Edited by: Vasco Falcon on 13/09/2006 00:13:32 Edited by: Vasco Falcon on 13/09/2006 00:11:15 Is far too bloody long. Im new to this game bla bla but for my limited playtime, the time taken to travel to warp gates is so damn tedious, its not "quality" interaction time with my npc corps members, its not tense, exciting, atmospheric or anything good, its crap, its a waste of my time!
All other mmorpgs ive played have quite lengthy travel times, wow - the scenic route /yawn, swg - 10 minute waits at shuttle ports anybody, but the distances we had to travel were not just drastically shorter but u didnt have to travel anywhere near as much as what u do in eve, to pick up stuff yove bought, to do missions etc.
Im sorry if im going off on one ere but seriously its just a complete and utter waste of time, im amazed they havent done anything about it, its not even one of these effective mmorpgs time sinks........its BORING!!!
Personally id be happy waiting 5-10 secs till i hit the gate or whatever, maybe even 0 secs and then onwards, for those who like to gate camp im sorry but fraggin people as they download into a new zone isnt pvp.
Just my 2 cents but its really frustrating my game play, as well as most of all my desire to travel and explore eve, to go like 7-8 let alone 16+ gates to really get out there into the wilderness, these retarded gate jumps simply eat too much up out of my online time to make it worth while!

Go to make your Autopilot use "Safe Routes" only where possible and lean back, go have a snack or whatever

The time factor to travel is what gives the universe the sense4 of being big. If you could tarvel everywhere instantly, it would ruin teh market, the game and any sense of space.
Leave teleportation to other games that care more about instant gratification and less about any sense of challenge or accomplishment.

When your doing a 32+ jump i fail to understand how reducing time it takes to get to gates will ruin the game, market and sense of space, 32 jumps takes a heck of a long time without the distance to gates anyway?
So why add another 25-30 minutes onit so your ship can slowly, like an overweight snail, tediously, gormlessly drift towards the gate as the distance so slowly clocks down.
How u find this challenging, an accomplishment, aside from the fact unlike me you probably have alot less difficulty staying awake at the keyboard ill never know.
Long jumps would still take alot of time, theres lots of places to go through, so i fail to see why removing tedious distances to warp gates will ruin the game and break the market by removing a pathetic 20-40 minute time sink on long jumps?

Let me try to explain.
Some of the biggest, most successful, real life companies in existence have been shipping companies.
In economics, location is money. Delivering goods to where they are needed is just as important as manufacturing them. Raw materials have to be delivered to factories. Finished products have to be delivered to markets, etc.
Location = money and money = time, so, time = location. The time required for shipping (along with the risk, difficulty, and expense) determine just how much money can be made from it. If goods could be delivered instantly then there wouldnĘt be any reason to ship anything and a whole sector of the Eve economy would die.
For example, (on another character) IĘve bought common modules dirt cheap from the place they were manufactured and put them up at heavily inflated prices in a station where ships were being built. People were willing to pay 25k instead of 5k to avoid spending 20 minutes flying to the source. (Since I had to fly out there to get a couple I decided to just get a hundred and put them on the market. It took a couple months, but they all sold.)
And when I was mining in one out of the way system I was willing to pay good money to have modules delivered to me. I was pulling in about 3mil an hour so saving myself a 30 minute round trip was worth a quarter million. The people who made the deliveries were probably real happy to trade their time for the money I was paying out.
Yes, they could make life easier and put the shippers out of business by making travel easierą And they could giver minerals away and we wouldnĘt have to fool with that boring mining nonsense. They could also give ships and modules away and we could all fly around in the best stuff without having to worry about that manufacturing stuff too.

It makes it easier to kill your ship.

The REASON why "travel times from gate to gate" are as they are is because of the PVP factor of things.
As you said, you are new, so you have not yet experienced a proper gangbang in low security empire, I feel for you the day you will. But I also believe that you will then grasp the wastness of EVE universe and the versability of professions within this said universe.
(HINT: There's this thing called bookmarks. *cough* *cough*)
Take a trip to Rancer and warp from gate to gate there. It won't take long until you experience just what I'm trying to explain. And then, and only then, will you understand WHY. It's not rocket science we're talking about here. »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»

use an afterburner, use autopilot and go afk, use a MicroWarpdrive or get Insta's (gate to gate instant bookmarks)...
all those things reduce time (unless the ap option, but you don't have to be at your keyboard for it)...
and in 0.0, it's actually exiting to travel long distances in a slow ship while you know there could be an enemy camp at the following gate...
Second sig removed, only 1 signature graphic please - Xorus ^_^WOOHOO!!! my Sig finally got nerfed... i'm 1337 now... |
