I am not sure exactly what is supposed to be wrong with a close range gatecamp? I understand people hating snipers but a close range camp is a good tactic as well as being a great source of income. I believe it to be the equivalet of mass mining operations, only in a piraty sort of way.

Edited by: Samirol on 25/09/2006 03:26:05 gate camping is mining for pirates, it is mostly for pure profit, not good fights
I do gate camping occassionally if i feel like popping some haulers, hoping for some good expanders or such

We do close range gatecamps whenever we need to raise some isk. They are a good moneymaker if you've got enough people to hold the gate and minimize losses.

Invisible gate camps are where the realy money is at. All those escorted indys full of zyd don't see it coming. Difficult in low sec tho.

I've been solo gate camping at close range in my Rupture as of late. I can pop frigs/intys/haulers/shuttles and such solo before the gates get me. It's pretty intense, and as the others have pointed out, a pretty good source of income.
The best part is the folks that smack before the shooting starts - 'Go ahead, the sentries will get you if you try it'.
I agree with the OP though.. I dunno why anyone would have a problem with it as a tactic... especially in a T1 cruiser. It doesn't get any more fair for my 'victim' than that.
And besides, it's even pretty avoidable with good map/scanner awareness.

I'd say that around 95% of our gate camps are close range. We very rarely snipe except for specific situations which is extremely rare.
What was the point of this thread though?

sniping has its place when there arnt enough people to have a proper gate camp. but i do prefer a proper gate camp with close range and sniper support for those ships fast enough to beat the capture ships. honestly when you enter a system and realize their is a gate camp and you know your chances are slim at evasion spam local ill pay. chances are youll survive,,, that is if you pay.
