Edited by: Lojik on 06/10/2006 21:07:38 I'm running mish's for Angel Cartel in o.o and doing quality lvl 20 lvl3's and getting absolutly wooped in my vexor, any idea's what i should try next was thinking about a Brutix with rails, dual repper tank and Cap booster, or should i train up for BS's and get the domi out there ?
Thnx

p.s i dont have very high gunnery skills, i'm more drone orientated.

Ishkur with T2 drones will pwn most level 3s, and do it pretty quickly.

I'm only standing on 6Mil sp atm and HAC's or any T2 Ship is a bit out of range for me atm. So a Brutix with Rails and Dual repper tank should be fin to handle most high quality lvl 3's ?

Brutix with single T2 repper tank, active hardeners, and some cap rechargers (or a battery, which I use) does nicely. I think with a cap booster you'll probably end up spending far too much on booster charges.
I'd not done missions for ages until this evening, but as I remember most of the missions can be done with 2x EANM 2x mag stab +repper in lows. Some of them need a full set of the correct active hardeners, like Downing the Slavers 2/2, one of the Mordus ones (deadspace full of stupidly large number of cruisers), Extravaganzas, Spy Stash, Portal to War.

Listen to the lady. This is your ticket for the level threes. Look at the bonus on the Brutix and you see why you don't need double repper, just train battlecruiser to a reasonable level and use a T2 repper, even if you don't use T2 anything else. Its about the only reasonably priced T2 module anyway. I use different combinations of active and passive hardeners and EANM depending on the mission, for me always at least two actives and then depends on the mission what else you put. That Mordus Headhunter mission with the right tactic and two active kinetic hardeners almost becomes fun and very profitable. (Do it wrong and you lose the Brutix though.)

Dominix with 6 active hardeners, 1 LAR, 5 cap rechargers. Tank runs forever. In each room use a gun to aggro all groups, release drones, approach next gate, minimize window. When things get quiet maximize window and move to next room, repeat.

Ok got a setup think this will work?
5 x 250mm rails 2 x small tractor beam
4 x T2 cap recharger or best named
1 x T2 Medium Repper 3 x Active harders 1 x Named DC
Resists are 65/60/72/72 With my current skills
Everything except the tractors can be run indefinatly on quickfit cap simulation.

but tbh i dont know much about the brutix. i always loose them. and i mean ALWAYS.
but still... maybe you should get smaller(not small guns though) guns, some nos, and if you dont rely on drones, completely, as frig defense, you should get a web.

Well my drone skills are a HECK of alot higher than my gunnery i'm mainly gonna be using the Brutix for its tank and use the guns as an extra punch hopefully as reasnoble range before i need to use my Hammerhead II's for when they get close in. Thats why i'm prolly not gonna use a web.

My main is Gallente, but uses a passive tanked Ferox for missions - with the right skills it's easy mode.
The problem with using drones as a primary weapon for missions is the well-known drone aggro bug that affects some missions - i.e. release drones and the whole room aggros.
However, ignoring this, I would fit a dual-rep tank with 2x EANM II and a decent damage control, and on top of that mission-specific hardeners. The passive modules and the DCS are free resistance, and cap is always the main problem in missions in my experience.
Damage controls also have the useful side effects of giving you shield resistances (useful because it's a little bit longer before the armour gets hit) and giving you hull resistance, which may save your ship if things go really wrong. Buy the best one you can afford and/or find. I never undock without one.
However, I haven't used armour tanking ships in missions for a while, so my comments might be taken with a pinch of salt. ---------------------------------------------- "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent." ---------------------------------------------- |

Anyway, Lojik your setup's not bad but...4 T2 rechargers are you nuts? You know what that costs? Use some named ones, they work pretty well. And replace one of them with a webber maybe.
Two tractors you're being kind of greedy, and the loot isn't usually worth it - maybe you could use one? I use 5 250s and 2 150s to help the drones a bit on the frigs myself, and come back later with another ship to get the loot. But you can use a tractor if you want, i just dont see the need for two. I wouldn't bother with NOS for missions - we are talking about missions right? - I dont spend that much time that close and you dont want to with those guns.

I do all lvl3 missions with a Brutix with rails and t2 medium drones.
I even did a couple of lvl4 missions. The Serpentis spies comes to mind. The lvl4 drone missions I do without warp-out.
No crazy SP level either. At 2.3m atm. Mostly droneskills.

Edited by: Par''Gellen on 08/10/2006 00:51:25 I use a Dominix. People tell me it's overkill and I kind of agree (except for the Mordus mission) but I'm more interested in finishing them quickly. I've tried all kinds of ships but nothing can plow through level 3's faster than a Dominix with good drone skills (well, maybe a Raven but that's even more overkill than the Dominix). I guess it really boils down to how fast you want to go through them. ---

Edited by: G0rF on 10/10/2006 10:23:52 EDIT: It's a Brutix!
I also use 5 x 200mm rails with Iridium ammo, a Small Named Nosferatu and a Drone Link (for my 5 assorted Combat drones).
I have 2 Barton Cap chargers and an AB and a Named Target Painter.
I have the right hardeners fitted (check the wiki) for each mission and a T2 repper and 800mm Titanium Plates.
I have nearly 3 Mil SP's, mostly drones and gunnery with BC lvl4.
Everyone else says they can walk through lvl3 missions with this setup, so why then do I get my *ss handed to me so often?
Don't get me wrong, I can do all of the smaller ones, but there's one mission where I just get aggressed by shed-loads of NPCs all at once as soon as I warp-in and have to immediately warp-out again!
It's really frustrating.
Am I really just a plop-pilot? Should I just give up flying and run a station bar?

I used to use a Brutix. With two Barton rechargers and a Large cap battery you can pretty much run a Medium AR all through. I also used a 2nd MAR for tight spots. Damage control is always handy if things go badly wrong. throw on some guns and some specific resists and your offski.
That said, a domi gets the job done a lot quicker. I use:
6 250m rails T2AB, 2x Barton rechargers, tracking CPU, painter Named LAR, Damage control, 4x resists, Mag Votex stab. + Drones.

Use BS for lvl3 missions. YOu can use generic fitting maxing all resistanec and using only 1 repper on Dominix. Brutix is both, more risky and slower in missions. i have helped more that single player that wasnt able to complete harder lvl3 mission in his bruxis. BCs can do some lvl3, may be all . but you need a lot of skills and a lot of time. caldari BC is preferable, the Brutix can get into serious problems in lvl3 Mordus Headhunters or the old Portal To War 2/5 mission. . despite the many players suggesting its possible to solo lvl3 in Brutix, dont be surprised if you see you Brutix exploding. especially if you have low skills and cant use a BS.

thats absolutely normal. i know a player flying in 0.0 and doing lvl4 missions that got serious problems in lvl3 with Brutix. Ferox should be better than Brutix, but i doubt its as fast as a BS on lvl3

I did my first level 3's in a ferox with a passive tank, even though I switched to Gallante, but Caldari have an edge with low sp's since missles never miss.
If you don't have good gun skills, you are going to have issues with a brutix since your dps is going to be awful. Plus you will really need named guns for the damage multipliers and those are not cheap. I'd just hurry up and train for the dominix, which with low SP's is second only to a raven in NPCing.

Edited by: Galifardeua on 10/10/2006 22:25:41 I did level 3s in a Vexor, being really carefull, and with nice skills. Not wanting to train for BC (as my gunnery skills where ****) and having to help corpmates in level 4s I went to a Dominix.
If you armor tank with the dominix missions are almost too easy. I did the last ones passive shield-tanking just for fun (ok, I had to run once from the dammed Mordus hunters).
The setup I have for the dominix in level 3s is (an overkill):
highs: 4 250mm, 2 drone link augmentor medium: 1 AF, 4 capacitor rechargers lows: 2 lar, 5 hardeners (depending on mission) (everything tech II or best named if you can afford it, of course)
Drones: 5*warden (enemy farther than 35km) 5*garde (between 35km and 15 or so) 5*mediums and 5*light drones and some spares
Then, for level 4s, I just change 3 250mm for 3 heavy nosferatu, the other one for a small hybrid with manual fire (to call on aggro), and take out the AF and put another recharger (and gonna try heavy II instead of mediums).
For passive shield tanking just put large extenders in the mediums and shield rechargers and a DCU(? the suitcase) in the lows. I wanted to try hull tanking, but with only 13k hull I feel it would not be enough. Specially compared with the 11k shield I can get with passive tanking, 24 shield/second with no active module vs 17 hull/second with 5 LHR. GRRR
Possibly you'll have more fun in a Brutix, so, take care and win iskies!
Edit: of course I'm carebearing missions in empire, so that's a different leage.

As I said above, the only L3 I cant breeze through in an Ishkur is the Mordus Headhunters. Anyone saying L3 is difficult in a Brutix clearly has poor skills or a bad fitting. The guy above who has an 800 plate should drop it for another hardener. Reppers work better with hardeners, plates make them have to work harder. My Brutix has a T2 passive armour tank, but I have even dropped a hardner for a damage mod now cos I dont have any problems with the incoming damage in any L3.

Agreed. In my case:
All missions except Mordus Main: Megathron Highs 7x 425mm rails 1x heavy missle launcher (named) Mids 1 100MN AB 3 target painters (on some missions, swap one TP for webber) Lows LAR DCU 4x named mag field stabilizers 1 cap relay Depending on the mission and how much tank I expect to need, I sometimes replace one of the mag fields with a cap relay Drones: Depending on mission, either heavies or webifier drones, or a mix of the two.
Alt: Scythe Highs: Small remote armor repper or nothing Mids: 3x named tracking links. These are insane when combined with the Scythe's bonus to TL effectiveness, even though that bonus is slightly broken (3% instead of 3.5% as described in the ship description) Lows: 3x nanofibers - I don't have midslots to spare for an AB, so these need to be speed mods instead of cap relays
I plan on training the skills for a Scimitar on the Scythe, so it can provide better tracking support and shield boosting support too. Once I have a Scythe for support, I might consider the Rokh.
With the alt running tracking links, and the main using 425s with thorium ammo, I have an optimal of 77km and insane tracking speed. I can hit frigs reasonably well at 10k and more, especially if I send webifier drones at them. The only frigs I have trouble with are "close-in" interceptors, for those missions I usually use a mix of webber drones and heavies. 350s with the TLs have an optimal of around 56 with thorium and the ability to start hitting most frigs at 6-7km.
For Mordus, I swap the alt from a Scythe to an Exequeror running two medium Arup remote reppers, and I fit a tank on my main. I switch from 425s to Dual 250s for the improved tracking. My DPS goes way down, but in terms of tankage it's a cakewalk. ------------ Ezra Cornell pe0n, Calista Industries |
