So, we recently stumbled across a great 0.4 system that we are going to occupy. Big rocks :D
I'd like to hear your guys' opinions on how to keep asteroids from ... being super tiny the next day. We stripped one belt out yesterday... all the rocks are gone today (or very small).
What can we do to prevent this?
no smart answers like "dont mine" :P

I'm fairly certain that they will regenerate at a certain rate every ore specific day of the week, so nothing you can do.

Nurture them.
Never pop a rock, just take a bit less than it has.

That does nothing. Popping them helps more.
Asteroids respawn twice a week (usually tuesday / saturday, IIRC), so popping them will get them to respawn, while leaving them with a little left wont. ---------------------------

Boo for mixed results.
So, if the rocks POP then do they respawn with only a little left in them, vs if they grow a little each day?
omg confusion

Test it out on another belt in the same system, see what the results of the two fields are, compare it and solve the myth once and for all.

No. Popping a rock does not make ore respawn in it any faster or slower than not popping it. Here is how my extensive mining experience tells me it works.
These figures are hypothetical to illustrate the point.
Day 1: Roid A and B both have 1000 units in them. You mine Roid A to nothing and pop it. You mine Roid B to 100 units and leave it alone.
Day 2: Roid A will not be there. Roid B will be there with 1 day's worth of ore respawn in it. You leave Roid B alone.
Day 3: Roid A will not be there. Roid B will be there with 2 day's worth of ore repsawn in it. You leave Roid B alone.
Day 4: Roid A will be there with 3 days worth of ore respawn in it. Roid B will be there with 3 days worth of ore respawn in it.
Pop or don't pop. It makes no difference.

Its been catergorically stated by the dev's popping roids or leaving them makes no difference to there respawn rate. If I had the post to hand i'd give you the link, but thats what eve search is for.

The rhetoric of to pop or not to pop is from Castor or thereabouts. Go ahead and pop, it won't negatively effect the field.

the "dont pop them" thing is from the old days ;p
back when ore respawned everyday and repanwed with a set amount, but if u kept it alive it grew 110%.
for example if u popped a crokite rock itd come back tommorow (in the EXACT same spot too) with 1000 crokite pieces, if u left it alone the next day it would have 2100 pieces and so on and so on ;p which is why many alliances had a "leave at least 200" or such rules back then for ore ;p
its no longer beneficial to not pop them now ;p ------------------------------------------------ NEWLY ADDED ON 1/19 (though applies to all posts before ;p)
the usual "I don't represent my corp or alliance" and stuffs like that

There is a big debate on either popping rocks or leaving a little bit inside. Honestly, just pop the rocks. Now the reason why you found a system with such huge rocks is because nobody mines them. And after each respawn, it roids get alittle more ore in them and grow. Leave the roid alone for several months and you can get roids that are 20+km across. I say that after you stip the system of the mega roids, move on to another system unless you plan on mining the rarer ores.

There used to be a belt in Vullat that was unmineable. The roids were so goddam big, any attempt to warp into the belt would have you bounce off them to at least 150,000km away.
Dunno what happened to it. Maybe it's still there. ________________________________________________

Back in my mining days, I never used to pop them for one very simple reason......why use a full strip miner cycle for a tenth of a cycles worth of ore? Leave them 'til they will yeild a full cycle worth of ore and it's more time/financially viable.

You should remote-recharge them with carrier or logistic cruiser.
btw, it doesn't matter if you do mine them completely empty or not. They will respawn at the same rate.

Interesting. :)
Give me the rundown for 1 month if I wanted to mine the Veldspar, and then the "rarer" ores such as Jaspet.
Start of 1 month: HUGE VELD ROCKS, juicy Jaspet rocks with 20k Jaspet each (or whatever is really high)

I believe respawn downtimes are different depending on which region / area you are in. For example, most areas I mine, their respawn times are tuesday and thursday. In other areas it is monday and friday. You have to figure this out for your area. If the worst comes to the worst, move to 0.0 :-) Infinate ore for everyone XD

Edited by: Par''Gellen on 17/09/2006 15:03:47 I don't know about the "respawn on certain days" thing. It seems to me the roids stay gone for 3 days (or three reboots) no matter what day they were popped on. I haven't really payed that much attention to it but I HAVE seen half a belt respawn while the other half is still gone. Was a long time ago though so I dunno if it's still like that. As a test someone should mine half a belt away then mine the other half away the next day and see if they respawn at the same time. Hmmm... If I could find a system with no macros in it I'd try it myself.
