Log In Traps
I made this post because i just heard a rumour that nothing is to be done about "Log In Traps".
This i think is absoloutly pathetic, considering they could NOT be pulled off without out of game mechanics, AND give the aggressor a MAJOR advantage of being undetectable.
We all know the arguments about these tactics. And i am not making this thread so people can argue over the subject.
Something needs to be done. Something really needs to be done. I have been victom of a few of these and have always thought "oh no worries, CCP will think of a way to prevent these, they always do, these blatenly should not be allowed"
It turns out this is not the case. Now what i want to do is try and make CCP see how serious this is. Obviously your going to have the people that use these tactics jumpin in this thread flaming me, flaming this idea and basically trying to hold on to their little tactic so try to not let these comments prevent you from being heard.
If you want CCP to deal with this ongoing problem instead of brushing it aside because its a tricky task all i want you to do is sign this thread.
eg "\signed"
Please folks, if your reading this. If you agree, quickly log in and add your signature. It will only take a second or 2.
Try to keep this thread free of any comments, all i want is signatures, this is a petition being handed around the eve community with the goal of aquiring as many signatures as possible.
Something has to be done about this.

You know, your reply (being in ASCN and all) reminds me of that hillarious thread created by Cyvok about 'building empires' and not being able to create the perfect carebear land in 0.0 and every Xetic mebers posting 'signed'.
Dear mods, lets ban this non-sense.

Maybe make it so that when you log in from space there is a 1 minute delay before getting control of your ship? Can explain this in a roleplaying way as when you log off you're effectively sleeping/unconsious in your pod, when you become consious in your pod again without the aid of a station it takes a while for your body to become situationally aware and adjusted, therefore you cannot control your ship for this while (1 minute).
This would mean those logging in innocently at a safespot have no trouble (1 minute isn't very long), where as those doing loggin traps will miss the kill, this would also mean that those who log out in combat to save their ships and pods like cowards also have to think twice since if they log back in again they can't control their ship on the way to where they logged out and for a little time whilst there meaning they can't warp out if the enemy is still there .
IMO this solution kills two tactics within EVE that reek of cowardice and incompetance with one stone.

While I would not use this tactic, I do consider it fair. It is similar to waiting at a location with your ship running on minimum power, thus hiding your presence then ramping it up to full to suprise a target/enemy. It fits in roleplaying wise.

log on traps suck...nice to see it worked out..although i'm doubtful its on the top of the priority fix list.
"Maybe make it so that when you log in from space there is a 1 minute delay before getting control of your ship?"
what about if you ctd at a belt while npcing or so...now you warp back in to a 3 bs spawn with no way to leave or activate mods for 1 minute,or gate rats for that matter?

but not sure what they could do to stop this...
perhaps a delay where the ship is invincible but cant fire or move...?

Only just thought of this, but if you're in a good tanking ship this wont affect you anyway. After the warp has finished there would only be 15 seconds or so left on the timer.

Serves you right for being a coward and logging off by a gate in the first place.

Logging in is the only viable countermeasure against the omnipotent local channel. So until local is fixed I see no reason to limit in any way the ability to (mass) login whenever its convenient or interesting to do.

From Oveur's dev blog: "Changing this mechanic affects everyone, and that's the problem. However, we are indeed looking into it. Good suggestions welcome." http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=368
So while I would personally like to see log on traps nerfed, they've stated that it's a tough nut to ***** and have asked for the community to help come up with ideas.
So my saying "\signed" doesn't really help the problem.
