Encountered this yet again while making this character. Sure, I can turn off the effect in the creator to see how awkward it will look afterward, but that's not very inspirational. Let's give the feature new life and true purpose - allow the beauty of physically simulated hair to shine in our portraits.

While on one hand I would love to see this feature implemented, I feel like the physically simulated part is preventing CCP from rolling out more avatar gear. In the roundtable I remember them complaining a bit about weighting the different pieces. I'd be ok with them scrapping it entirely if it meant more content at some point. They haven't released a single hair variant that's been weighted since Incarna (the emo cut, Amarr halo, and Gallente... thing?).

It's not so much a feature or really an implementation.
Just a change to rendered portraits appear.

That's the thing, I guess. Beyond speculating, nobody really knows what's involved or why it doesn't already render in this way (server catches it in this way, just doesn't render it).
I'd like to see it changed, prior to more styles being implemented. Already enough awkward looking folks around with twisted or distorted hair. Don't want to make it even worse!

Signed, sealed, sent to the president. Wouldn't mind more long hairstyles, and I mean really long, at least waist length or longer. While we're at it, you should assign at least someone to fix some of many clipping issues, such as the 'Eternity' Suit Top going through your skin in several poses. And wouldn't mind free reign on hair color, give us a colour roulette please... With neon toggles and stuff.
But if you could just make the simulated hair happen in portraits, that'd be really swell in itself..

I honestly don't think making the render-step client-side is going to fix anything. Just look at one of the long-and-flowing hairstyles-it hovers over and around your imaginary shoulders. Or the OP's ponytails: they hover in character preview mode for me.
Maybe it's different with another video card? DX9 mode? Major Windows revision?

Yes, not being able to see the softened edges of the polygon mesh in the bangs would be good. I'd switch to short hair but I don't think I'd look as good. |

There's a setting in your client graphic settings to show/not show physically simulated hair & clothing.
I'm guessing you've turned yours off.

I spent a while at the stylist last night. It reminded me of this issue.
There was also a recent bug in the character creator whereby avatars would appear without hair, makeup, skin textures (i.e. freckles) or their tops after they rendered. I was kinda excited and wondered if it was Devs playing around with the render system possibly even to address this very issue.
Sadly it seems not.
