Edited by: Idiot Face on 26/10/2003 19:03:33 Edited by: Idiot Face on 26/10/2003 18:46:09 I decided that i would try to be a pirate instead of sitting and mining all day or camping at pirate spawns.
Reading the forums I've seen that people hate jump-in and gate campers (seems lame anyways) and 0.0 space is basically empty So, I tried a container ransom in a kestral frigate and this is what I get: (Guy in indy next to three containers)
Idiot Face > hey figter Idiot Face > im currently at war with cargo containers, so if you could pay me 200,000 isk i wont blow them up -no reply so i target him and fire (Fellow corp thorax arrives)
Idiot Face > haha crap Marcsen > congratu8lation (I warp away- 'yes being a cowrard')
Marcsen > you will get podded as soon as we find you Idiot Face > haha suck ya i deserve it im just trying to have some fun Marcsen > very funny ******* Marcsen > i bet you are somebodys alt Idiot Face > wow geez Marcsen > come and have a real fight Idiot Face > ok to show you im not a **** i will come to you and die like an idiot Marcsen > come to Belt 3-1 then (I warp to the belt)
Idiot Face > see isnt fun? you get to have a scrap now Idiot Face > and you will win and feel satisfied Idiot Face > and im not an *******, just trying to make the game more than just mining Marcsen > whats fun killing helpless Indys? Isnt it more fun to try to kill a cruiser? Idiot Face > i tried to ransom the cantainer but he didnt reply (My ship blows up from about a billion drones)
Idiot Face > hahaha sweet (He targets my pod and vaporizes it)
Idiot Face > yes thank you for podding me
---Yes I know that this was a lame attempt at pirating (but still fun as hell compared to alternatives) but seeing as I don't own a giant battleship and 0.0 is almost empty anyways, what would you have me do?

You have learned a valuble lesson. If you gate camp, people get mad and tell you to be a 'real' pirate. When you are a 'real' pirate, they whine even more.

People not liking you comes with the territory. Don't expect people to thank you for trying to blow them up. Once you accept that I'm sure piracy will become more fun for you. Personally I don't have to heart to "ruin" peoples virtual lives. I can do it just fine in an FPS or RTS but it seems people put too much of themselves into their eve life. I find much more joy in helping people than I do in hurting them.
You should get a cruiser and go back and waste that dude for picking on a frig. I bet he owned the indy anyway. ----------------------------------------- Sig rented by Drethen Nerevitas. |

Yes, go deep into claimed space with a couple of friends and attack mining crews there.

What did you expect? A pirate is a criminal and basicly takes other people's hard earned money and steals it. Your victims will be upset no matter how 'original' you are. If you then tease them and rub it in they are bound to get really angry at you.
The fact is that people hate pirates. It always boggles my mind how some players become pirates and are still suprised that other players get angry at them. It's a natural human reaction. No one likes people who benefit from the suffering of others.

I'm not suprised at all when people get angry, that's what makes it fun, and that's what happens when you try to pirate in a frigate alone.
I just don't get why people take it so personally when it's all part of the game - "game" being the key word. It's supposed to be fun. When I sat and mined I wish this would've happened to me, it would've made things interesing and exciting and given me a goal that when I got a better ship I would try to seek revenge on that person. I guess the point of the post is just to show that people are taking the game way too seriously and need to just loosen up a bit.
Last night I made a character and I took my starter ship and my Super Ultra Civilian Gatling Autocannon and I engaged in heated combat with the paintjob of an indy mining. Concord came and I went kablamo, but if anything I got a few laughs.
What we need is a gamewide revolution of fun and happiness where in all can frolic in the sunny fields of joy and laughter.
Thats I guess what I'm just trying to say, sorry if you thought I was complaining. _______________________________________________ "HARRY!! YOUR HANDS ARE FREEZING!!" -Lloyd Christmas |

You say a game is "supposed to be fun" yet you wonder why people take things personally when you interupt their idea of fun.
Hmm.
The mind boggles.

Idiot Face, if you were pirating in a frigate you were probably mining in a frigate or industrial most likely. To you it might seem fun to get blown up while mining, after all even a 300k frigate wont set you back that much. But when your in a very expensive ship with a lot of time invested in equipping it, its not nearly so fun to get blown up. Its a bit exciting if you get attacked and manage to get away, but given the choice most people would prefer to do what htey are doing in peace, and will be very upset if the stuff they worked so hard to get is stolen or blown to bits. Not everyone is like this of course...just most people.

Im no longer a pirate, but I used to be one of the most active member's of m0o (as Jade would say: "In the good old days").
Some tips: 1) Surprise/Confusion. Get people when they have 100 windows open, are AFK, are sleeping, are talking to you, are browsing a Ingame website you have suggested, are lagged out, are confused from 100 things in threat window. Preferably combine many of the above. Obviously don't exploit or anything :).
2) Hit and Run. This is the key to piracy, undoubtably there will be people better than you (or, even more likely, with more ships), Hit individuals, then run and hide.
3) To make a profit you need to be a) feared enough to be able to get money through threats or b) get lucky with loot drops. In a frigate you wont achieve a) so go with b).
The only way you can kill stuff fast in a Kestral is with cruise missles, so train these up and aim for launching loads of them at speed. If you are shooting people who are afk you wont need a warp disruptor, otherwise you definately will. If your targets are armed you are going to have to keep out of their range or alternatively get really close and orbit really fast with afterburners (so their guns can't track). Your first volley should be paradise cruise missles to kill shields, then devestators to pwn the armor and structure. Obviously all this has to occur either in 0.0 space or places without sentry guns in 0.1 - 0.4. In 0.5 and above you will not have time to kill and loot before you die. If you manage to kill an indy, you need to loot it, to do this, it is easiest to have an alt in an indy logged off in system who can come get the stuff. Another strategy that *can* be profitable is suicide runs on AFK miners in 1.0 systems. The key to this is using a ship scanner to find out what the Indys are fitted with. You are looking for Miner2s, Cu Vapours, Local Hull conversions, and rare Cargo space improvers. All of these can be sold for decent money on Trade channel. In your suicide run, you need to get VERY close to the indy before firing off your missles, otherwise the cops shoot down your missles. The idea is to fire off enough missles before the cops kill you. It is hard but possible. Then you bring in your alt to pick up the loot. This is very hard to get right so it is easier to stick to low sec.
Anyhow, despite what various moralising ass-farmers claim, Piracy certainly isnt a way to make good money, however it can be great fun and very satisfying (*fondly remembers first death threat...). If you can eventually afford a cruiser, go for a caldari Blackbird so you can equip EW equipment, then your aim will be to prevent the target warping out (Warp disruptor), Moving away (Webifier) or targetting you (Target disruptors, or sensor dampeners). Then you can demand all the money you want in exchange for not killing them. Watch out for their friends warping in tho.
Anyhow, hope that is useful

Yes, this is a good point, didn't think of that. But the game, to me at least, seems to be portrayed as a "Gain power by any means necessary" type of game (at least thats what the box says) And people who want to just mine in peace shouldn't be in lower sec. space without an escort and the realization that there is the risk that they could be attacked and possibly killed, after all npc pirates fire on anything and everything, and I dont just start shooting people for no reason I first try to bargain for money, and if they don't then I shoot.
But yes you're right, some peoples idea of fun is different than mine.

Probably the single most entertaining case of piracy I have ever seen. Good work Mr. Face, stick with it.
For the record, I would have let you go based on your honesty (and hilarity).

Hehe, nice try Face.
All I can suggest is to try and stay ahead of the "prey". Never stoop to fighting "on even ground" if you can avoid it. Typically you'll be out numbered or out equipped than your armed adversary. If anything, you'll be out experienced, all bad things.
They might call you a coward. But risk assessment is part of the ideal.
That and try to be honorable, like you were. But unfortunately, not everone will want to roleplay.

I think my adventures early on were a bit more entertaining. When I first started playing, I was in Algogille running around not doing much of anything, trying to buy low, sell high and avoid mining at all costs. One day I had insomnia, and the market was being unfriendly that day. I decided to take my frustration out on a couple of miners who decided to be rude to me. I siddled up next to the group of miners, targetted the roid they were mining and proceeded to open fire. I sat there and fired my civilian blaster at that roid for about 3 hours straight. Eventually one of them pulled out a cruiser and took pot shots, but I warped out and immediately returned. Of course, while they were being chased around the system by Concorde, I went back to blasting the rock. Right next to several Concorde sargeants. Eventually they asked me to join their corporation.

ROFL, hats off to you Idiot Face. I al most wet myself laughing. That has got to be the funniest post I have ever read.
Got no real advice for you tho as I'm not a pirate. But instead of picking on players until you have the skills and equipment. Why not try hitting convoys instead. ------------------------------------------------ The sky is not the limit. Your only limited by your mind... |

I might have a few tips for you to help with non lame pirating.
Firstly fly into a few systems in your region and bookmark all the belts. Also bookmark secure containers and take note of their names (ie <IAI>). Store the bookmarks in appropriate folders. Fly from the sun to a moon and bookmark halfway as a safe location when you get hunted.
Use your map to locate pilots in space in those systems. Jump in, open your bookmarks for this system. If the person(s) in system has a ticker that matches a container bookmark, warp to that container and conduct some business. If not then proceed to warp to each bookmarked roid belt and search.
I use drones for killing but if your in a frigate then try close range guns because you have to warp scramble. But you really need a cruiser, I like a thorax for 8 heavy drones.
Always warp scramble with drones inside bay if you want to extort.
Be polite and nice to your clients and be prepared for some serious complaining after removing them from their ship. Be understanding and sympathetic.
Its a lot of work though but can be rewarding in fun factor.
Its a good idea not to attack very large corps members, battleships hurt .

train up cruise missiles, do agent missions so you get an aganet that can fix your security status.
Try to join a corporation such as mercenary frigates ( or cruisers),Biomass or 10k cruisaders. Cant remember the others.

Attack everything you see. You will undoubtedly sustain heavy ship losses, but you will learn ship capabilities better than anyone else in the game that is too afraid to take pvp risks for fear of losing their ships. Just make sure you get insurance and don't waste your time with other-than-standard equipment. _________________ "For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack."

Nice post! I'm not a pirate but I really think that 'privateers' perform an essential function of the game! Yes I might moan when I get blown to pieces for refusing to pay but hey, this isnĘt sim city!
Keep the comedic piracy coming; IĘd probably have given you some cash just for the laugh!
