first of all, i don't even know if switching from gallente to minmatar ships is a good idea but i just don't like drones... and from the first time i tried a rifter i'm kinda in love with projectile turrets and high speed problem is, i just finished gallente cruiser lvl2 and don't wanna spend the next days in a frig/destroyer if i could just as well hop in a vex. so i thought i'd try this setup here which i'm planning to use mostly on lvl2 missions and a bit of .4-.3 rat hunting with two friends of mine (but they don't have cruisers yet):
Vexor
4x 250mm Light Artillery Cannon I 1x Medium Nosferatu I
1x 10mn AB 1x Stasis Webifier 1x Medium Cap Battery
1x Medium Armor Rep 3x Cap Power Relay
when simulating in quickfit i can armor rep forever, but i don't know if that'll be of any use with only 1300 armor hp.. one thing i noticed in many vexor setups posted here is the 1600mm armor plating but i don't quite have the skill yet and i like out-of-the-ordinary stuff so that's how i came up with my setup. also, i'm a noob. so please bear with me and thx for comments

Minmatar have some great ships and setups. In fact, there are very few "bad" minmatar ships if any. The downside with Minmatar ships (from Cruisers and on up) is the need to train multiple skills up to use them effectively. Most ships have multiple turret and missile slots, and some ships (Cyclone) have shield tanking abilities while most are armor tanks. In practice, most Minmatar ships don't really tank especially well (hence the ubiquitous Raven as the level 4 mission runner).
Some ships really stand out for minmatar, and some require a second look. The Typhoon is one of the most underrated PvE Battleships. The problem? 4 missile slots and missile bonuses, some turret slots, and a huge drone bay. You need a lot of SP to use this ship effectively, and that's why I can't fly one today.
If youre new, and considering a quick path to Rat / run missions, I encourage you to consider Caldari. You can train a minimum of drone skills, missiles, shield tanking, and you're good to go. This will give you a good source of income as you train up other skills. Long term, Minmatar have some of the best T1 and T2 ships in the game. Short term, it's hard to make the most of them.

Bad is subjective. A great many Minmatar ships have narrower roles than their counterparts from other races.
Wherever you went - here you are.

Pretty much on spot, my only two complaints are the wolf and our racial EW. ----

Min EW is bad... or should I say the least valuable compared to what the other races have. It would be nice if they not only had the target painter but Min ships sported very low sigs. Want to fly min some day... Projectile turrets (s/m/l) Drones Missiles Armor skill Shield skills Various basic ship requirments for all races.
A very hard race to work out.

If ur issue is with drones then ur out of luck tbh, everyone uses them because they add some dps to ur ships. However if by drones u simply mean u dont wanna fly drone ships and such, then plz take a look into these ships: Thorax: one of the best pvp cruisers Megathron: awesome gank bs and whaddaya know? its alos a good sniper...
Just know that gallente are not all about drones its simply that they actually have ships designed for it (vexor/domi/ishtar w/e). Everyone will use drones in pvp/pve to help things go by quicker.
If u insist on changing to matar then by all means welcome to the family and look at these sweet ships: Rupture: along w the rax is simply a pvp badass Tempest: arguably best sniper due to high alpha and also a good close range ship w AC Typhoon: many say its crap but in reality its simply the fact that its a skil intensive ship, once u have them the this ship is great. No need to mention the Jaguar/wolf/vagabond/sleipnir etc etc etc...

thanks for the replies! my main problem with drones is that i just don't want to have to rely on them in any way. you can forget them somewhere or they'll be left behind if you've got to warp out quickly, they require too much attention (imho), you can't reload them in space,... i just think they're a bit difficult to handle for a noob like me but maybe i'll look into them later
my question now is, would it make sense to train for a thorax and fly that until i've got the matar cruiser skills or would that be useless if i'm currently not planning to increase my drone skills?
and another question, i'm thinking about putting two target disruptors on my vex, but the fact that i can hardly find any setups with those makes me wonder if they're effective? to me it sounds like a nice alternative to webber+ab

minmatar are good and i love em no question about it, although all aint perfect ;o) before making the switch, i would compair the ships (slots/abilitys etc) with what u actually want out of a ship. just my 2 isk anyway.
whine: wolf and muninn could do with some love, and ofc our cargobays are a joke considering how much ammo our guns eat through 1.39 rof and u drain it fast :O(
