not that great of a PVP ship if your trying to SOLO, its forte is LONG RANGE and you cannot keep someone from warping. It IS however in my oppinion the BEST ship to fly around something you DONT want getting blown up, say like a group of mining barges.
Put in a good AB to make it wicked fast, put in 1 Sensor booster and fill the rest with sensor damps. Just keep the Sensor booster running and you will be able to target and damp out ANYONE and give all the soft targets more than enough time to leave the area. Use heavy missiles (for the longest range) but put in some NOS so that a little frigate cant get lucky and get close enough to hurt you.
The celestus is also good in a small group coupled with a few frigates, I;ve had alot of luck with the frigates shooting for a while and then retreating outside the targets new damped range to prevent ever being locked in the first place (dont forget it takes longer to lock aswell as shorten the range). Make them alternate who is in and who is out so that someone is alwayse warp jamming them.
I DO however believe that there is a Minimum range that each ship class can be reduced too, for example I found it impossible to reduce a BS to less than 15km range but it is very easy to do so and it will take them forever and a day to lock anything that even gets that close.
A celestus with high skills can get a good damper to do in excess of -70% range and lock time.
In short its a good ship but not on its own, locking ships quickly is key to winning to being able to seriously screw up a large # of ships sensors helps.

You have GOT to be kidding me The Celestis (not Celestus) is one of the greatest solo PvP cruisers in the game for BC and smaller targets.
There's an older thread around called [RMR]Celestis something something with some wicked setups for the Celestis (mine being one of them) - Should go check it out

The Celestis is great both as a Solo PvP ship and in fleet/gang use.
For Fleet/Gang:
Highs: use whatever, I use a couple of med nos and rails Mids: 4xRemote Sensor Damps, 1x Sensor Booster Lows: MAR, DCU, CPR Drones: 4xMedium drones, or 8xLight drones for anti-inty/tackler
This is an anti sniper setup. Remote damp 2 or 3 ships at the same time while you are 100km away. The CPR allows you to run the booster and damps pretty much forever. While you're dampening the enemy, it gives your gang/fleet time to blow up the enemy cause they cannot lock you cause their range is shortened, and if they get in range, it takes forever to lock. This is a ship for about less than 10 mil isk total in cost (ship and mods) you can cripple several BS's from being effective.

Edited by: Hex''Caliber on 13/09/2006 00:35:29 Agreed the celestis is a great solo pvp ship and vastly underrated. To make the most of it, fit the biggest med rails your skills will allow and use antimatter ammo with a med diminishing nos and aim to orbit at about 9km. In the mids, use 3 best named (muon) or t2 damps, it will actually cut locking range down to about 6km on most battleships not using sensor boosters and damps work 100% of the time not being chance based. Fit a 20k scram as you do risk getting into locking range using the 7.5km and a Webber or an ab if you prefer. Btw under the current system, any benefit from sensor boosters on the target ship are added after the impact of your damps is taken into account.
You actually donĘt need a great tank, as the idea is, that your damps prevent you taking damage. Consider trying a t2 mar and a couple of magstab's to help reduce the impact of only mounting three rails, and add drones to taste.
The only real downside is that you have to accept you will not have the greatest dps in the game but provided the target is not using any wcs nor has any friends close by he is in real trouble.

It has crap for damage I'll admit, but you can't deny that with Phased Muons and great skills, you can make the locking time and range of even a BS cry. That being said though, can you punch a hole into their hull before they actually do lock you, or maintain cap throughout the engagement? I'm unsure of that, but I've seen it in action with gangs, and it along with the Blackbird is one impressive support ship.
Solo PvP, meh if you're up to it. Gang PvP, hells yes.
