I know it was a stupid thing to do, but I accepted a duel offer from a pirate last night. I could of taken him out at the gate I was at, but I was interested to see how this would work. Corp mates warned me beforehand, but i'm getting tired of killing NPCs. I accepted his gang invite, knowing I had at least a 50% chance of being ganked. Then we were off, but not to the "safespot" he had said we would do the duel at. My fear was realized when I saw another BS sitting right at the spot we warped in at. Now, I could of warped off at this point (It took them a few seconds to actually target me), but I decided to take it. I lock my opponent, and his friend locks me as well. Launch drones, fire guns/torps and activate nos. I was about halfway into his sheild when my lock dissapears. Turns out his friend was there just to ECM me. I re-locked a few times durring the fight, but it was not enough to do much. My cap eventually ran out, and my tank failed. Around three to five min after the fight started, my battleship was destroyed.
Now, I went into this system looking for a fight. When I was offered a chance to duel someone I had killrights for (I frequent the system a lot) I jumped at the chance. However, I am slightly saddened by the outcome. I expected something better then an ECM support ship waiting for me. I know that pirates are scum and underhanded, but I expected more out of this group (Actually, I should of known better. They did camp a gate with a Moros for two days straight.).
My question is, does anyone still fight a fair and honorable fight. I'm ok with people not, but it would help to know for future engagements.
(I'm also a small time pirate. I only have a few kills, but I am to increase that soon.)

I'll accept an arranged 1 v 1 only if it's on my terms. A lot of people don't like that, but that's their problem. I'm not taking the risk of getting ganked by thier friends, it's up to them if they want to take the risk of getting ganked by my friends or not (I'll always honour my 1 v 1's, but they don't know that). ---------------------------

Yes. I do.
I have yet to have someone dishonor a duel.
I even dueled Orc A once in a cruiser fight and he had nossed me to the point where I had no cap left and could not even scramble him. He didn't warp off, even as his tank failed and his armor crumbled while my shield held. That is honor, and to be honest, there are too few people left these days it seems who are willing to uphold their honor.
Perhaps I am too used to fighting alliances. Generally alliances care about their honor, and have policies of posting lossmails, honoring duels (or not accepting them to begin with), and not smacking. Many pirates and anti-pirates, on the other hand, are not so honorable.

Yes, sometimes I will 1v1 a pirate if they get go get a suitable ship (I usually fly assault frigs and sometimes intys.) Sometimes I get taken up on my offer and I haven't been betrayed yet. I don't hate pirates - I fight against them because it's fashionable to pirate and quite honestly most people are just horrible at it. I don't think a pirate is any less of a pilot if he doesn't agree to a 1v1, though, since the risk of getting gang ganked is really high. Those who cheat and dishonor them are scum though. -- Eh... 24k? I can't make a sig that doesn't suck and keep it under 24k. Oh well.

to the op please have your corp showin, and or dont post on a alt(i am not ingame so i cant check ,but ! means alt usualy).
the reason i say this, is because u didnt do a name and shame (which you should have), and this usualy brings alot of flames from nub bears.
so to state it again
name and shame who were the 2 players and what corp.

I will honor my word regarding just about anything in game. If I say I'll go 1v1 (which is exceedingly rare), it will be 1v1 and if someone dishonors that on my side, I will engage them (my corpmates wouldn't anyway).

The only condition wherein I *might* 1-v-1 is if I have a gang nearby and ready to come to my aid if the person offering the 1-v-1 proves false. Most 1-v-1's these days are just attempts by one of the parties to gank the naive bastard who accepted the duel. -Wrayeth

I pre-arranged dates for 1 v 1s to make sure they are fair...
but then the other person never shows up. later on I usually hear that she told her friends she thought I was creepy.

I do not really duel, if i see a target i go after it whether i am with a group or not. If my team jumps in and kills it with me, fine.

No, I don't like duels.
Hunting and finding my targets is most of the fun. If I know where they wait for me, that fun is simply not there.

If someone asks for a 1v1, I honor it. I expect them to do the same. If I jump someone in a belt, on the other hand, I more than expect them to warp in friends. Makes it all the more fun ---

Well being in a solo corp I usually am forced to 1v1
But I guess you mean arranged 1v1's , I've had a few myself and generally win , only had one unfortunate incident where it's not been honoured by the other side , he was an anti-pirate too , what can I say ? , I tend to go for 1v1's on the spur of the moment , when someone asks you for a 1v1 and then says gimme 10mins , means he's usually fitting just to counter you in every way so I turn that stuff down , anyway - it's the unarranged that tends to turn out to be the most fun .

i have had many 1v1's and never been betrayed mainly because i only do it when i have backup in system or they are in a corp with a good name. any unknown corp with friends in system and just me, i don't accept usually. i remember my last 1v1. 2 fleets in system at war with each other, both aligned to the planet the 1v1 was at both expecting each other to betray the 1v1 and warp in, but it didn't happen and it was great fun. Best thing is to learn your corporations and only do it if u can afford to lsoe the ship. but to answer ur question, yes 1v1's definately still exist.

Was a solo pirate for pretty much 5 months of my eve life so all i did was solo 1 vs 1's :), i prefered the cruiser vs cruiser battles made the fight much more interesting and sometimes a real challange.

Alliances are no different from corporations, most of the time. They may even smack more (unless they have someone to tell them to shut up) duels? they don't honor them Lossmails? Some don't ever post them. Most -10 pirates in my experience are quite trustworthy, it's the ones that are -1 to -4.9 that you have to watch out for.

i VERY rarley accept 1on1's anymore.
i used to, but getting ganked kind of ruins the idea.
if its well set up with about even freinds/enemies in local i'm much more likely to take it seriously.
i smacked someone to the point of almost geting a 1on1 last night.
if he hadn't had 20 odd friends in local i might have even accepted it. ------------------------ Listed as Such, I claim nothing but existense. know me true -Vily |
