Is it me, or it's not cool that CCP can't figure out how to implement user (session) authentication correctly when you don't need to click 2-3 times to access your character info? Same goes for forums.. page reloading and lopping is really annoying.
It took me 7 clicks and 4 minutes to post this message and it's not funny.

Every single time I log in on a new computer (one that doesn't have the cookie) it gets into an infinite loop and refreshes as fast as it can, probably causing massive server load also.
CCP, dump your ASP servers. Seriously. They suck.

There is definately something wrong with one of the servers on the custer which hosts 'www.eve-online.com'. Often I cant even access that main domain, however the sub domain of 'myeve' is a lot more responsive. It's been that way for over a year that I can remember.
I'm UK too and I believe the servers are hosted in London?

I have worked on many ASP sites and they don't suck if they are programmed correctly.

I couldn't agree more, although problem, IMHO, is not in ASP, but they way it's all put together (scripted).
User -> Account --> Web Setvice ( subscription, transfers, etc) | --> Character 1 --> Web Service ( forum, pettions, etc) .... | --> Character 2 --> Web Service ( forum, pettions, etc) It should be RBAC ( role based access) with passport-style authentication mechanism, where user holds credentials ( login, password) and characters are roles assigned to the user. Signed.
A lot.

(How about making it all IGB compatible too while we're at it? That part seems particularly mind-boggling - that the game website doesn't work with the game browser...)

This is an issue that isn't limited to just the EVE community, Oveur and I have both lost a number of blogs and news items because we typed them in the browser and not Notepad. I'm sending another mail to the team to let them know this still persists and directing them to look at this thread as an example.
I apologize for the inconveniences this issue has caused, I hope the knowledge that we are sharing the community's pain helps ease the disappointment.

Use Firefox. That way, you can simply click Back and whatever form you submitted information will again be filled with the information (such as a dev blog or post).

Yeah, that about right. Seems like session identification algorithm is not implemented correctly. Ideally, it should take on account client IP, certificate ( if any), cookie and get/post, md5 hash variables (client IP + proxy +user agent). Lame user identification is a standard issue for most open source CMS.

I would use Firefox, as many in CCP do. However, Firefox does not work with some of the back end pages and I haven't made the transition yet. Once there is a plug-in available, I'll give consideration to Firefox.

Hey, it's only a massive problem since march, 10/11th(?), when the webservers lost the portrait rendering machine among other 'features' in a big crash. Hardly any releveant time.
There is an easy and inexpensive cure for the 'losing stuff' experience: Install FireFox. With the back button you can go back to the site with the still filled fields and copy them. Sometimes you can even post them successfully after logging in for another 18 times.
Edit: Wow, this post worked on the first try! *runs off to mark the day i nthe calendar with a big red X. --*=*=*--

You could just do like I do, Kieron, and use firefox most of the time and whatever other browser for sites that don't work well in firefox (few and far between, TG). Just a suggestion Tabbed browsing is so much more fun than having a million and one windows open

Just to add to the feedback, God help you if you use a Mac. Even with Firefox - the most useful of the OS X browsers, as far as I can tell - you might as well be sending you forum post via pigeon-mail.
(So I use Macs at work, it's not a sin.)

It's nice to see that someone with some weight actually tries to get this fixed, but this particular problem (along with many others) has been around for so long that one has to wonder whether your friendly "mails to the team" are going straight to /dev/null like the complaints of us players (we've pointed this problem out over and over again for many months now).
In my company it usually helps to identify the (most) responsible person and contact him directly, as "mails to the team" often end up being ignored since everyone thinks someone else should take care of it ... :-/
