No it doesn't.
I am in my movement phase:
I move my thrasher to your outer region guarded by 5 kamikaze frigs, and I'm moving three moas to your home region. Movement does not end your management phase. Once my Thrasher is at that outer region, he's in your frig's region, and combat has not yet started, so you cannot kamikaze me. I can play some cards from my hand still, or play an outer region, as it's still my management phase.
And since there are frigs in the same region as my thrasher, I can pay for its ability to destroy your frigs before you can kamikaze me.
Kamikaze can only take place at the beginning of a battle phrase, and they choose the order in which 'beginning of battle' effects go off. The Thrasher's ability is not limited to the battle phrase, the ship simply must be in the same region as an enemy scout or frig.
So no, it's not 100% identical timing.
100% identical. See the rulebook, p. 17 under Management Phase > Warp a ship. "If you warp a ship into an enemy controlled region, your ship has attacked that region and CANNOT execute any of its abilities, activate any of its commands, or warp again during this management phase." Therefore, when warping it into an enemy region, the first legal time for you to pay for the Thrasher's ability is the Begin Battle Step.
That is correct, Kamikaze and the ability of the Thrasher will both take place in the begin battle phase, due to the initiative of the attacking player he will place the effect of the Thrasher on the pile first. Not that it really matters, since you can still place the Kamikaze effect on the pile as well. Using the Kamikaze effect will remove the ship directly from the game, since you have to pay the cost to activate its abiliy (sacrificing it) which will result in less isk blown by the Thrasher controller, since most ships will be sacrificed before the Thrasher will have dealt enough damage to it.
The initial question was about Ambush and Thrasher though. ;)
