It's pretty early to be talking about this, but Windows 8 is coming and I have my doubts that there will ever be an iPad version of EVE. So My next hope is that perhaps there will be a way to play EVE on Windows 8 Tablets. I would say EVE moderately "touch friendly", except for all of the right-click context menus.
Is there any interest for a more touch friendly EVE? Could the same client be used for the standard desktop interface? |

I think making a tablet version for one group market would be a too limited.
However with the newer more powerful tablets coming out it would be a better idea to do game streaming. I currently do it on a third gen ipod. That is the 2008 model so very old and only with a wifi connection.
Remote desktop Open Eve ????? Profit
However I have only ever changed skills and industry stuff. . I don't think the connection speed from ipod to computer to ccp server to computer to ipod is anywhere good enough for PVP. Little and may I add save stuff its ok. |

Anything below 1920 pixels wide is a pain once you're accustomed to higher resolutions, so I can't imagine myself playing on a tiny tablet. Also no keyboard and mouse is bad.
What's necessary is players to be able to change skills in the queue with this Eve Gate website. That could be made to work on any computer or phone capable to render a web page. |

Hmm I'm wondering if they could integrate the Captains quarters into an app for tablets/smartphones. If anything, to work on things remotely (PI, corp stuffs, news feeds, and asset sorting, etc) through the interface already present or just to see your docked ship and scoot a char around. Most things out of station seems like it is still a few years away, but in station how much can be done? |

An AMD Fusion-based tablet would be more than capable of running eve. Some tablets have screens with resolutions up to 1280x800, which should be plenty if you scale your open windows down a bit, maybe stack some.
A dedicated touchscreen UI would be interesting...I don't think it'd be all THAT hard to do. The UI element on the bottom with the modules and whatnot is already pretty much good to go, as well as the locked target icons. |

We've seen it with Ubuntu: Unity is designed to be touch-friendly, but it turned out to be a PITA for ordinary desktop users, so much that users either switch to GNOME Classic or completely migrate to another Linux distribution.
So.... No. UI needs an overhaul, that's for sure, but making it suitable for touch devices would surely impair playability on systems with real input devices.
And somehow I cannot think of CCP making a dedicated touch-friendly client version next to the current one. Too expensive for too little profit and stretching QA resources even further.

Tablets next year will be supporting over a 2000*1500 rez so don't think that will be an issue.
Win 8 tablets will be fragmented between ARM and X86 CPUs and the ARM variants with Tegra 3 would be my choice for gaming but this is a major ball ache for CCP as it's completely different to X86.
Ivy Bridge CPUs with the updated GPU on die may be up to it..... perhaps.
All in all a year too early at the least for this discussion. Would be lush though. |

You're forgetting the batteries. These batteries don't improve with the same pace as processor and memory, so we have great phones today with charge that don't last last long, unless of course you don't use it.
You say it will work, but I have my doubts, you know. For how long the phone will run a complex game? An hour or maybe two? |

Battery life is increasing with power gating on chips and the ARM architecture power usage is pretty dam good anyways. There are other options like how OnLIve do things.
Why wouldn't CCP offer up EVE on there? |

I really don't know. Functionality to manage the skill queue through Eve Gate site is more than enough. And even if controls are changed to work on tablets somehow, playing on a tiny screen would be awful. |

As near as I can tell the Windows 8 Tablet is designed to be a full portable PC with an interface that is refined for touch. I doubt that an iPad or Android tablet would have the RAM or GPU to run EVE. But what about a full-fledged tablet? Anyone here try to run EVE on a Windows 7 tablet? I saw a Dell Windows 7 Tablet at Costco a few weeks ago. It had a full keyboard and track-pad hidden underneath a flip-around screen. I believe that the screen resolution was 1366x768. I know that is pretty low for most players, but I have played Ok at 1024x768.
If anyone has any experience running EVE on a full-fledged Windows 7 (or any version) Tablet, I'd like to hear how text input worked with the on-screen keyboard. and how "Right-clicking" worked out.
Thank you! |

I have come to the conclusion that I would be more than happy if EVE Universe for the iPhone let me check/send mail, have spin-able models of all ships in-game, manage my market orders, and someday manage my skill queue |

I doubt they would make eve a mobile game.
However, PI, Mail, Assets, Market, and some other features and management should be put in a mobile application.
CCP has stated that they want to make a grand interface, that you log into, then go in to the game, sort of like eve gate.
This master-gate idea could be used to ease the strain that multiboxing yeilds, and have a mobile access for certain functions.
After all, if they made this stuff easier, ppl would be more inclined to use it, and if multiboxing was easier ppl would get more accounts.
More accounts = more money.
Win win? |

While I wouldn't play EVE full-time on a tablet, I'd very much like to update my skill queue on the go. I moved back in July, and thought I set a BS skill to train to level 5, the shipment with my computer ended up being two months late (it was supposed to take 1 month and took three months instead). Totally unable to update my skill queue during that time. A small application to just do things like skill queue or PI would be great. |

I ran across an article about another MMO. It looks like they have started to develop an official App for the iPhone. I'd pay CCP some real $$ for an iPhone app from that would let me chat, spin ships, view assets, view fits, manage PI, manage market orders, contracts, update skill queue, etc... |
