ok s i started to mine yesterday with an incursis(i think). I was making about 22k a load with scordite, then jumped one system away where i found some plagioclase. on one load 1 only made like 15k. i thought plagioclase is more valuable? does it depend on the region you are mining, and is there a "ticker" some where that shows current selling prices for ore? Thank you. I still cannot believe they let me out! |

You can open the market and look at the things in the "ore" section to see what it's going for in the system/region you are in.

Right click on the ore, click the "View Market Details" and look on the buy list, how much you can get per unit ore.
That should tell you how many ISKies you can get for your mined ore.

* Jobie pulls out his fine toothed comb*
Lets see if I found your questions right....
1) I thought Plagioclase is more valuable than Scordite
1a) It is, But its also bigger. I'll explain that in a minute. Also, 1 peice > value than The other =\= better value, often you need to watch the actual bulk of the item to get a good value.
2) Does it depend on the region your mining?
2a) Yes and No. There's an average Price galaxy wide, IE, Veld usually is around 5isk, trit around 2, etc... May go up or down, but again, thats going on the norm. Each region has a different market, So there are different orders there. Some hub systems will have bad pricing in them as well, so you need to watch out for that.
3) Is there a "ticker" to show me the ore prices
3A) Not directly. You have to play with the market a little to get this right. Here's what I do, using Trit for example.
Open Market, Select Search tab.
Search for Tritanium. This should show you either a chart, graph, or a listing of all buy and sell orders.
Set the market to show "Market Data" or whatever its called (at work so can't get exact name atm), and you should have a list of all BUy and Sell orders. Now you can sort these orders by Price, so that the Highest and lowest prices are on top.
Set your Buy orders to High, and your sell orders to low. This will list it so that you can now see who has the cheapest trit for sell, and who is buying it for the most.
Back to Q1. As your ore goes up in value, its size is going to increase. Your mining lasers don't pull in an amount by number of units, but actual m3. Get used to relating Mined or in that manner.
You can check how many m3 your mining laser gets in the show info. You can also check to see how large a single peice of the asteroid your mining is in the show info tab.
Veld for example is .1 m3, if your mining laser brings in 10 units per cycle, then you should get 100 pc of Veldspar, 10m3 of ore.
Also, take that into account while mining ore for sale. If veldspar sells for 4 per unit, and Plag is selling for 10 per unit, Plag is .3 m3, The same space of Veld is 3 peices...
3 pc * 4 isk = 12 isk
1 pc + 10 isk = 10 isk
Just something to watch out for :)

Wow, thanks for the information about the market for ore. That really helped me a lot (also a newb). One more question. I bought a new ship (my first!) and I need to get a mining laser and a weapon. I have no idea what will fit on my ship or what the options mean. I have printed out the weapon guide on this forum, but I still don't get it. I bought a Navitas (Gallente). Can anyone help me out here? Thanks!

Actually Plagioclase is the most worthly ORE currently in EVE. So don't mine that.
For example (on average) a full can of Velspar will yield (100% efficient) 1,485,000ISK where as the same can of Plagioclase will yield only 1,085,888ISK
For you're region aim for at least Pyroxeres, Omber/Kernite. Or if you want no rats stick to Scordite. ___________________

Use 2 mining lasers and no weapons at all in .9 and 1.0 sec systems.
As a gallente, never forget the power of drones. Just having 2 or 3 light drones out as cover while you are mining can keep you safe in 0.7 and 0.8. If you up your drone skills a bit you can kill anything in 0.5+ without doing anything at all.

Edited by: Rillian on 24/09/2006 12:47:38 Ya Plagioclase is a pain to mine as the amount of ore you get per cycle is really crap and the m3 cargo it takes up is huge , initially for beginner miners Go with scordite, Massive scordite if you can find it , also here is a big TIP......DO NOT REFINE IT! IF YOUR REFINE SKILLS ARE LOW SELL THE SCORDITE ore you will make more isk selling the scordite to people who can perfect refine versus refining it your self. Remember sell the scordite ore if your refine skills + the ore tax that the station takes till you get your skills up and the standings at the station are higher by doing missions and such.
I think if the station corp ie: amarr navy see you at 8 standing the ore refine tax = 0% or close to it I dont recall the exact standings nessacary to get the 0% npc tax to refining
**edit** also remember people are lazy dont go for the immediate sell set up a sell order as those who place buy orders normally do it at insanly low prices. pick a heavyly trafic area to sell as people hate to do multipule jumps to haul stuff , problem is these areas tend to be over mined so 1 to 3 jumps from a populated system is good

FYI: it is a corp standing of 6.67 for 0% tax on refining. Connections/Deplomacy will help your standing for this calculation, so it is worth training them up a bit to decrease refining costs.
