Several paths available.
Easiest has got to be BS/HAC/Command ship. Runs through missions really, really fast.
Then there's BC. This is probably the most common.
Thirdly, you could use assault frigates. I take my Retribution into all missions save Mordu's and Angel Extrav. The first because of the massive amount of damage and the second because angels just lawl at me with EM/Therm.
Finally, and hardest, there's doing it with cruisers. I can and have done most of the L3s with a Maller (I was bored), but it's slow going and pretty hard. Requires very high skillpoints.

Lojik, Brutix can run all level 3 missions with no problem
You don't need T2 ships to run them, nor T2 drones and guns
Some people here have forgotten what it was like to be a new player with a very tight budget 
the only T2 gear that is highly recommended is the Medium Armor Rep, because you capitalize your ship's bonus. you should also consider getting the BC skill to 4
other than that and depending on your cap skills, 4 named cap rechargers should be enough to tank the missions, in tandem with active hardeners
put 5 med drones to your bay and you're good to go
Just remember that a BC is still a cruiser and cannot tank as well as a BS. So you have to be careful with aggro.

I use a dominix with 250mm rails. My drones do more dps usually.
Does anyone know how to get my name capitalized? |

That's normal . Domi gives bonus to drones and Large Hybrids.

I can run almost every lvl 3 mission in my Brutix.
High
5 * 250mm Prototype Gauss
2 * 150mm Prototype Gauss (for the friggies)
Mid
1 * T2 Afterburner
3 * F-B10 Nominal Cap Regenerator
Low
1 * Emergency Damage Control
1 * T2 Medium Armor Rep
1 * T2 Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane
2 * Specific Armor Hardner.
Also i switch drones every mission for optimal damage.
