Just a simple (maybe not) question:
Which one (overall) is the best Interceptor for PvP (solo and/or in Gangs)?
Assuming that the pilot is perfectly skilled for it, i.e. Mechanic, Engineering, Electronic, Gunnery, Navigation, Spaceship Command and probably Missile Skills.
Thank you for all answers that contains no flames

Crow. It's the best combat interceptor, it's the second fastest practically to the Claw, it has great maneuverability and mass, and it has 3 mids. Pound for pound, it's the technical best.
Although inties really are down to pilot skill and personal preference as to which is the best in practice.

Stiletto.
It does the best job of intercepting targets. On top of that, it is pretty cheap . --- I'm going through sigs fast these days. |

QFT
though i'd say - ranis for overall performance (surprise - i'm ranis pilot )
good damage output vs allmost everything (though you have to get in range very quick with blasters - and you'll likely to die if your attacking something big which is fitted for pvp) good tackling performance - 3 meds and quite a lot of cap mediocre to good tanking ability (not as good as the claw - but still good .. oh .. and DC 4tw!!) 10m¦ drone bay (can be life safer)
though rocketcrow and ac-claw are also really nasty ships ___________________

There's plenty of "best" interceptors.
Crow - already mentioned. Vagabond of interceptors. Clear champion for one-on-one interceptor fights. Price, skills required and DPS are not that great, though. Also, too many noobs fly it these days.
Taranis - best for belt piracy. Can break tanks other interceptors can't. Right behind Crow in duels.
Stiletto - best "tackler". Not much better than the rest for regular "orbit at 5km" stuff, but shines with 20km scramblers (the magic of 3 points and afterburner) and adequate support. ------ No ISK, no fun |

You're right about the price, not sure about the skills tho? and definately not about the DPS. In the 5km <-> 15km range (rockets) and 10km <-> 25km (light missiles) it has the best DPS by far. What other inty can hit for its maximum DPS anywhere near what a crow can do while orbiting at 25km travelling at 7000 m/s? -----

Crow will get you through more situations successfully than any other inty, it's the best all rounder. Basically if you happen to meet a close range interceptor that goes faster than you then you could be in trouble.
The light missile crow needs to stay out of web range. If you're on the ball and fit a decent web though you can slow the other inty down enough and keep it out of range, he should pop before hes on top of you.
Watch out for the crusader and claw, they can hurt crows depending on their setup.
I love me crow though, it's great for killing hapless assault frigate pilots that can't hit you above 10km.
Enjoy!

The usual 'best' heirarchy is a tussle between the Crow, the Taranis and the Claw (usually settling in that order) if you're looking for a solo wtfpwnmachine. If you have others in the group then the Stiletto for pure tackling capability and iritation factor trying to kill the little git.
Though at the 'bottom' I find the Ares is better than the Raptor, particularly when people practially ignore it in a fight because it's not a Taranis... (oh for 3 more PG on the Ares).
Seriously, which one is 'best' depends on your play style. For exampel I find that I just don't get on with Caldari ships at all, but Gallente, Minmatar and Amarr ships fit just fine, ergo I'd be more inclined to use a Crusader than a Crow even though technically the Crow is the 'better' ship.
It does also mean a lot of people plump straight for the Crow and use standard identi-kit fittings they've found on these forums which makes them easy to counter.

T2 std. missiles are dead end, even more so when assault missiles get changed. While small T2 guns lead to meds. Crow also needs energy-related skills more than other ceptors as it pretty much has to run 20km scram + MWD. Originally by: Angelus X and definately not about the DPS. In the 5km <-> 15km range (rockets) and 10km <-> 25km (light missiles) it has the best DPS by far. I think raw DPS (you know, target with 400m sig, 0 transversal, 0% resists) of the Crow is noticably less than what you get on Taranis, but I haven't checked. Of course, "DPS flexibility" that you described more than compensates for that. But we're talking about the best.
Still, more DPS on Crow would be greatly appreciated by noobs that fit T1 Std. Launchers with 7,5 km scram and "move in" for the kill ------ No ISK, no fun |

7kms? I've got a T2 MWD on my Crow, with decent Nav skills, and I'm getting 4kms MAX.

Gistii examples:
I fly a Claw with LG snakes, MWD II, Local Nano, and Local Overdrive. I get about 5600m/s
With a Gistii MWD on, I do 7.4km/s.
With Domi Nano and Overdrive on, I do about 7.6km/s.
And this is with Acceleration Control at 4, too. Yeh, the faction stuff makes a *lot* of difference.

With maxed skills:
Crow + T2 MWD + Local Nano + Local Overdrive: 4640m/s Crow + Gistii MWD + Domi Nano + Domi Overdrive: 5569m/s (+20%)
Crow + T2 MWD + Local Nano + Local Overdrive + HG Snakes: 7128m/s (+54%) Crow + Gistii MWD + Domi Nano + Domi Overdrive + HG Snakes: 8555m/s (+84%)
It's all relative.

That is some serious difference right there. I've gotta say, you guys have got some balls fly **paper thin** Interceptors with that kinda gear/implants fitted.
I guess you've gotta have something to waste your billions on

for pure style points it's the crusader
and as for fastest inty, the crusader will give crows a run for their money if properly fitted, and at the high end the claw's weight starts to hurt it
that is, if you're going to go for 20km+ tackling... sadly, here the crusader's locking range limits its potential (no 30km scram for you, and the 28 requires some creativity)

Actually, no - at the speeds you reach with faction mods, you're highly unlikely to ever lose those ships. They become immune to pretty much every weapon. At 7.4km/s, you take less than 1 damage from a light missile or rocket. At 7.8km/s, you take less tha n1 damage from even precision light missiles.
The only thing that can stop you is a web, and if your buddies are making sure the webbers stay off your back, you won't die very often. On the other hand, if you fly a non faction fitted ship, you might find yourself dying fairly often to circumstances beyond your control.
What Im saying is, I think faction fitted Inties are actually cheaper to fly than none faction fitted ones :)

I should point out that I wouldn't dream of flying that setup.
I haven't even maxed Navigation to V since I mostly fly big-ass Amarrian ships that can barely move outside warp. That said, a Gistii Crow is not a bad choice of ship to fly around with a head full of HG Snakes; a larger ship will get blobbed eventually, at least a Crow has a chance of evading it.

Can be done. But you've got to watch out carefully for the Vagabond, if you hit web range (or you've both webbed each other), he's gonna tear into you pretty hard. Watched a rocket Crow get torn up in literally no more than a few seconds while trying to lock down a Vaga for a Jag and Harpy out at range, I swear the fight was over in 30 seconds and the Jag and Crow pods were being escorted home by a Harpy...
It always comes down to loadout and skill (actual PvP skill), if you know your ship well and play its strong points, then anything becomes a serious threat. __________ Your wife's B!tch Slap strikes you perfectly, wrecking for a lifetime of pain and misery... |

As I wrote, I didn't take into account aesthetics, in which case the Ares would rate much higher. As for the interceptor category, I've got considerable experience with both Gallente and Amarr interceptors, as well as on the oposing side of the Crow as I am fairly certain of what I am talking about there. That the Ares has four low slots is a myth people fool themselves into believing when they show info on the ship. In reality it has only three low slots unless fitted for pure shuttle setup (in which case the Daredevil is better in either case). The Ares is so short on powergrid that you must have one more MAPC than any other interceptor in order to fit similar grade items, and in addition to this damage controls aply only to half it's weapon systems.
The Ares is the worst interceptor without competition. There are tier 3 tech 1 frigates are better than the Ares (these ships, incidentally, can actually fit decent setups having much more powergrid). A simple illustration as written above "I find the Ares better since people ignore me just because I am in an Ares"
No. I haven't underrated the Ares. To even write it down in the list is a gracious nod in it's direction for hopes that it will be boosted to a workable state. - Three years old |
