What I'm looking to do is hunt NPCs out in 0.0 space, solo.
I'd assume that bigger ships would do better, but my goal in EVE (until something more interesting comes along) is to stick to my little frigates.
With that in mind, I'd like to hear some suggestions on what ships and setups you folks think would be able to survive out there.
I'm a fairly new player, and I'm willing to train in whatever race's frigate skill I'll need. Hopefully we can get a nice list of tech 1 frig setups (you know, new player friendly setups), but I'm more than happy to hear about the tech 2 frigs, as those are what I'm working toward.
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions and comments! (even if you're just telling me I'm crazy). |

No tech 1 fitted frigate will rat in 0.0 at all. tech 2 is more then capable when tech 2 fitted (or named :S)

Thanks for the reply.
I guessed that I'd need a tech 2, but anyway, any tips on which to go for and how to fit it when the time comes?

this is not necessarily true - but essentially to be effective (ie time vs profit) you pretty much need the skills you would to fly the t2.
that said, you could easily be of a lot of help as a 'super drone' flying with someone in a bc or a cruiser together and really speed things up for other pilot and you.
a pack of pvp fitted cruiser/frigs actually rip through belts and it is quite humerous... if you are getting bored looking for target! __ Weirda Join QOTSA Now |

You could kill the non-bs spawns in 0.0, which are crap spawns that no one else wants anyways. You could prolly handle the smallest BSes too, if you didn't mind filling your hold with only ammo.

Edited by: Malfactor on 17/09/2006 00:57:25 If you want to rat in 0.0 in a frig: train towards Assault Frigs. They have better resists all around, and generally can take a good bit of damage. The key thing to remeber is that you need to get in close to the BSs and make sure they cannot hit you with their guns.
As for race, I think that your best bet for strictly ratting is probably Gallente. I have seen the Gallente AFs rat in 0.0 before, it took awhile to kill the BSs, but he had no problem tanking. Sorry I cannot provide you with any help setting them up, as I only fly Minnie and Caldari T2 frigs.

Thank you all for the replies!
I'm mainly in this for the excitement (and, of course, the bounty)
As for having no room for loot, I don't suppose it's that big of a deal for me. If something comes along that's worth a lot, I can just jet some ammo and haul it off

Retribution can tank and deal enough damage, just toss an afterburner on and close in.

Yeah either the Retri or maybe the Ishkur would be best for this I think, pretty good tank and no ammo needed for its main weapon systems. You will shoot through a lot of ammo trying to take down an NPC BS with a frig (even a t2 one) so I would second the suggestion of either taking a buddy along or training for one of the non-ammo using frigs.
I would also not really bother with a T1 frig for this. It would be a much better use of your time to hunt cruiser spawns in .2 systems until you can get into an AF.

I'd suggest training amarr then, provided you'll be fighting rats that laser can hurt. No ammo, and you can fly a punisher while you train for T2, which I've done 0.0 with before. It is a beast, you can easily find fitting suggestions for it, and it is fast enough with an afterburner to get under npc BS guns.

Okay, looks like I'll stick to Amarr ships and find myself a punisher for now.
Thank you for the tips.

retribution with 4x med pulses and a heatsink II kills sansha battleships very, very fast... almost more effective then a lot of battleships at it. ---------------------------

Ishkur and Retribution are popular. In both, just fit for speed and DPS.

I was using an enyo for 0.0 ratting, works well.
But if you have good drone skills, the ishkur, I find, is a better all rounder for taking out the support aswell. With 5 t2 drones, with 2 med 3 light or all 5 light, works brilliantly.
Cap skills are also needed due to the ishkurs lower cap than the enyo.

You can use a t1 frig for PvP in 0.0 but I've neva tried for PvE, I had enough trouble breaking the tank on some on the BS's in my dessy.
