Devs mentioned them around the RMR period. think it was tux

aren't they just light missile launchers with a faster rof and larger grid designed for cruisers? They already out then.

They're being changed to be short range / more power / harder to fit.

would assault missiles be considered cruiser sized rocket launchers?
frigs - rockets/lights
cruisers - assault/heavies
BS - torp/cruise
it would make sense, because in every other weapon class except smartbombs, there is a close range high dps, and a long range low dps weapon for every class

YES.
they said it will have a 15km base range.
and 150 or more base dps, anyhow , its more damage that heavies, jsut slower and short range

More like cruiser sized torps as Tuxford's last comment on that matter was that they will require more grid/cpu than the heavy launchers.
