How is this done? I have lost 5 frigates to this, I never make it to the 2nd gate.
I have tried it in a Kestrel, and a Merlin. Neither can make it to the 2nd gate.
This is the 2nd time I have had to cancel the mission and I take a Huge loss in standings when I cancel the mission, nothing else I can do, it is impossible for a 2 day old character. Yet the agent has given me this quest twice no less.
All I get when I ask in the rookie channel is to include more resists which is pretty silly, since I don't have the skills to do so, my cpu and power are far too limited at this point. I raised my engineering and electronics to 3 and still cannot fit any.
Why is such a hard mission handed to new players so early?

Edited by: Ricky Starwalker on 02/10/2006 04:57:36 I feel your pain, but it's do-able. The trick is not to fight in the first two rooms at all -- just afterburner to each gate.
For me, the first gate is the leftmost one -- Caldari Gate or some such. Flying my Rifter, I just hit the afterburners and make a beeline for it. I take a few hits, but nothing one or two shield boosts can't handle. Then in the second room, beeline to the (only) gate, which is the Research Gate. This time you take harder hits, but again it's feasible if you use afterburners. My speed is nothing amazing; 850 m/s or so. But that's enough for me to outrun the baddies.
In the third room, you do have to fight the closest enemies, but they're easy to take down. I just fight them, loot the Damaged Heron, try not to aggro anything else, and warp out. It's now my favorite level 1 mission, because it pays well, and it's relatively quick.

that's the way it's done. I've done it quite a few times now. Basically like this:
AB to the left gate. Warp thru. AB to research gate. Warp thru. Fight bad guys last area. Rescue Heron crew. Go home.
If you try to fight all the bad guys in the forst 2 rooms you will lose.

I just did this mission myself for the first time. The first area was a bit on the rough side, but nothing too horrible. After clearing the two gates I chose one of them and warped to the next area.
Nearly all the ships were on me in a matter of moments in the second area, and the shields on my frigate collapsed quickly. I made an emergency warp out, went back to the entrance gate while I fixed up my shields and tried again. This time I made a mad dash for the warpgate to the third area and managed to get my shields to hold until I got through.
The third area was really easy. Lots of ships, but they don't do much in the way of damage and go down very easily.
Fun mission, although I really wanted to try to figure out a way to take on that second area. Unfortunately, real life was intruding on my game time.

One way to kill all the bad guys - and the way I completed it after nearly losing a frigate - is to use an afterburner to move away from the gate, and out of range of the enemy. A few will follow you - pick them off when you're at a safe distance. Let your shield/armour etc recover. Move in until targetted by a few ships, then fly away from the gate, again. Pick these baddies off. Recover. Repeat this until all the bad guys have been destroyed.
It takes a while, but it worked for me.
P.S. I did the above in a destroyer rather than a frigate, but it should work for a frigate - probably better as you dart in and out faster.

Invite a few friends along to help you. Gang warp them to the mission waypoint, then start mopping up, make sure the toughest of your gang attacks first and jumps into the second area.
I can pull this off with 8 75mm Gatling Rails w/antimatter ammo, 400mm Rolled Tungsten Plate, 1mn AB II and some other goodies on my Catalyst all by my lonesome, quite fun actually.

It is possible in frigate, but much much easier in a destroyer, for 1m its worth it, i only had 3 150mm rail guns, and it was so easy.

As noted by others, the way to do WC is:
1. AB thru the second room. First room is killable. or 2. get friends or 3. T2-fitted ship.
I would recommend 1, as it is the simplest, easiest, and fastest way to make money. Did this mission with an incursus fitted with some cheap blasters, AB, shield booster, nanos, and about 200k sp to my name.

This is one of those missions that just sucks because you are restricted to the size of the craft.
I lost half a dozen frigates and a few destroyers.
I tried to AB it. Destroyed.
I have tried to fight... Destroyed.
I was on the Guristas gate (I have actually gone through the other gate on another mission, same set up, but much much easier.
The way I finally did this mission (about 6 times total) was to use a Damage Control module, T2 armor repair, and just go to town on as many as I could, as soon as I lost half my armor, I would warp out and then I would come back in. It is rough having 5 missile boats hit you at the same time.
Also, resists to kinetic will help.
The AB thing,, it is probably a good way to go.. but I never got past the wreckage to hit the other gate. Depends on how you play. (Sig Removed due to change in corp) |

Looks like that depending on your race, the rats are not the same but the scenario is similar. On the Gallente side, you have the serpentis gate which seems heavily garded but all the ships are something like 30km away from the gate and don't move, while the blood raider gate is garded by only 4 or 5 ships who approaches you immediatly after your first warp in the war zone. And the 2nd zone is much more harder on the blood raider side as you warp in the middle of a swarm of ships.
I completed this mission 2 times with a tristan (2xrailgun, 1xmissile launcher and 1xrocket launcher with kinetic damage,AB and shield booster, all tech I). AB to the serpentis gate, then AB to the 2nd gate and eventually destroy the 2 frigs that attack you, then destroy the small ships around the damaged ship and save the crew.
I also completed it a few times with a catalyst (4xrailgun, 2xpulse laser, AB and shield booster, all tech I). With this setup i could clean all the areas, but the blood raiders zone is really hard. You need to AB away from their ship's lasers immediatly after you warp in the zone. But their bounty is higher than the one of the serpentis, so it's worth the risk
Final advice to somebody wo would try to clean up all the area : first quickly save the people, bring them to base but don't speak to your agent and then go back to the war zone. This way, you'll get the reward even if you get destroyed

I did it first try nice and cheap in a Condor.
Highs: 2X Standard Missile Launchers w/Bloodclaws (against Guristas) 1X 125mm rail (I think, I ended up not using it anyway - I'd leave the slot open)
Mids: Named Shield Booster Named Kinetic Hardener
Low: Nanofiber
Capacitor used only for hardener and booster as needed. Fly through first area without engaging. Upon arrival at second area, fly away from enemies, only attacking those that give chase. Once pursuers are dead, plot a course to the gate that engages as few targets as possible. If I remember right, I only had to kill 3 more rats that were hovering near the gate. Once in the third area, again head straight away from the enemies and kill only those who engage you first. Once pursuers are dead, plot a course to the Heron. If there are rats guarding it, again just aggro those and fly away from them, pelting them with your missiles.

It's possible that you simply don't have sufficient skills for this one. Although it isn't difficult [follow the instructions for afterburning (new word) your way from the Cartel (important!) gate to the Research gate], you need some minimal equipment that you may not have the skills to install yet. Refuse it if you get it again before you're adequately skilled.

Don't get too discouraged, this kind of mission can happen at all levels. I was cruising through a long string of lvl 2 missions before I got the "Human Cattle" mission string. The first two (of five) weren't bad, then I lost three Cruisers (ouch) to the 3rd mission before I learned my lesson and quit the mission.
Now I'm still in a Cruiser (by choice), and can run through even Human Cattle while balancing my checkbook. I've moved on to lvl 3 missions, and am enjoying the challenge!
Refusing missions sucks, I know, but hopefully you don't get it offered to you too often. I hate it when you refuse a mission, and they offer it right back to you within the hour after you refused it. Grr ... that's a standing loss that you don't want to take.

This was the mission that posted about last week and it really has turned me off. I like a challenge and all but when you are still under 60k skill points it is a bit silly to be handed this mission. Obviously this mission belongs in level one but they should consider putting a further skill check in the script before giving it out. I know the skill check would not be perfect because you might be training all sorts of crazy and disjointed skills because you do not know what you are doing but it would be better than how it works now.

I lost two kestrels to this mission before giving up on it. In my n00bitude, I hadn't thought about simply fitting afterburners and running like hell to the gates.
If I'm offered it again, I'll take another run. Thanks to all who contributed solutions!

Well, CCP doesnt do alot of hand-holding in this game. There are no "skill checks" when missions get handed out. It is up to you ask questions of the more experienced players. I have been playing since January and have found the EVE community is always willing to lend some free advice; and even go so far as to accompany you on the mission as a sort of "walk-thru". Worlds Colllide is a hard mission only if you try to fight your way through it. I think it is designed as a test of your problem solving abilities in EVE. Not your combat worthiness.

Exactly! Finishing this mission as a newb is simply a matter of realizing that it's a RESCUE mission, not a KILL ALL mission. Then tank up, speedboost, and run like hell!! You can always come back later, after you have gained more SP, and kill the NPC's. There's an infinite supply of worlds collide missions, so you don't have to worry about not getting a second chance.
Personally I'm glad that they stuck an "easy disguised as a hard" mission in L1 without a skillcheck. Please stop expecting the developers to make sure everything is "level appropriate". It's not about the levels. It's about how you apply your "grey matter" to accomplish something, when it seems impossible to do so.

This must be the most mentioned mission. Just do a lot of running, kill the three pirates in the last section and get the crew from the Heron. Easy 100k plus the 100k bonus. The best level 1 mission by far.

In fairness, the mission statement does hint that you can forego fighting in the first two rooms. It says something about not fighting, anyway.
It's almost my favorite level 1 mission, hehe. :)

I did this one in a trial account with a merlin. I almost lost my kestrel, but warped out. I came back in a Merlin with 2 overdrives in low slots, shield tank and AB in mids, and 2 turrets, missiles in hi slots. I only shot at stuff that aggressed me first. I finished it OK.

Don't worry, my friend. When I started this mission, I quit playing Eve!
I got back to Eve a month ago, and got help from my friend, he brought 2 tech2 frigates along.
At one point, he goes 'oops' then he kills them all... his shield got a little lower than he liked. I see that this mission is meant to gang up, but still there would be big trouble and lots of casualities. Even if all the members had Tristan or Catalysts, it would be a tough fight!

The second room isnt an issue. As soon as you warp in just slam on the breaks, turn around and go back to full speed. You'll have 2 or 3 guys locking on to you. Fight them, no real issue here. After you beat them fly toward the next gate. These guys hit a bit harder. Just make sure your cap is full and that you have a shield booster and you should be fine.
All the other baddies will ignore you.
This is a really easy mission once you learn the viable lesson of controlling aggro as orbiting an enemy ship in this room will most likely get you killed. -------------------------------------- http://digitalsdomain.spaces.live.com/ |

Not really. It's perfectly soloable in a T1 Frigate with not particularly special gear (I still had a civ mod when I beat it) with the strats posted above; IE, run like hell.

I lost my first Rifter on this mission made me sad but i tried to fight my way through. a few days before i did this mission i found a deserted Burst in empty space so after i had my Rifter blown from under me, i went and got the Burst fitted it with 2 civ shield boosters a warp drive and some guns and went back
this was on my 4/5th day playing the trial
fought everyone at the starting gate did fine second gate RAN LIKE HELL! they blasted me to my hull at the stranded ship i was burning away but i would get close enough to a group of the enemy so they would target me and id run just enough so they'd chase me (maybe 3 at a time) and slowly killed them all off
yes i completed this mission in a Burst, so anyone can do it just be intelligent about it. the instructions say you dont have to fight everyone just chooses to try
yea I'm out here alone

As many others had said, the trick here unless your are very advanced in skills and have a super pimped frig is to simply not fight untill the last room. Some ships do this one better than others. I have done this one with a number of alts/accounts, and have found that a rifter is the easiest to get through. I once did this mission in an inquisitor with a three day old character, but was dammaged into structure by the time i got though the second gate. The armor repairer kicked in though and I cleared the last room. I have tried it several times in a kesteral and always died. If your caldari either use a condor for speed or a merlin tanked to hell and back.

You are unlucky to get WC twice so early and althoughthe advice above is excellent you are not going to know much about eve in 2 days nevermind your low SP.
I would suggest skipping it for at least a week until you have the skills for the modules mentioned above.
You can refuse a mission with no hit to your standing every 5 (i think) hours so I suggest you do this until you are happy to take it on.

Just a tip for all the new guys to Eve. What Loc suggest here is a good standard tactic for fighting npc rats. It's often refered to as 'Kiting' It's especially good against missile throwers, and if you use missiles as the end effect is that you expend the range of yours, and shorten the range of the npcs chasing you. For other weapons types it also has the benifit of cutting down transversal a lot, so you hit more often and tend to do more damage, though you also need to remember that the same will apply to you too, so the trick is to work out the effective range of what ever rat you are fighting and then make sure that your range is just a wee bit longer.
