Quote: Ello All, Ok, first off im a complete n00b at this so pls excuse me if any of my questions seem stoopid.
No worries mate, we all start somewhere. Welcome to EVE
Quote: 1. Ive purchased a particular skill but i cant learn it till ive aquired Engineering II which i cant find anywhere to buy. Have i just not found a technical enough station that would sell it or is there something else im doing wrong?
You need the engineering skill trained to level 2, not another skill called Engineering II.
Quote: 2. Can u sell skills/items uve bought but not learnt/used for a more realistic price than the pathetic `sell back' prices u get from stations? Yes ive bought stuff i cant actually use *bursts into tears*
You can place a sell order for the item you bought. assuming you payed a normal price, selling it for a couple isk below what you bought it for shouldn't take too long.
Quote: 3. Is there a better way for n00bs to gain wealth apart from endless, poorly paid mining runs? Ive only been playing for a week so dont really understand the pricing system of the trading goods market yet but the mining runs are doing my head in. Ive lost count how many ive done but im still flying around in a tincan with what feels like `nothing to show for it'.
Mine with friends, hunt NPCs, hunt NPCs with friends, figure out the trading system, do agent missions.... there are lots of ways to make some cash in EVE, just look around at what other people are doing. Finding the right corperation can take your earnings up a ton, so look around before you sign up anywhere.
Quote: 4. Can u add slots to ships or does each have a standard number? Is buying a bigger ship the only answer?
Can't change the number and configuration of slots. buy a better ship, or get better mods to put in the slots you have.
Quote: 5. CPU/Capacitor/Powergrid - Can u increase these or just learn/buy stuff to improve their efficency? Like #4, is buying a bigger ship the answer?
Both skills and modules can add to your CPU, Powergrid, and Capacitor. A better ship will give you a higher starting point with these though, and maybe more slots to put modules that add to them in.
Quote: 5. Im scared to go into any unsafe areas cos im still in exactly the same basic starter ship. I feel that if i did venture anywhere near pirates i'd probably get `done' before i'd seen them...it could destroy my interest in the game especially after all the mind numbing mining ive done. Am i worrying about nothing? Is my piddly electron laser enough to fight back?
Stick to high security space while you learn the ropes. Pirates, both NPC and PC will eat you for breakfast. luckily, it doesn't take that long to get the ships, mods, skills and friends to defend yourself or at least run away. That being said though, don't go somewhere unsafe in anything you can't afford to lose.
Stay aware of whats going on around you, read all you can, and find the right friends, and in no time at all, you'll be flitting around the universe in the ship of your dreams
