So I trained up for repair drones and was very excited about the whole idea until I tried to use them.
Whats the reasoning behind not being able to use them on yourself? Is it a game balance issue do the devs just have alot more important stuff to do then programming in this fuctionality.
The fact that you can only use them on someone else definatly promotes teamwork but I think it's a little silly that they can't be used on your own ship.

Edited by: Akita T on 22/09/2006 02:53:28 You CAN'T use them on yourself ?!? Eumh, that's it, not continuing on to train for them anymore :(
EDIT: are you sure they're not, eumh, "repairing" you automatically when they orbit ? __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |

Nope, Repair Bots can only be used remotely on other persons and not on your own ship..
This is not a bug, but a feature...

Same reason you can't use drones on yourself? You need to able to target something in order to you the drones. Since you can't target your self you can't use drones on yourself.

If you would be able to use repair drones on yourself you would be absolutely overpowered. I've trained them up and im absolutely satisfied with them. I did some Level 4 missions with friends where it wasnt a problem to have all the NPC's at a time aggroed. I havent used them yet in pvp but i know they are very helpfull.

Do repair drones benefit from drone interfacing skill?

I'm pretty sure they don't (if you mean repair amount), just as the other non-damaging drones are not made stronger in their effect. ______________ Join the Family |

AFAIK, you don't have to target a certain target for your drones to engage that target automatically, if they were already attacking ANY enemy. I've seen it happend a lot of times, my drones (ferox-launched) usually go for the frigs (that I don't even have targetted) while I clear out the cruisers and battlecruisers in L3 missions. Sure, they don't always go for the frigs, they don't go "all together" but rather scatted between targets (seemingly at random), they usually do NOT start attacking anybody if you had no enemy targetted (or you didn't issue an attack order on any enemy yet), they keep attacking the same enemy even if target is lost (and sometimes, I think, they attack targets close to or even beyond their normal control range).
Bottom line, I have no idea how repair drones SHOULD work (in the dev's oppinion), but you just can't assume beforehand that they're thinking repair drones SHOULDN'T repair "yourself". Why ? Well, say you have TWO similarly fitted "drone ships", both with repair drones, and both repair eachother with their drones. Now assume one switches the repair drones for attack drones if not under fire, switch back and do the other way around if the other comes under attack, etc. Is it any different than using them on YOURSELF in the first place ? Hardly.
I'd say common sense would dictate that repair drones would repair YOU constantly WHEN ORBITING in "idle" mode, if you are damaged (in what they can repair)... not the other way around. And that they would automatically seek and repair any damaged ally in control range after target is fully repaired, as any assault drones would do when they deal damage.
So unless the maintenance drone descriptions start saying "Use them to repair gang mates" or something to that extent, and given the fact drone AI was supposed to be pretty thoroughly bugged already (partially fixed by now)... I'd have to say I can only assume this behaviour IS indeed a BUG, not a feature. __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |

makes sense. til now i didnt bother. i thought it would be to easy, using repping drones on yourself, but this actually really makes sense. -- Only you can save MMORPGS - Stop whining today! |
