Do they fire automatically at any target that locks on ?
If you are being scrambled would they still fire ?

They fire at anyone who initates (or continues) aggression towards you, if they are within range (FoF missiles have rather short range).
Thus, targeting isn't enough. They must be firing on you or attacking you in some way. But you will still fire if target jammed, since they do not require targeting. ------------------------------------------- "My main griveance with the Caldari state was that once I had finished my work for them, they wanted me dead."

Ok, I went out let 3 NPC's attack me for a minute and nothing happened.
The FOF missiles sat there and watched.

They don't fire automatically, you have to fire them yourself.
This should have occured to you after a long time of nothing happening, why not try to press fire manually ..
But they wount fire if there are no agressive action against you ("missile have no suitable targets within range") or similar message..

Edited by: Barl Rathbone on 30/10/2003 14:19:00 Yeah I did figure that out :) Someone said they fired automatically which is why I tested it.
Whats the point of them over missiles then ?
The only thing I see is I wouldnt need to target lock - is this correct ?
How do Defender missiles work, do you have to fire them as well ?

Yes, you need to fire defenders as well. FoFs are very nice with 4+ launchers in PvP, since you might just get jammed. I always carry 50-100 FoF cruise missiles with me.

Heh, you need to manually initiate any weapons exchange.
The advantage to FoF is primarily in PvP, if you are target jammed (cannot lock your enemies), you will still have an offensive capability. FoF missles dont require a target lock on your part. Thus if some baddie is pounding away on you while you are target jammed, you can launch some FoF to try to take him out.
Defenders are anti-missle missles, you launch one or more when you have an incoming missle, and if you time it right, it'll intercept the inbound hostile missle.
Hope this helps. Unban Lord Zap and Reverend |

Be careful using them in NPC fighting, I have had a few turn around and splash me if their target died while in flight.
Bad part is that I had drones out, all of which decided that since I had initiated aggression against myself, I was a threat to myself and I should be killed to save me from my own horrible piratical tendencies.

Not to mention: FoF's running after cargocontainers behind u even if the enemy is close than the container.
Hunting your friends down even though they haven't attacked u
Destroying each other.
They are about as reliable as cheap fireworks

I notice that FoFs like to chase cans. I wonder what happens if the target drops a cargo container as a decoy.

so... the FoF's will actually target you if you take out your own drones from splash? or is this just how it seemed?
